500watts @ 40C / 3.3v 24A / 5V 20A / +12v 40A / +5vsb 3A / -12v .3A
This supply has a large fan that auto adjusts it's speed so it is quiet under light to moderate load. Under heavy load it can get a bit noisy but no worse then any other 80+ supply I've used. This supply has an on-off switch on the rear side.
My experience with this supply:
Power-up time and voltages were within spec when I tested them. I ran a 12 hour burn-in test when I installed it and the supply passed with no issues. (***Update 2016: I've had this power supply for over two years, I re-ran the 12 hour stress test and the supply passed again with no issues.***)
The big question:
Will this supply work in your computer? The list below should help answer this question.
Form factor: Is your mainboard and case ATX standard compatible?
ATX is the most common standard, but others exist such as like BTX or ITX, so be sure your mainboard and case ATX compatible. This information should be available on product spec sheets or contact your computer manufacturer.
Connectors: Are the connectors you need provided?
Take stock of your components and make sure this supply has a connector for every component. This supply has plenty of connectors so it's unlikely you'll need more then they provide.
Cable lengths: Are the cables above long enough?
If you are using a full size case be sure to check the cable lengths. For instance, if your supply is mounted on the top you may not be able to reach a bottom mounted SSD without a cable extension.
Watts: Can your system run on 500watts of power?
Use a free online power supply calculator to check the power requirements of your system. I prefer the OuterVision Power Supply Calculator but there are many others available. As a general rule you want at least %20 more watts then your system requires.
+12v Amps: Can your video card run on the Amps provided?
If you are using on-board (built into the motherboard) video then this does not apply. But if you have a discrete video card check the +12v rail requirement from the card manufacturer. As a general rule you want at least %20 more Amps then your card requires.
Proprietary system replacement:
If the replacement is for a proprietary system (store bought pre-assembled computer) then first confirm your supply is ATX standard and then replace it with one with equal or larger wattage and amperage. Check the sticker on the side of your current supply and make sure the wattage and each rail of this supply is equal or higher. If in doubt consult with your computer manufacturer.
2003 or earlier power supply replacement:
Modern ATX supplies do not provide a legacy -5v connection. If your computer was made in 2003 or earlier, and still has an ISA bus, it may need this legacy -5v connection. In short, if your current supply has a white wire on the ATX connector then this supply may not work for you. If in doubt consult with your computer manufacturer.
In all cases I strongly recommend testing any power supply before hooking it up to actual hardware. While defective supplies are rare, installing one could destroy any or all of your expensive components. I prefer the Coolmax LCD Power Supply Tester PS-228 (ASIN B002R06PGE) for this task but there are many good ATX power testers on the market.
Overall, it's an excellent supply given the low cost (about $40).
Then why four stars?
The first unit I received had a bad fan and was returned. I'm pretty sure this was a fluke because since then I have installed many more and had no problems with any of them. Every manufacturer makes the occasional lemon so don't let this deter you from buying this supply. In my experience EVGA stands behind their products and honors their warranty so there's no worries here.
I will buy another PSU from EVGA in the future and I do recommend them to friends.
The symptom of failure was that the PC's #3 light at the top of the case flashed dimly every few seconds or brightly if I pressed the power button. The machine wouldn't even attempt to fire up though. From past experience with this model and several others from Dell of the same era, I recognized the symptom.
After doing some research online, I found several sellers on Amazon that were selling replacement PSUs. They products were in the new category but the sellers never specifically said the word "new" which I took to mean that these were pulled components from salvaged parts machines being sold for scrap. Rather than buy a used PSU I elected to try and find a standard PSU that would fit the case. Enter this EVGA PSU. It had the specs I needed and connectors I required and excess of both. Installation was a breeze.
It only took 15 minutes tops. There are a few things to note. First off, the external power header is on the right side of the PSU when looking at the back of the PC and the EVGA is on the right. The header is close enough to the edge that it ended up under the edge of the EMI shielding. I could have cut the shielding with side cutters easily enough to allow the header to fit in perfectly, but I'm lazy. All it did was hold the shielding up in the middle 1/8" from the case. No big deal. It still works. You can see it in the picture though.
Also worth noting is that the Dell uses the standard 4 screws plus an internal tab that springs up and fits in a slot in the side of the PSU. It won't interfere though. Just press it down extra hard close to the back of it to bend it into the case. No big deal. There are also 2 metal hooks in the case and 2 slots in the top of the PSU that the hooks connect with. The hooks, slots and spring tab combine to hold the PSU in the case while you put the screws to it. The PSU will lean down enough to get the screws started to fit around the Dell oddities.
As far as the 20-pin and 4-pin connectors go, take a moment to look the connectors over. There are 2 white arrows painted on the connectors that indicate where they should meet. Press them together and hold them in that orientation as you insert the connectors into the single header. Also not a big deal.
I didn't need the 4-pin Molex cable or PCI-E cable. Or for that matter the 2nd CPU header. I also had to twist the SATA power header wires a little to get them to fit with the close spacing of the hard drives on the bottom of the case. Not a big deal either. I hid the extra cables and slack in the empty floppy drive bay. That was all there was to it.
My Dell Optiplex 960 Mini-Tower has a new PSU. I should be good to go until the next component breaks, though I don't expect this PSU to wear out before the motherboard does. It was a good buy!

Decepcionante.

EVGA PSUs seem to be really good quality and their aftercare support is second to none. The 3 year warranty on this model also offers some extra piece of mind too.
The PSU is well built and is finished in black. The cables are not modular but they are sleeved in black nylon which slightly disguises the renowned cable colours of red, orange and yellow ;) They were long enough for a Fractal Design XL case which is fairly large although you might struggle with anything larger. It does have the standard 8 pin CPU cable but does not include the additional 4 pin CPU cable for higher TDP CPUs. You should probably be looking at a better PSU if you need that connection on your motherboard.
This PSU was easily able to handle a constant 400W to the computer for several hours when the CPU, GPU and fans were all under full load during a stability stress test. Although rated for 500W you really don't want to be running it too close to that, it is a limit after all, and not a target! I would not recommend using this PSU for dual graphics cards especially as there is also only 1x PCI-E cable with a 6 pin and 6+2 pin plug.
It's also fairly silent in operation which is always a bonus.
Great PSU for the money and very happy with it. Highly recommended

This power supply is powering my AMD processor and my MSI Nvidia GTX 960 OC. I've had no issues whatsoever and it's continued to impress me since purchasing. I'll probably use this for my next build as well. For the price it is tremendous.
For hardcore gamers considering SLI or dual GPU with DX12 I would recommend a beefier unit, but for most single cards and almost any processor, it's great.
It's a shame that it's not semi or even fully modular, but for the price it's to be expected. I'm thoroughly impressed with this PSU.

Cost was a factor in the replacement, but fairly good power output was also needed.
The EVGA is quite nicely made, glossy finish on the unit. It can cope well with high loads and with good energy efficiency.
It's price is a little cheaper than the equivalent Corsair CX model, though quite comparable in most ways (build, cabling and output)
Pros:
+ Well priced for a budget 500w PSU
+ Fairly quiet at mid to low power outputs
+ 80 plus good energy efficiency
+ Over/under voltage, temp protection (this is why it's a good idea to avod the super budget offerings)
+ 3 year warranty

If this review helped you make a decision, please don't forget to give it a thumbs up so others can find it too :-)
