Now the issue. When the power supply failed it didn't just stop delivering power, i fried my motherboard and memory and one of the ssd drives in the machine. I don't know how but the cpu still runs like a champ. The power supply still puts out some power but voltage levels are inconsistent and frequently to low. So that's done, i call evga about replacing the power supply under warranty. (I didn't mention anything else since they won't cover that anyway) and they look it all up and confirm it's still warranty and if i go online (they tell me this while I'm talking with them) and register it and call them back, they will start the RMA process which should only take 24 hrs. Then when they get the power supply back from me (i pay shipping) then they seems me a new one the slowest cheapest way possible. All in all the process will take about a week and a half plus however long i take- figure 2 weeks total. Plus I'm out shipping which will run about $20 (or more if i don't choose the cheapest option).
So for a $40 power supply it costs me at least $20 and a 2 week wait, for a computer i use every day. After the way it damaged my computer I'm not putting another one in anything i care about plus the time and expense making it questionable if it's even worth sending back and wasting the time. For me evga power supplys aren't worth it. I suggest getting something cheaper or much more reliable depending on your needs.
Edit: Almost 5 years later and this PSU is still working fine. No issues at all and has been on 24/7.

Let me explain. I'm a system builder with over 2500 builds under my belt, mostly gaming rigs. Over the years I've used every single name brand power supply on the market looking for that "sweet spot", the perfect combo of price to performance. The EVGA series of power supplies has only gotten better with time, and I find myself using all of their power supplies, almost exclusively.
This version is the lowest tier they sell, and the price may make you think "this has got to be a piece of garbage for that price!" And even I thought so....at first. Unlike Corsair and their hit and miss CX series, this series is rock solid and stable as all get out. Even after several YEARS of use, they still work great, no issues at all. The warranty proves that EVGA stands behind their lowest end product, and no other manufacturer seems to have as much faith in their lowest tier product...I wonder why? ;-)
Honestly, if you wan't a strong, well designed STABLE power supply for anything from a web surfer to a full on gaming rig, EVGA is the best on the market right now, no if's and's or but's. Save the cash and buy a better video card or more memory and know you got the power end covered.
Thought I had found the noise to be coming from the power supply so after much research I determined the EVGA brand to be the best replacement option.
I received this new power supply just a few weeks ago so I cannot give a long term feedback on how well it performs at this time but it seems like a very solid unit with wiring that seems to be heavy duty.
I had only ever replaced a power supply one time in the 30+ years I have owned a computer so once I got the old unit out of the case I laid it on the side of the case and proceeded to replace the connectors one at a time rather than trying to remember all of the connections from memory. Everything went smoothly but after starting the PC back up I could not get my DVD drive to work. Seems that the power cable from the old unit had pulled off when I moved it out of it's bracket. Hooked up the new power supply cable to it and all is well.
The unit is quiet and proving an extra 40W over my previous 460W unit but just as a note to anyone else with fan noise issues - replacing the power supply did not resolve my fan noise issues. Ultimately, after much more trying to narrow where the noise was coming from, I finally found it was a fan on the bottom of my graphics card. I had no idea there was a fan there and there was no indication in the original configuration of the PC. So now I have a partially rebuilt PC that should last me a few more years and this new power supply will help it get those extra years.

Decepcionante.

EVGA PSUs seem to be really good quality and their aftercare support is second to none. The 3 year warranty on this model also offers some extra piece of mind too.
The PSU is well built and is finished in black. The cables are not modular but they are sleeved in black nylon which slightly disguises the renowned cable colours of red, orange and yellow ;) They were long enough for a Fractal Design XL case which is fairly large although you might struggle with anything larger. It does have the standard 8 pin CPU cable but does not include the additional 4 pin CPU cable for higher TDP CPUs. You should probably be looking at a better PSU if you need that connection on your motherboard.
This PSU was easily able to handle a constant 400W to the computer for several hours when the CPU, GPU and fans were all under full load during a stability stress test. Although rated for 500W you really don't want to be running it too close to that, it is a limit after all, and not a target! I would not recommend using this PSU for dual graphics cards especially as there is also only 1x PCI-E cable with a 6 pin and 6+2 pin plug.
It's also fairly silent in operation which is always a bonus.
Great PSU for the money and very happy with it. Highly recommended

This power supply is powering my AMD processor and my MSI Nvidia GTX 960 OC. I've had no issues whatsoever and it's continued to impress me since purchasing. I'll probably use this for my next build as well. For the price it is tremendous.
For hardcore gamers considering SLI or dual GPU with DX12 I would recommend a beefier unit, but for most single cards and almost any processor, it's great.
It's a shame that it's not semi or even fully modular, but for the price it's to be expected. I'm thoroughly impressed with this PSU.

As remarked elsewhere the cable bunches are cased in a netting cover which makes the completed installation a little neater.
One strange thing is that the tapped mounting holes do not appear to accept the "standard" computer screws but only the ones supplied for the purpose in the kit. Just a little something. to watch. A mains "kettle lead" is also supplied.

Cost was a factor in the replacement, but fairly good power output was also needed.
The EVGA is quite nicely made, glossy finish on the unit. It can cope well with high loads and with good energy efficiency.
It's price is a little cheaper than the equivalent Corsair CX model, though quite comparable in most ways (build, cabling and output)
Pros:
+ Well priced for a budget 500w PSU
+ Fairly quiet at mid to low power outputs
+ 80 plus good energy efficiency
+ Over/under voltage, temp protection (this is why it's a good idea to avod the super budget offerings)
+ 3 year warranty
