One of the best films you've probably never heard of
Verified purchase
In my opinion this film is excellent and well done in every way in every way. My wife and i have seen it at least three times over the years and enjoyed it every time. Great story brought to life by great actors and people behind the camera. Sorry, no explosions, fights, explicit sex scenes, nor raw language, but has humor, is touching, draws you into the story quickly, and reminds you that Marlon Brando and Johnny Depp can brilliantly handle scripts that would confound most actors. My wife normally dislikes films that wander into fantasy and aren't strictly realistic - she loved this film from beginning to end.

25th Anniversary of Don Juan Demarco!
Verified purchase
In 1995, I went to see the film Don Juan Demarco, because I myself was having similar thoughts.
However, the therapist I was seeing at that time was reluctant to be seen with me in public.
He told me to just keep mum that he had even seen me with his wife, who was also a very talented lady!
During that time I was about to graduate from Eastern Michigan University with a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics/Statistics with a 2nd major in Psychology.
However, I had made a mistake during a prestigious Marathi Youth Convention in Cincinnati, which had cost me the respect of a very attractive soon-to-be doctor, in Fullerton, California.
I thought that simply having a charming Personality is enough to draw me to any woman in the World!
I was totally wrong-
Since my own elder brother's wedding in 2004, my parents have been to at least 15 or more Engagement parties, Receptions!
Nobody in my Indian Community ever told me to just be' myself'
However, the Psychiatrist in this film, who was played by Legendary actor Marlon Brando, did just that!
Soon, the character of Don Juan Demarco, also played by a talented actor in Johnny Depp, did just the same thing!

Alas, he was set free to go home, even without any Medication!

Order multi media 4 times each time I get Blue ray instead
Verified purchase
I have ordered this four times. I ordered multi media and continue to get blue ray disc only. That might be acceptable IF ANY OF THE BLUE RAY DISCS I RECEIVED HAD SOUND. If I wanted to watch a movie with only subtitles, I'd go to a silent film festival. Other blue ray disc's I own play with sound so it's not my players.

There is a problem not only with the quality of your blue ray discs on this item there is also a PROBLEM with AMAZON'S WEBSITE. Even if I order Multi Media it still appears as if I'm asking for blue ray. Go to the website pull up Don Juan De Marco starring Johnny Depp and you get a variety of media options. When you select MULTI MEDIA IT STILL LOOKS LIKE YOU'VE SELECTED BLUE RAY! I don't want blue ray. I I WANT MULTI MEDIA! And I want a media THAT HAS SOUND!

You are never too old for romance. This is not all fluff, though, some good teaching in this story.

You won't be sorry you watched this. This is a older movie, but the theme, story is classic teaching at it's best. I would think that many a couple might heed the advice in this movie. You are never too old for romance.
This is a unique story though, and brings up a lot of questions about people with "psychosis," and although it's hollywood, and doesn't show the emotional turmoil that most people go through while delusional, it does it's job in the way only fiction can, to educate us and ask the questions in the back of our minds.
Don't we all know certain people, perhaps even a character in our own psyches, that their beliefs or actions may be considered crazy by other people's standards, that actually carry in them, or with their words or actions, a truth that is not easily embraced by a mainstream culture who has at least partially lost it's values, or ability to see the importance of the finer things in life, romance, romantic love and poetry, etc, in the pursuit of making a living, or rising up the ladder. Johnny Depp of course if perfect for this, and believable. Well cast all around.
It's drama, comedy, psychology, mythology, and theatre and poetry in many places.

Falling in Love Again
Verified purchase
My husband and I - about 60 and 65 stopped in to see a movie one afternoon at a small neighborhood theater. We had missed the beginning of the movie we wanted to see but the usher suggested we see Don Juan de Marco. It sounded like a swashbuckle movie to me but it would be fun for my husband - after all it was only 2 hours and I could rest and nap if it was not a good movie.

I have never forgotten this movie. I was never a Brando fan and knew nothing of Johnny Depp - at all - but before the movie was over I was totally in love with Brando and Depp. Truly Brando was closer to my age so I settled for him. This has been our favorite love story movie ever. We loved it. The theater was not full but the people there, weekday afternoon, were all older people and they felt the same way! There was a Standing O when the movie closed.

All the older people were leaving at once with wonderful smiles on their faces. We all had fallen very much in love again and went home for a little nap.

Don't miss this. I am 80 now and still love to watch this movie. Marlon is gone and so is my husband. Johnny is too young for me but I have wonderful memories and now I own the movie. If you buy it and don't like it - well, it isn't going to happen.

fantasy comes to life
Verified purchase
One of the most romantic films ever! At first glance , most would describe this story as a romantic fluff piece, but not after watching it.
The performances are stellar. Johnny Depp leaves one wondering just who has the mental illness, Don Juan Demarco, or the rest of the world. His view of life and love is magical, and one is captivated by the beauty and by the simplicity of it all. Any man who would dismiss this story as just a Chick-Flick needs to open his mind and learn how to "truly love a woman". What an impact on male-female relationships that would have! Marlon Brando has captured so well the transformation of the stodgy, aging counselor who learns so much from his patient that his own life is changed for the better. Faye Dunaway touches us with her portrayal of the wife who still loves her husband after all these years, but is still vaguely unhappy in a way that she doesn't quite understand - or feel that she should be feeling. She responds to her husband's renewed ardor for life and for their marriage in a way that she too is captivated by the spell cast by Don Juan Demarco. The music accompanies the story so beautifully that the songs simply will not leave one's mind after one leaves the theater. This film shows that romance can sweep up those who aren't young "hotties" !!

Dull, Boring , Plain Stupid... Puts you to sleep...

Just couldn't find anything redeeming about this movie. If you had a chance to see the best movie with any of the three main actors - then you would see this had to be their collective worst. All three of the principal characters have had much (much) better box office draws than this ridiculous movie. Save your money - pick another blockbuster (not this flop).

Very underrated film

This film explores love and attraction in ways rarely plumbed in mainstream cinema. The Johnny Depp's Don Juan is more than just a hit-on artist with a Spanish accent...although it certainly looks that way on the surface. He gives his "conquests" (as he also calls them) the honor and respect any woman deserves for all the care they put into their beauty. Their clothes, hair, makeup are all cherished like one would cherish an amazing wildflower, or a spectacular sunset. And he does this with such conviction that to men who are open (which is only Marlon Brando's character in this case) it's also contagious. Brando does a great job portraying a character who must maintain the rational perspective of a psychiatrist, but who is also a man - a husband - complete with his own needs and regrets.

Every woman with a significant man in their lives who doesn't "get" women, should watch this film with their man. Warning: It will be equally likely to spawn an argument as a terrific love-making session, but in the end it will hopefully create more understanding and connection. And that's all Don Juan really wants.
