Mary Burton loves writing suspense, researching law enforcement and forensic procedures, morning walks, baking, books, and tiny dachshunds. She also enjoys hunting down serial killers, which she does in her New York Times and USA Today bestselling novels of suspense and romance. Library Journal has compared her work to that of Lisa Jackson and Lisa Gardner, and Fresh Fiction likened her writing to that of James Patterson.

Mary is routinely featured among the top twenty writers in Amazon’s Author Rankings for romantic suspense, and her recent novel The Last Move claimed the number ten fiction slot in the Kindle eBooks Store.

Research is a favorite part of Mary’s day. She never tires of learning more about police work, evidence collection and analysis. She’s known for taking a hands-on approach, whether it means interviews with professionals in the field, forensic seminars or lessons at the firing range.

A Richmond native, Mary has lived there for most of her life. She is a graduate of Virginia’s Hollins University and worked in marketing before she began writing full time. I never could get a feel for what they looked like and I’m always amazed when authors don’t give you much in this area. I enjoyed the story and have read most of Mary Burton's books but I didn't enjoy the main character of this book.
Detective Poe, while a strong protagonist, often was written with an ego that put the other characters in jeopardy for no reason. As I was reading, I was at times, hopeful that she would not succeed and began to resent her.
The overall story line was good and had me guessing until the end. If I come across another book with this character, I will probably find it difficult to read.

I was a fan of Burton. I have enjoyed some of her books, however it gets boring after awhile. There is ALWAYS a sex scene and it's flat. There is ALWAYS a romance which now cliche.
If it wasn't for the romance and sex...this would be a 5 star book easy peasy. The killer in the book was unexpected because I thought it was someone else. The love thing didn't fit because the characters were total opposites. The drama was good though. The mystery was good. The characters were thought out. It could have been perfect. If only.

I liked the fact with this story the protagonist cop on the case was made to deal with issues that was beyond her control and showed a side of having help when faced with a disability that impaired how she functioned in her job. It showed that no matter what with sheer determination you can achieve your goal even when it's against a psychopath that's intent on destroying you. I did however feel that the sex scene which wasn't overly described thankfully was just sort of shoved in our of nowhere even though you could feel something bubbling between the two main characters. I felt the bok didn't gain from it and was a bit unnecessary to the plot.
