Dungeon Crawl: Twenty-Sided Sorceress Series, Book 8 Audible Audiobook – Unabridged
New rule: Never owe a vampire a favor....
Nearly a year after defeating her evil ex, sorceress Jade Crow has found some peace running her comic book store and gaming with her friends. Until the vampire who helped her win against Samir comes knocking and wants the favor repaid.
The Archivist's request looks simple on its surface. Go into an empty house and check for magic items.
There's just a tiny problem: simple is not Jade's forte. There are lies around every turn and soon she's neck deep in undead.
Not all quests are what they seem and laid to rest doesn't mean the dead stay buried....

Seriously though, Jade Crow is a great heroine. Flawed, badass, loyal. She's been hiding for five years from a psycho-ex (who happens to be a big time sorcerer - Jade's a mid-time sorceress). Stuff happens. As it always does. Life goes sideways and Jade and her friends have to deal with it. I admit I didn't catch all the gaming/nerdy references but the ones I did get tickled me. It was sort of reminiscent of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (tm) in that 1) Jade is badass, b) she has friends she tries to keep out of the line of fire but who insist on helping her anyway, and 3) pop culture references anyone?
I am not a huge fan of urban fantasy but I think I have more of an aversion to dystopian stuff than actual urban fantasy. This is not dystopian. It's a small town in the middle of IDAHO. We've got shifters and leprechauns and mages and gamers and nerds and fun and ... yeah. I could go on but if you like nerdy stuff, if you like your heroes to be badass women (it is so hard to find GOOD fantasy/sci-fi stuff with kick-ass women as the protagonist, not the sidekick/love interest), if you like well drawn characters who grow through the series - check this one out. Jade Crow and her friends will worm their way into your heart and you'll be sorry to leave Wylde, Idaho behind.
Edited to add: Start with book 1 or you'll end up spoiling yourself. Start with one and progress naturally through the series.
I love to find out more with the 9 councils and the justices. I felt a tease when Alex was speaking to the sheriff about them. I hope that mean we will find out more the out come of them and how it will effect them.
I hope Harper had grow up while away. She alway the type who run head first before thinking thing out.
I hope you will give this book a chance! If you like D&D, a nerd on classic tv show than you will enjoy this book. There is no sex scene in this book! Good friends and lover who be there for a friend in needs.

Dungeon Crawl is set a year after the events of book 7 "Magic To The Bone" - and kicks off a brand new chapter in the series.
This can be read as a stand-alone novel (but there's a lot of world building in the previous 7 books) and this story definitely comes to a conclusion at the very end. That being said, there's obviously a lot of foundation here for a brand new story-arc.
A standout Urban Fantasy story.
I can't wait for book 9.
