Abraham Murdock left his home of Sheridan Arkansas at seventeen to start a merc career that spanned almost 50 years, working for dozens of companies, killing aliens and getting paid across the galaxy.
Near the end of his career, he landed a gig with Cartwright’s Cavaliers. The storied Four Horsemen unit was just coming back from near catastrophe, and the battle-proven Murdock was an ideal choice for their top sergeant. It would have been a perfect last contract, but then his dropship was destroyed in the Chimsa system, killing the flight crew and him.
Or did it?
Nobody was more surprised than Murdock when he found himself alive. After weeks of surviving in a failing CASPer, floating in space amid the ruins of dead starships, he was rescued by an alien salvage crew.
Deciding retirement was the right call, he headed to Valais, a beautiful aquatic paradise not unlike the South Pacific on Earth. Warm sun, sandy beaches—peace and quiet. That is, until the alien mercs arrived, and he suddenly found himself back in his old trade, and up to his ass in the Omega War. What good is a 70 year old merc in a star-spanning war?
Never trust an old man in a career where most die young. Murdock isn’t quite done…yet.

His favorite is military science fiction. However, he also pens Zombie Apocalypse (ZA) in the form of his 2016 Dragon Finalist "A Time to Die", book 1 in the Turning Point series. The series is complete and available on Amazon, continuing with Book 2, "A Time to Run", and finishing with "A Time to Live", released earlier this year.
His most successful works to date can be found in the Four Horsemen Universe (4HU), which he created and now shares with a slew of incredible authors including his partner and publisher, Chris Kennedy. The first book in the series, Cartwright's Cavaliers, was his 2nd Dragon Award Finalist in 2017. In the 4HU, nine books were published in 2017, and 20 (yes twenty) more released in 2018. Among those was A Fiery Sunset, coauthored with Chris Kennedy, it was his 3rd Dragon Award finalist. Since then the series has continued to expand and branch out, including a YA series (Black and White). If you love Military Sci-fi, this is the series for you, with well over 50 books and more coming every month!

In a profession where most die young and fast, beware of those who live to a "ripe retirement age". They aren't nice. They don't stick to, silly notions like, "Fair Fights" and the like. They fight very nasty unless ordered NOT to. Murdoch is this distilled, leveraging everything in his disposal to actually do the, "right things". And you'll be rooting for the man and agreeing with pretty much everything he does. He's very much a hero...and the legend implied in the story...but be on the wrong side of him and you won't live very long...and it might be very, very painful in the ending.
Like the blurb says...old mercs don't die...YOU do...
What're you waiting for? Go buy it and find out a bit about the man...it's worth the time to read and is very much likely to be one of your favorite people from the 4HU right on up there with Alexis. I know I want to see more out of the character after this story.
When he cannot get that bureaucratic nightmare squared away, he decides to move on to his chosen retirement retreat to enjoy the remaining years of his death in peace and quiet.
If only the universe would allow that.....
Excellent old soldier character, surrounded by interesting folks. Murdock is the R. Lee Ermery of the 4 Horseman Universe, the archetype of the veteran NCO. Ride along with him as he proves that old does not mean you're done and that being rich in experience is a wealth that is of great value.
