A year and a half into our marriage, I found out my husband had been having an affair with a nineteen-year-old for six months. I filed for divorce and left.
Two weeks later I met a man, and we fell madly in love. It was a fairy-tale romance for a month and a half, and he convinced me to join him on a romantic month-long vacation in Italy. Forty-eight hours before we were supposed to get on a plane, he told me he needed to go by himself. I was devastated. So, I had a decision to make. Either stay home and be heartbroken, or go travel Europe for a month by myself. And staying at home heartbroken?
F%*k. That. What does a woman do when her life has fallen apart and her heart has been ripped out and stepped on twice in two months? She goes on a wild adventure, makes some bad decisions, and does a sh*t load of soul searching. But most importantly? She finds out how to love…herself.
This is so not Eat, Pray, Love.
This is Eat, Pray, #FML.

"Even with five kids, I could NOT put this book down. I don’t think I’ve ever read something more raw, relatable, and wildly entertaining. For anyone who’s gone through love, divorce, heartbreak, or needs to learn to love themselves and take their damn power back. READ. THIS. BOOK.
-Tori Spelling (Actress)
"Reading this book has absolutely inspired me. These are words of pure truth. To say I needed to read this is an understatement. I'm so thankful for this book and how it opened my eyes about myself and my relationships. I'm ready to see it on the big screen!"
-SCOUT TAYLOR COMPTON (Actress)
"Eat, Pray, #FML is a riveting journey of what happens when your life is thrown to the wolves and you come out leading the pack. This isn't a soul-searching book, it's a soul defining book, and Gabrielle shows us how to elegantly do so...without giving a single f%*k."

About the author

Gabrielle Stone is no stranger to the world of entertainment. Growing up on set with her legendary scream-queen mother, Dee Wallace (Cujo, E.T.), she had days of licking off mommy’s fake blood and traveling, which gave her the travel bug at an early age. Gabrielle experienced a real-life horror when she lost her father suddenly at age seven.
After many years in the industry herself, Stone transitioned from meaty acting roles to writing and directing. Her award-winning films It Happened Again Last Night and After Emma gained her awards for writing, directing, and acting—but she had a bigger role in life that would soon present itself: freaking badass.
After the rug was vigorously pulled out from under her when her husband’s affair came to light, she found herself falling into the arms of another man. After a second failed attempt at love and a massive heartbreak, she decided that instead of landing flat on her ass—she’d make a career out of it.
And so came the birth of the book Eat, Pray, #FML, where she shared all the mistakes, all the lessons, and most importantly, how she became a fearless leader from it all.
When fans around the world demanded more, the highly anticipated sequel, The Ridiculous Misadventures of a Single Girl, and the podcast FML Talk were born—and Gabrielle soon realized that her broken heart had bloomed a movement.

Look, I get it. Her life sucked. Welcome to the club, honey. It's not all rainbows and unicorns. But this was just bad. On a personal note, yeah, sorry about your jerk of an ex-husband and Javier being all locked in himself (as someone who has lost a brother to suicide and has a tendency to lock myself away in myself, I just have to say... sorry, sometimes we just deal with thing in different ways--we can't all be like you and talk it out, mmmmkay?). You have definitely surrounded yourself with some worthless men. And I'm sorry for you for that.
Every pet peeve I have in writing style, Gabrielle Stone seems to have. She doesn't describe anything--she just tells you. "It was so big and pretty." Like the beauty of it all is some kind of secret she wants to keep... yet she wants you to shell out money for this book and she won't tell you anything. I mean, honestly, a ghostwriter or an editor would have been so helpful here.
I hate DNFing a book, I really do, and I have slogged my way through some bad ones in the past, but I just cannot finish this one. I really don't care about her path to enlightenment, and you shouldn't either.
And I have to stipulate that I just skimmed the second half. Turned it into a sort of drinking game:
Arrives in new city:
talks about how little sleep she got✔️(at 28)
Tells new people her whole bloody story✔️
People are amazed ✔️
Talks about writing this book✔️
People are amazed ✔️
Hooks up with hot guy✔️
Talks about how much older than him she is✔️ (at 28)
“Freaking cool”✔️✔️✔️✔️
“Literally”✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️(Chris from Parks and Rec would be so proud)
SO many missed opportunities. I get that it’s supposed to be a journey of self discovery but a little interest in other people would be refreshing. Who is this boho chick in Amsterdam with the amazing apartment? Where does she go all day while her guest is sleeping in? What does she do?
Who are all these fellow travelers outside of what they say to the pretty blonde from America? We literally don’t know anything but how they served her.
And a travel book should tell me SOMETHING about the places visited beyond the Eiffel Tower is high.
Just remember that this is a self-serving reflection and the author mostly cares about showing how much she’s accomplished. It’s not about supporting your journey; humans are intrigued by any level of celebrity, though. If you were led to this book because you are going through a divorce or getting over a toxic relationship, remember that you are worthy. There are far better ways to invest in healing rather than consuming trash tv or novels that put on the guise of being “inspirational”. In the long run, watching or mirroring self-described influencers can make you feel worse about your own circumstance. The implication is that you should have turned your pain or trauma into art, or traveled the world, or had some massive “glow-up”. Remember that comparison is the thief of joy, and the sheer fact that you survived all that you have is enough.
