I watched some YouTube videos in my hotel room to prep me for the job.
When I took my door apart I only had one broken end.
I will be keeping the other 3 for possible future use.
I opened up the 4 pack and selected the correct one for my need. (there are 3 of one style and a 4th different style in the package.
The part is made to fit the factory cable end once you remove the old sheath/end completely.
The factory used some tooling to knurl the last half inch or so of the cable to help it grip the original plastic outer sheath. That little bit of extra diameter made the aluminum end hard to get on all the way. I used a screwdriver and gave a sharp whack with my palm to slightly open up the gap the runs the length of the aluminum piece. I had to put modest effort into getting the new cable end in just the right position, and there still seems to be a nice grip of the cable. I did not follow up with a crimper but I have seen or read where others did that.
(If anything slips or fails I will come back and update this report)
Tip- that black plastic push pin that is in the upper corner of the lower door panel was there for the assembly line worker to quickly get the panel in position before they install the 10mm nut and then the 2 philips head screws. That push pin has been baked in the heat for 20 years and it is going to break. Don't sweat it! The other 3 fasteners and the built in arms of the door panel that engage with the metal door frame will hold everything in place just fine.
