For twenty-nine-year-old Lola Watson, life is finally looking up: she has fabulous friends, is working her dream job at a popular magazine, and has just inherited a beautiful house from her late aunt. Sure, her love life isn’t in great shape, but she’s got time, right? And so what if her new neighbors are a little too friendly (i.e., incredibly nosy)?
Okay, maybe she could stand for a little less drama from her friend Hubert, who unexpectedly moves in after his girlfriend kicks him out. Other than that, life is great! At least, until her little sister Mindy announces that she is getting married — on Lola’s thirtieth birthday, no less. It’s the final straw in Mindy’s long history of one-upping her sister, and so Lola’s best friend Piper hatches the perfect revenge: find a guy to pose as Lola’s fiancé and steal her sister’s thunder by announcing an engagement at Mindy’s reception. It’s an ambitious plan, and not just any man will do.
Enter Ryan Moriarty, Lola’s handsome, well-dressed, and wonderfully mysterious new neighbor. He’s definitely a catch, and their burgeoning relationship sets the neighborhood gossips’ tongues to wagging. But when their well-meaning meddling unearths surprising revelations, what they find could derail Lola’s entire plan — or enrich her life beyond her dreams. With its cynical-yet-loveable heroine, this lighthearted romantic comedy serves as an entertaining reminder that the deepest love and the truest friendship often can be found closer to home than we ever imagined possible.

I feel kind of bad about this review, since I've certainly never written a novel myself, but I am an avid reader who depends upon reviews, so here's a heads up, fellow bookworms.
Easily Amused is one of Karen McQuestion’s first published worlds and as I have read her newer books, I can see how she has evolved as a writer. The story was cute and funny. Although I found Lola to be very annoying and opinionated, especially about situations that she has no experience with, she redeems herself in the end. In Easily Amused, it is the secondary characters that were the most interesting. The residents of King Street, an eccentric but great group, were the heart and soul of the story. They are able to show Lola that family is more than who you are related to. Through Hubert, Lola finally sees there is more to her neighbors than her first impressions. The story was fun and entertaining. It is a lighthearted story which doesn’t try to take itself too seriously but gives us the reminder that love, family and a sense of belonging can be found where we least expect it. I recommend Easily Amused.
Easily Amused is available in paperback, eBook and audiobook.
The supporting characters (Lola's neighbors) are terrific! And how she could over look her "best friends" and their awesomeness is beyond me. She has amazingly witty and giving people all around her and yet she sulks the whole book.
All is not lost on this book though, it is charming and laid back. There are quite a few chucks to be had and it is a light, very light romance book. Although in my opinion the man of Lola's dreams had absolutely no chemistry with her and I'm not sure what happened to make her think their romance would work. But if you are looking for a cute, quirky book go ahead and try it out!

It was quite nice getting to know the characters of King Street. I could understand how Lola felt overwhelmed by them all. It was obvious that it had been closely knitted as a community for some time.
Hmm favourite character? Probably Piper who is a bit more distant from it all. A disliked character would be out of two but without spoilers I can’t tell you!
I enjoyed the twists and tears as well as a good love story! I didn’t laugh out loud but I don’t think I was meant to necessarily, I really enjoyed this story and had to say shh to family members so I could finish reading a ‘really good bit!’
Only but I didn’t ‘get’ was why be left a house when you’re not close? But maybe that says more about myself and family rather than the book!
I’d recommend this book and I know others enjoy it too.

Lola moves in, intending to keep herself to herself, but things are never that simple.
Well-meaning neighbours, coupled with an unexpected house guest, a meddling best friend and a sister hell-bent on always one upmanship, make for an easy read about how sometimes you don't realise that what you need has always been right in front of you.

With a simple, cliche plot, that repeats the Wizard of Oz lesson of not looking further than your own backyard, it's the characters who really make this book, and there's loads of them, all well thought out and believable, although not always likeable. For instance, Lola, the main character, comes across as a whiney brat in the first few pages, and is initially quite unlikeable.
However, the book quickly shapes up to look like a real page turner, with the potential for a great ending, where the spiteful sister gets her comeuppance. Sadly that wasn't the case.
The most dramatic occurrence in the whole book is covered so quickly; that what should have been an all inclusive, blast of a climax, is nothing more than a boiled lettuce leaf, as the author seems to chicken out of writing the big confrontation.
It's a happy ever after of sorts for everyone involved, heavy on the cheese and light on the melodrama ... it lacks intensity. Putting it simply, if this book was a ham salad, you'd be wondering where all the meat was once you'd got through the garnish.
