If you like sweet romantic second chance novels, this one is for you. There was a lot of emotional baggage that both of the characters had to workthrough but in the end...spoiler alert...they get it. Loved how it all played out.

I absolutely loved this story and once I started, I genuinely couldn't put it down. I devoured it in a few hours.

Even though Maggie feels rejected and is struggling desperately for a break between the suffocating demands of her dad and her "real life", she completely fails to see the answer when she goes to the middle of nowhere, strictly for business, she thinks.

I understood her longing for real, lasting peace and not being able to find it amidst her current crazy. I also found the story of how she originally met and married Finn super cute and funny.

It was really interesting the contrast between Finn and his family, as well as his potential, and the coldness of Maggie's family but her pursuits of her dreams. I also loved the surprise ending and how satisfactory it was to the rest of the story and buildup.

I'll admit one complaint is that it felt like when Maggie and Finn finally officially rekindled, it could have happened a bit sooner or more dramatically... like maybe more heated kisses beforehand or something building more tension.

But overall I loved the story and felt it was well done. If you like modern romance... or really any romance with opposites attract, this one is worth getting.

I was confused in the opening chapter, when Maggie stated something like “this was the second man who’d walked away from me in the last 24 hours”… and then went on to show Maggie walking into Finn’s workshop. Finn comes across as swaggering in that interaction, but almost immediately vows to convince Maggie to stay married—and to stay in Maine instead of returning to California. A couple chapters later it’s confusing again; we get the internal dialogue that he purposely missed the divorce-paper-signing meeting, and yet he gives Maggie the excuse that his sister needed him (if so, the author should have written that scene). Then there’s the family baseball scene where Finn drinks too much, embarrasses Maggie and then acts very immature. We get the point that Maggie’s dad is overbearing and her engagement was more of a business transaction, but beyond that we get no details about Maggie’s now-ex. Then finally, a semi-interesting scene at a cancer treatment center causes Finn to get mature and insist he can’t hold Maggie back from her “destiny”… at which point she returns to CA and somehow completes the task she’d been focused on before seeking the divorce (no details given on HOW, since she apparently no longer has the support of her family and ex). Finn hides out in his workshop and licks his wounds like a teenager until his sister gives him a kick in the pants and we get the ‘grand gesture.’ All in all, an OK but not very compelling story (for me).

Note I do know the author, but I bought this book on my own, this review is my own.

You should see my messages to Melissa while reading this book. Without even finishing it I told her that I wanted the next one and that it was so adorable.

This book is written at a nice fast pace, you could tell that the characters had a love at first site type of meeting. Then of course someone gets in the way and they have to overcome it. I was so glad when the main character finally stood up to her family. I cannot wait until the next book in this series.

I loved this second chance love story. The author jumped right into the meat of the story, with occasional scenes from their past days in Vegas, when they were young, full of fun & laughter. Now Maggie & Finn have big responsibilities, live on separate sides of the country, and when they find out they are still married there are all kinds of twists. This happens to be my favorite genre when reading contemporary romances and I am all for more of the same.
