Update 11/27/2019: It no longer works after 8 months. I only used the projector for maybe 100 hours. I'll call Epson to see if it's under warranty.
I bought this projector to use in my bedroom with a casual setup. The image is very good, and subtitles are easy to read. The text is slightly granulated due to the resolution, but it isn't something that I notice while I'm watching.
The color is pretty good too. I keep it on eco mode and I have no issue with the color or brightness. I have an 11 ft projector distance and the image is roughly 90 inches using a 16:9 ratio. One annoying thing about this projector is that it always projects at 4:3 ratio, but it projects pure black bars when viewing in 16:9. They really aren't that noticeable, but I would prefer if it didn't operate this way.
The only other complaint is that there is no audio out. It has built in speakers, which are ok, but you need to buy an hdmi extractor to output audio to external speakers. Extractors are ~$20. I think that you can buy a wireless dongle as well for bluetooth speakers.
The image definitely wont compare to a 4K tv image, but I think that the image is great for a budget projector. I have no regrets buying it.

Okay, the picture isn’t as good as the 1080p projectors I run, or nearly as good as the high end Pro L projectors my office uses, but boy is it bright. It’s even brighter than the ones I use for home theater purposes. Sure the native 800 x 600 resolution lends itself to the blurry, but you can’t tell unless you’re really paying attention.
The winning feature here is the color and brightness.
I ran tests as soon as I had time over the weekend to see how well it did in bright environments and I was thoroughly impressed. Unfortunately, it was raining on the day I ran tests, so I just turned on the lights and opened the curtains. I figured it was roughly the same amount of light as being under the gazebo in the backyard.
First I ran an old business slide, followed by a high color photo then a low light image. I then ran a dark movie, a bright, colorful children’s movie, an evenly lit movie, an evenly lit TV show then a dramatically lit TV show. Then I ran a trailer to check motion.
Sound isn’t great though, it’s tinny and fairly low (The projectors at work sound about the same, but are louder). I suggest you use an external sound output and hook it up to the source.
Photos of picture tests included. All projected onto a light grey wall at eco setting. Keep in mind that this was all in a very bright room with blinds open on a rainy day and lights on. These photos don’t show you exactly what to expect, but they should give you an idea. The video should give some sort of indication of sound quality also. Sound turned all the way up.
Epson VS250 – This is a serious brand with a fantastic low budget projector. I compared with my other 720p from Epson and also with my old but expensive Acer DLP and the quality is very similar.
This is definitely the best product you can get at this range of price. All the necessary options are there, the kaystones work well (automatics and manual) and the colours are great.
Asian brands - (Bomaker and this applies probably to Vankyo, Aperman…) show all these high resolutions, lumen, contrast and infinite lamp life but the quality and functionality is not even close in any capacity to the (800 x 600) from Epson. Who knows where these other brands will be in 2 years? Trust me I tested everything. The fan is near of having a vacuum next to your ears, the keystone will alternate your image terribly so it is useless. The 1080p units are huge and if you don’t have the perfect position, it is impossible to get a good focus. It is only good if you use it right in front of your wall and with external loud speakers.
If your budget is around $200 and you are planning on getting your first projector go ahead with 720p Vankyo low budget projectors at around $100-$180. Units are smaller and at least you can manage to put them in the right position with a tripod. Colours are very standard but acceptable if you use it in a very dark room.
If your budget is around $300, do not hesitate and go for the Epson-VS250 and get a real projector. The fan is silent, the brand is very known so you will find your replacement for bulbs very easy after a reasonable 5000 hours of use.
(I have more than 3000 hrs on my old Epson 2600 lumen and when I put it next to the Bomaker “6000 lux” the Epson was so shiny that you could barely see what the Bomaker was projecting)
Estoy encantado con mi proyector, porque la calidad de mis clases ha aumentado.
Picture quality although not HD, is pretty good for the price. Using it to watch live TV, movies, sports events, pictures, youtube. etc. Not meant for presentation with small fonts . Text is blurry and hard to read if too small. If you are peaky about the resolution and want a very clear picture (where you do not notice pixels), go for a 720p or full HD projector (look at native resolution only. They are much more expensive. Avoid cheap brands).
I bought an HDMI switch to connect an Android box, Miracast dongle and a chromebook and also to extract the sound from one source instead of having to move my speaker cable from those three sources. Also connected DVD player using composite connection. I get anolog sound but that is fine with me. I did not try the SDPIF connection from the HDMI switch box.
Like stated in many reviews, I hoped the projector had it's own audio out ports.
Nevertheless, I am, quite happy with my setup and this allows me to watch my favorite shows, movies, pictures and sporting evens on the "big screen". The pictures below were taken from an 80" (diagonal) projection screen using this Epson projector. Eco mode and cinema color settings.
- couleurs exacte
SI VOUS VOULEZ CONNECTER UN CHROMECAST ET QUE VOUS VOULEZ QUE LE SONS SORT SUR DES HAUTS PARLEURS EXTERNES VOUS ALLEZ DEVOIR ACHETER UN: Extracteur Audio Splitter HDMI.
