know which 410XL you need to buy

This is NOT the 410XL double width cartridge for the far left position. It can replace the photo black cartridge on the far right and by "XL" it has a greater capacity than the 410 but I use up the standard 410XL much faster because I don'r print photo quality.

Epson makes it almost impossible to buy the basic 410XL by itself. Why?

Ink in the cartridge is probably okay, but description by Amazon is lousy. I am another individual that purchased this item (2 in fact) thinking it was the larger of the two black inks required by this printer. Unfortunately, I opened it, like others have done, before realizing the error, so I am out $38. I can't return the second one either, as I ordered it for my mom's printer and she too opened it before realizing the mix up. Very bad ink description by Amazon, they should absolutely change it to make it MUCH clearer.

Repeatedly Frustrating Ink Order

I keep getting the photo black when I am trying to order the regular black. It must be Epson's way to frustrate me and make me spend more to get what I really want. Their part numbering system is at fault. I do very little photo copying but a lot of document printing. The printer itself also holds little paper and is difficult to load. Next time, I will get a different printer than the Epson XP-830; it is not worth the trouble.

Beware of confusing 410XL black cartridge labeling!

The reason I'm giving this a 1 star, even though it may be a good ink cartridge, is because of the name. I have an Epson XP-830 printer that I love and have had no issues with. When I ran out of the LARGE black ink cartridge called "410XL" this is the one I thought I needed.

It turns out that this cartridge is the skinny "photo black" or "PBK" cartridge that is also sold in a 410XL version. My skinny PBK cartridge is only labeled as "410", so I had no idea that it is also sold in an "XL" version.

WHY EPSON!?? Seems like a no-brainer to just call your two different black cartridges by a different number - very easily confused labeling system for your black inks....boooooooo. :-(

Something seems fishy here

My printer would not accept this product...for some reason it read it as one of the 410 i startup cartridges that came with the printer. When I inserted the new cartridge, supposedly a 410XL, the printer popped an error up that said the printer had already been initialized and needed a replacement cartridge. I tried for hours to make it work, finally got frustrated and bought an identically packaged cartridge at staples and it worked immediately. Either this cartridge was mislabeled or misprogrammed, whether intentionally or not I'm not sure but I won't be buying ink from this seller again.

Do Not Buy Off Brand

With our last Epson printer, we were able to buy off brand inks that saved us a lot of money and lasted just as long. With this printer, we tried several off brands but they either did not work (error reading the chips), or they did not last nearly as long. We're having to print a LOT of pages right now for school, and this cartridge is SLOWLY making it's way to empty, even with the print settings being on grey scale so it doesn't use up any of the other more expensive color cartridges.

At first I was upset that the off brands were not working for this printer (even when they were but were emptying quickly), but I really feel like I get my money's worth on these genuine cartridges since they are lasting so long and are less than $20 each.

Ever since there have been printers people have wanted to save money on "ink" whether it be ribbons for the dot matrix printers, toner for the laser printers or ink cartridges for the ink jet printers. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I have used 3rd-party ribbons with no ill effects. That was easy. Toner, I forget. But with the Epson ink jet printers there are three factors, the ink in the cartridge, the print head that it goes through and whether or not the printer will accept the cartridge. Whether 3rd-party ink is bad for print heads or not I cannot say but I do know that sometimes the cartridge will be rejected by the printer and then it is just like having no ink at all. That was my situation this go-a-round. So I opted for name brand and the confidence that it not be rejected has value. The ink works fine and time will tell about how the black print head does. I have had no problem with it but this is a review of the ink not the print head. With ink jet printers I have found that it is good to "exercise" the print heads rather than let them sit unused for days in a row.

The EPSON line of printers that use this ink produce fabulous documents and photo images, but my EPSON 7100 printer eats this ink like (insert food item here) and before I know it, I'm replacing yet again more cartridges. They are expensive and 3rd party (Chinesee made) versions don't always work because the printer can detect non-Epson products.

I have an older EPSON ET-3710 with the tank feature and it is much more economical.

The ink is exactly what I needed, got what I ordered, in a timely fashion.

Very shortly after installing the ink my entire printer broke beyond repair. My husband claims it is because it fell off a high shelf, not the new ink, but the printer never fell before the ink was installed so my suspicion is that it was the ink.
