I’m Michael Gilmore, bearer of Noctis the Onyx Dragon, the only male student of Drako Academy, and apparently, the one person who can save a dying world.
Only a few days ago, I was transported from Los Angeles to a fantasy world teeming with super-powered female soldiers who can command the magic of their bonded dragons. Except the dragons are dying out. And I’m going to bring them back. But no one knows how I can do it. After all, how do you breed dragons? The answer lies within Drako Academy and the stunning female dragonmancers inside its crystal walls.

The truth is that I find his ideas interesting, and I have to admit after reading Dragon Breeder 1, that his MC here isn't as terrible as most of the MCs you find in harem self-fulfillment fantasy tales.
The problem is that while Mike the MC is better than most you find in the genre, the rest of the cast is extremely lacking in development. And when you combine that with a long and convoluted start that just never came together for me, I found that I had to fight through the story to finish it. Honestly, the big climatic fight from this story was something I skimmed as I was just no longer interested in what was happening.
Dante is a skilled writer, but he does skimp on character development and his story pacing tends to be more sleep-inducing than it should be. This tale just dragged early and the ending was very much lacking in emotional punch as I didn't know enough about the characters to care about them.
This is a fairly average Harem tale, which puts it deep into the mid 3 star range. I can recommend it to anyone who likes Dante's writing style, but I expect many reading this will find it slow and just lacking a good hook to get the reader immersed.
What killed this story for me was the PACING. Dear Lord Buckethead, this book was a slog. Two action scenes and a sex scene do not make up for the fact that entire chapters are more or less dedicated to worldbuilding or filling in the MC about magic and stuff, and nothing happens. Nothing changes about the MC status quo during these exposition dumps, and they are so long and so content-consuming that I legit forgot about the time in the forest with the goblins.
Some stories I write reviews for when I finished reading, while others I write because I stopped reading and later realized I didn't want to go back. For me, this happened about halfway through. It's an interesting world and I'd love to get into it, but I don't want to hear the nigh-constant high school history notes about it unless something else relevant or interesting is going on. These characters were not nearly engaging enough to get away with an extended history lecture, no matter how many breaks were taken for nookie or goblin-slaying.
