I will be honest, Dane, at times, threw his wealth around a little too much and it started to feel like he was trying to buy her love. But his first Christmas gift to her really came from the heart and gave her something that no amount of money ever could, answers to the unknowns in her life. I definitely appreciated that this was a slow burn romance because in reality not everyone immediately jumps into bed with someone. I appreciated that he was respectful of her decisions and waited for her to be ready without pressuring her.
I saw this book mentioned on tiktok and imagine my surprise when I realized I had already read/purchased the whole series a few years ago (I just didn't take time to leave reviews back then so decided to re-read the books since I only vaguely remembered the story).
Evan and Laney's love story start days before they graduate from high school; therefore, they will face some hurdles. All good until there. However, when they start college -oh man-, prepare yourself for a lot of drama. This story is about Laney discovering herself away from home, new experiences, hormones, and a rich guy. Do not get me wrong, if you are into drama stories, this is for you. I enjoyed reading most of this book, but there were moments I just had to put it down because I just could not stand the characters.
I will continue reading the series -yes, I got interested enough to want to continue reading the other books.
Laney and Evan are best friends since they are 10 years old. In their senior year Evan takes her to their senior prom and asks to date her. She has never had a boyfriend prior to the few weeks with Evan. They are so sweet together and he loves her totally. They get accepted into separate colleges and have to go their own way for the first time in years. Both are devastated but Laney insists that they remain "friends" only and enjoy college life without expectations. She doesn't want to loose their friendship should he be tempted by other girls.
Once Laney arrives at school she meets a group of people she calls "The Crew". They all become very close, her roommate Bennett and friends Tate and Zach. She meets Tate's brother Dane and finds him to be "beautiful". Dane doesn't attend the college and is pretty vague about his private life. Dane slowly pursues Laney knowing she has strong feelings for Evan but also knowing they are not a couple.
Read ahead for how it ends and spoilers.
During this time Laney finds out her best friend betrayed her and kept her and Evan apart on purpose in more ways than one. Dane is super nice and treats her well but they never have that "falling in love" moment to sell the reader on the relationship. They lack the intensity and attraction, just no wow factor for me after all we were given with Evan. We are just left with Evan's devastation and almost not liking Laney for treating him this way. The next book is more about Evan I believe and is available on Kindle Unlimited so I do plan to read that after I get over this ending, ugh. 3.5 Stars

I love the beginning of this book. Laney's little butter wouldn't melt act in front of her dad. And her cocky little attitude towards Evan, it was so funny.
Evan is the boy next door. Every mum would love their daughter to bring an Evan Allen home. He's sweet, adorable and looks out for Laney.
Unfortunately things don't always go as planned. Their dream of going to collage together never came true and they were destined to go in their own directions.
However I wanted to scream at Laney for not giving them a shot. Her best friend. Apparently the boy she loves. Who does that? Well Laney of course.
Most of the book is based on Laneys collage experience. This is were I really loved the book. She goes on a Hall Crawl were she meets the Crew, and Dane. The new characters that came in were really well thought out.
Bennett is the best room mate she could ask for. To be honest the whole crew where really good. I loved the way Sawyer was always there for everyone. He was the big, soft guy. One everyone can love. But Evan had my true heart throughout this book.
The tight friendships that they made was shown continuously in the book. They were all there for each other.
The twist that was put in about kaitlyn, I honestly never seen coming. To just think how lives change and how different directions life could of gone if things had of been different was good to see.
The end of this book was so, so sad. I Lost. I Left and I Lost. I wanted to cry for poor sweet adorable Evan.

I hate love triangle novels, but only because they are so heart breaking for me. I always love all the characters and never want anyone to get hurt, but I do find they go the same way.
I read Rachael Brownell's Holding On before this (even though it was published after this one) and I found the plots very similar but I love S.E Hall's so much more.
Not only are all the characters hot as hell, they are also some very good sex scenes, some hilarious lines and the most adorable characters!
Sawyer is becoming my favourite, he's currently the dirty dog but so loyal to his friends. He just needs to find the right woman and I think he might find her in Book 3.
I'm currently working my way through book 2, which focuses more on Evan. He is an amazing guy, such a romantic, sometimes he's so lovely I barely believe he's a 19 year old guy. Sometimes 'The Crew' can seem quite young, especially as there are a few virgins, not a bad thing obviously but they are quite young and naive sometimes. But it is great to watch them grow up, which is obviously what they're all doing.
This series really has me hooked, I've read a few free books which are the start of series but this one made me NEED to buy the next one. I've even seen a few fan made TV/film cast line ups and I would love to see this in a movie or a TV series. It does make me chuckle and I think S.E Hall may fast becoming a new favourite author of mine.
Perfect amounts of romance, sex, humour, adorable characters, drama and twists that this book is definitely worth a read. But be warned, you are signing up for a 4 book deal as soon as you start!

This book had me hooked and i read it all in 1 day and then went straight in and added the rest of the series to my Kindle, had me smiling, laughing and crying at times, sucked completely into it and am not wanting the series to end!

Emerge is the first book in the Evolve series where we meet Laney, Evan and Dane
So Laney and Evan have been best friends and inseparable since they were 10 years old. Just before going off to different collages Evan decides it's time to face up to the fact that he's in love with Laney.
"I've dreamed of kissing her since I was 10 years old. I knew it wouldn't be the same when and if it ever happened....it's isn't."
But with the thousands of miles that will be between them throughout their collage years Laney thinks it's best to stay as friends and if its ment to be they will find a way back to each other.
I really liked Evan he was such a sweetie and would do anything to protect Laney, he's the perfect best friend.
"Laney your THAT girl...the one guys make up in their head when they put the parts together to make one perfect girl"
Once Laney goes off to collage she meets her room mate Bennett who starts to bring Laney out of her shell and encourages her to get involved in a collage event this is where she meets the swoon worthy Dane who is everything Evan isn't.
There was something about Dane that made me like him instantly and from that moment I was Team Dane all the way, he was kind and caring but still rough around the edges with his wash board abs and just sexed hair.
"Baby" I say as I drop a kiss on her forehead "You can plan out dates, tell me what to wear, run the radio" I wink "You can even name our kids one day...after Disney characters even. But in the bedroom, the hot tub, against the wall, or basically anywhere I have you naked and wet...let me lead."
The supporting characters were great I loved Sawyer and im looking forward to hearing more about the crew.
The only reason I dropped half a star for this was because I got the last page and was like WHAT Nooooo I need more!!!! I can't wait for book 2 to see how it all pans out for Evan.
