The Drawn by the Frost Moon trilogy consists of three standalones that are closely connected through a single historical event. It will take you on a three-layer journey through the incidents that kicked off the First Seminole War and whisked Spanish Florida toward its inevitable doom.
By three-layer, I mean that all the characters you'll come to know (and hopefully love!) in Bitter Eyes will be reappearing in the follow-on book and skipping backwards in time to show you this period from other angles. Tall Bull and Mink will give you the Red Stick perspective in Love the War Woman (2017). Through entirely fresh eyes, you'll learn where Mink went after she left Neamathla's lodge, what transpired while Marcus was outside Fort Scott, what becomes of Water Moccasin, why Tall Bull cannot see past Bitter Eyes to the war woman who adores him, and so much more.
War Woman will take you deeper into the historical events surrounding San Marcos and leave you excited to dig into Strong Bear and Pretty Wolf's adventures. Their romance will be told in Finding Pretty Wolf (2018), which will carry you through to the closing of this period in history.
Why have I chosen to lay out the story this way? Because the setting is so rich and full I couldn't bear to do away with any part of it. It's tricky as all get out to braid these three plots together without revealing too much too soon, but I trust the finished product will be worth the effort.

Bitter Eyes No More, part of 'Drawn by the Frost Moon Trilogy' is actually book four in the ‘Creek Country’ saga of historical fiction created by April Gardner. For fans of the previous books, this is a must read. Many of my favourite characters, including Totka Hadjo, appear in this book, but this is the story of two other people we’ve met before: Lillian McGirth and Doctor Marcus Buck. Buck was a likeable fellow in the previous books, but Lillian? Not so much. However, Gardner is able to take Lillian’s character and gradually transform her into someone we sympathize with and appreciate. The author has also done a magnificent job of bringing this era of American history into focus. The real life drama of the conflict among the Americans, Spanish, British and First Nations people comes to life. I appreciated her attention to detail and her historical integrity while weaving together a very personal story within a much larger cast of characters. Lillian’s and Marcus’s story is blazing hot; authentic in its heartache and humanity, yet pointing toward the power of God’s transforming and redemptive grace. I loved this book as much as any other in the series, and look forward to the next instalment. I think this entire saga needs to be made into a movie or mini-series!

Bitter Eyes No More is a true portrayal of what life was like during this time period. From the first words you are introduced to brutal reality of what war is like. Of what happens to both sides of Indians and soldiers. In this story you will feel the lush countryside and heat and humidity of life in Florida.

Lillian McGregor is like any woman who has been lured by any man with a strong allure of passion and confidence with women. A man that was handsome, she was led astray by the handsome Spanish Don, only to find him controlling and domineering. Her saving grace is her sweet daughter.

Captain Marcus Buck comes to Spanish Florida to find and rescue Lillian. Him and his saving sword Justice have been through a lot together. He wants to see justice met.

Lillian and Captain Buck find themselves in more entanglements, but what they discover is a lasting love.

This story is one you will never forget. It will sweep you away with its many actions, adventures, dangers, intrigue, and sweet romance. April Gardner has written a stellar book with Bitter Eyes No More! This book will make you thirst for more of her books!

Bitter Eyes No More, so far, has been the best book in the series. I loved that the reader got to see glimpses of the characters from the previous books. Just as I thought I had the story neatly wrapped up, some element of surprise popped up and took the story in a different direction. The main characters in this book are Lillian, "Bitter Eyes", and Marcus Buck, a physician with the military. Loved that this book dealt with forgiveness, redemption and how God's love is big enough to forgive all sins and that he loves his children unconditionally. Excited to start reading book five in the series.

First of all, I must say that I am a HUGE April Gardner fan! I stumbled across her works through Amazon's recommended books. I love historical fiction, and am a great lover of Native American protagonist. I fell in love with the stories of Totka and Adela/Copper Woman!!!!! I need to write a review on those books, but I digress.

Lillian is Copper Woman's younger sister and I was, shall I, EXTREMELY frustrated with Lillian in the previous three books!! She is something else. However, this book was a TREMENDOUS redemption story. I was very glad to see Captain Buck again. Ms. Gardner created him as Lillian's ying to his yang. Lillian was his missing rib.

This tale does not let up. It is filled with rich, meticulously-researched history. You meet great characters that you are invested in, whether it is cheering them on or loathing them to the hilt. There is action, and swoon-worthy romance. The scenes are scintillating without breaking the PG-13 barrier (I would let my daughters aged 14 and up read this tale).

I highly recommend this book. Cannot wait for the next book!!!!

Drawn by the Frost Moon: Bitter Eyes No More (Creek Country Saga Book 4), written by April W. Gardner, is a continuation of a saga but is a complete story on its own and can be read as a standalone.

Gardner’s books are excellent reading and Bitter Eyes No More continues in that fashion. As the reader reads the pages of Bitter Eyes No More they are taken to Spanish Florida to see, smell and touch the sights along the way…never lacking in the descriptive qualities of Gardner’s writings.

In Bitter Eyes No More, we get to know Lillian after she leaves home to start her own flawed life. She’s made choices that she wishes that she wouldn’t have and is now stuck in a life that she is first, ashamed of, and second, wishing she could get out of. Unfortunately, she’s involved with a Spanish don who has control over her in more ways than one…mainly because she has a daughter with him. Who comes to save the day?! Captain Marcus Buck…oh, I think he’s my favorite character! He’s come to rescue Lillian and her sweet daughter for justice…with Justice…but in the meanwhile, he’s found himself needing rescued!

This story brings hope for to those that are struggling with pasts that tarnish them…hope that only the one true God can do a work in lives to bring peace and happiness. One that choices, failures, and accomplishments can turn into joy unspeakable. Bitter Eyes No More is historical, adventurous, romantic, suspenseful, and an underlying thread of hope in salvation through Christ.
