Roxy, the heroine, was the issue of a sexual liaison between her drug-addicted mother and a wealthy ranch owner. She spent her growing up years wishing for her father to love her enough to remove her from a terrible situation. Her mother was a whore who sold herself to get money for drugs with Roxy only an afterthought if she thought of her at all. After her father dies, she finds out that he kept track of her during her life and left her a 50% controlling share of his ranch if she lived there for five years and assisted her step-brother in the raising of her step-sister during that time. The book is about how she came to terms with being raised in a brothel and having the flashy beauty of a prostitute and having people assume she was a whore just because of where she was raised and how she looked. She falls in love with her step-brother but is disappointed because she feels like he's like all the other males she has ever come in contact with. He judged her without really knowing her. But it's all resolved with a happy ending or I wouldn't have even begun to read it. I read for relaxation and escapism so I always look for a happy resolution in a book. Like all of Jennifer Ryan's books, this one was a great read. Can't wait for the 2nd book in the trilogy. Wish it were being issued sooner! P.S. I do hate the way a faithful reader pre-orders a book for regular price and then as soon as it is released, the book is put on sale for a much lower price. I feel cheated. I pre-ordered the book for $6.99 and now it is being sold for $1.99. I am thinking seriously in not pre-ordering anymore since there is really no advantage to it.

I really enjoyed the first installment of this new series by Jennifer Ryan.

Noah Cordero has just lost his step-father. He has spent his whole life preparing to take over the family ranch but his plans are side tracked when he learns that half of the ranch has been left to a woman he has never heard of let alone met.

Roxy Cordero grew up on the Wild Rose Ranch, a brothel where her mother works. At the reading of her estranged father's will she learns that she has inherited half of her father's ranch and has become guardian of her half-sister, but with stipulations. He has also left to her the Wild Rose Ranch.

Can Noah put aside his resentment and make this partnership work? What happens when Roxy and Noah begin to act on the relationship that is developing between the two of them?

This was a decent enough story, but I was just hoping for a bit more from it. The characters had some depth to them, though Roxy got on my nerves from time to time. I'll even admit her reactions were very understandable, given her history, but for a romance story I still found her overly prickly and combative. If this were a different genre that might have worked better.

The plot was nothing interesting or exciting. I could have better accepted Roxy's prickliness if there was a more interesting plot driving this, but this book had a pretty standard enemies to lovers storyline.

I read the whole thing, but it's not enough to make me interested in reading book 2.

I just re read this book and I still loved it. I still cried over everything Roxy went through and loved how fierce she was. I cried when Noah hurt her when she opened up to him. I felt for her as her Dad never claimed her but took on Noah and Annabelle as his children. But thankfully there’s a very happy ever after. I loved every book this author writes and I often re read her book. I highly recommend this book.

Call me a prude if you want to. I prefer to think that I care about women and their place in the world, their self esteem and abilities.
The heroines in this series were raised by mothers who worked at a whore house. While the heroines were innocent victims in this , there seems to be a bit of glamour associated to what is a sad way for a woman to make a living.

Roxy looked the part of a hooker but had the morals and guts to be what she wanted to be. Well educated, a business woman and a truly caring person.

This is the story of strong women who had to raise themselves because their selfish mothers wouldn’t give them anything. I enjoyed the relationships between the ‘sisters who weren’t related by blood’, the brother and sister who were not only not related by blood but who weren’t the children of the father who raised them. I loved the ranch and the family the people who lived there formed by choice. As problems arose, the feelings and even the misunderstanding bring love and comfort and security. Well written.

Roxy is a very interesting woman who came out of a childhood that could ruin a little girl but helped make her someone who cared deeply for others and gave of herself to help others have a better life. Filled with some great characters and an ever evolving plot, I couldn't stop reading. This is a great beginning to a new series for me and I look forward to more about the "sisters" of the Wild Rose Ranch.
