Ryk Brown is a prolific writer, and I've been following his work for about the past decade. Every time he releases a novel, I ponder how long I should delay before cracking it. Captain Nathan Scott has a universe to preserve and a species to prolong, despite the fact that mankind finds all sorts of new ways to try and destroy all that it has become. In "A Price Too High," the 12th in the second Frontiers Saga, Scott's Karuzari alliance finally gets a bit of a break. Of course, Brown never makes it easy. The threat remains, and it's likely to grow. But Scott has recruited a potential ally that may pay big dividends. This being a Brown novel, the stakes are high and the expectations of this ally even higher. Scott finds he must pass a test, one he knows he has no chance of attaining. He's the man, though. He can do it. And Brown has that way of building up to the climax that always satisfies. He's also the man. I love his books.

I really liked this episode especially the beginning. The idea of a utopian society is thought provoking. Killing off Jessica and Nathan made me think about jumping off this book series and was glad you brought them back.

One observation - the language seems to be sinking to current earth standards. Seems like the future language has been dropping standards and adding cussing as if it were 2019. Would prefer your inventiveness of future language. Jump drive - vid play etc. Also, you bring in concepts of God, yet don’t unpack them and in fact take God out of the equation. Why bring in God and then not give Him a fair shake. Roddenberry did and it was bold.

After reading about a dozen or so of the 27 books in the series so far, I decided to go back and reread them while I waited for the next book. Then after #26, while I was waiting for this one I decided to do the same thing. At the end of the 2nd to last scene I thought, "Ok... Ryk's written 27 in this series... maybe he is tired of it and is ending it by ending 2 of the most important characters." Then you did this amazing plot twist. I can normally spot them a mile away, but not this one. Well done Mr. Brown. So glad there will be more.

Love the series! I have followed these adventures since day one several years ago. This is the longest series that I have stuck with, and I have not lost my interest once. Not once have I thought that Mr. Brown has jumped the shark. This story with multiple arcs and huge cast of characters have kept me riveted. You become invested with each individual character and the individual cultures involved. I highly recommend this series. You drool in anticipation for the next book. Fortunately, Mr. Brown cranks these out at a fast pace, so you don’t have to wait long.

I read a couple of the negative reviews. Look, this isn't the great American novel. This is a serialized science fiction story, and if you bought this, you already know what you're getting. The stories are obviously a little uneven--that's inevitable when they're being cranked out like this, but I still look forward to them, and I don't mind plunking 5 bucks every few months. I see it like a Patreon page.

Anyway, my point is that you have to compare this book to the other books in the series and I quite enjoyed this one.

Do not want to give away anything plot wise, but this was a heart pounder towards the ending. This series goes from strength to strength with new characters introduced and the main story rolling along nicely.
Would love to see a graphic novel of one of these books to get a look at the Aurora from different angles. I would recommend researching the author as there are some interesting items on his website that give the reader some insight to this wonderful world. Rollon the next instalment please.

I used to enjoy these books but I agree with the other reviewer that the price is too high for such short books, with what are now the same predictable plots and a drop in writing standard. The use of words is sometimes very odd! I'm also fed up with Nathan being constantly doubted in his decision making during battle by Cameron, Jessica, etc, when surely by know they should trust him or get on and just do as told!

That's it for me, it was a great series but time to call it a day

This book is quite frankly a boring addition to a series that should have finished a while ago.
