My only complaint is their strong wills lasted too long - some of it became repetitive. The H was a powerful Duke who helped the poor. He didn't want credit for it, but knowing he made a difference was enough. But, being a powerful Duke, he was use to getting his own way. So he obviously clashed with the h.
The h also was a champion of the poor but because she was a women, she had to at times put herself in danger. She was secretly helping the H get votes for social causes. She knew who he was, but he didn't know about her, because she sent him letter's as coming from a man.
The h wanted to marry a man who had no interest in her as a wife so she could continue her causes secretly. Of course the Duke, didn't fit her requirements of a husband. So to say sparks ignited whenever they discussed anything is an understatement.
The banter between the H/h kept the story from being a cookie cutter. At times, I laughed out loud.
There is lovemaking, outside of marriage, heat level 2.5 out of 5. I felt a connection to this couple, so it was filled with passion.
Romance builds slowly, no cheating, no cliffhanger, interesting and strong secondary character's that I hope will get their own stories, HEA and a tad of spice. (ljb)
The plot itself tells a simple, unfolding cat and mouse game between a powerful duke and an independent, power-shielding duke's daughter. Priscilla has secrets and Edmund wants to know them - game on! He almost catches her a few times, but she refuses to give up her freedom or her secrets to a domineering, want-to-be-husband. This chase delights with sensuality minus grossly explicit encounters. The author draws these characters well, and also introduces secondary characters in a way that makes the reader want to know them more, which hopefully means they will appear in subsequent books of the series.
While I enjoyed the humor, the poignant scenes and tender exchanges involving siblings, friends and parents brought me some tears, and an appreciation of this author's ability to elicit emotion with her words. I bet many readers wanted Priscilla's mother as their own.
I loved this read! I recommend this book to regency romance readers who like humor in character driven stories of hide-and-seek. I shall watch for further creative endeavors by this author.
Edmund, Duke of Bradenton is ready for a wife. There is only one woman who holds his interest. Priscilla. The more he pursues, the more she tries to hold off his interest. Priscilla thinks once he discovers she wrote him letters under a fake name, Edmund would surely break off his pursuit. If only they can say three words to each other it would resolve most of their problem.
Couldn't stop laughing over thoughts of throwing vases.
The first book I've read by Melanie Rose Clark is a winner!!!
I absolutely adored this story! Laugh out loud moments, especially Priscilla's thoughts, a tangled web of deceit, albet for a good cause, and a merry chase between she and Bradenton!
So very glad to have read this first in a series and cannot wait for more!! Simply delightful....
Oh I forgot to mention the swoon worthy cover!!
Such a great story! My only complaint? I feel like im missing something. Why did Lady Drummonds grandson not like Edmund? And what about Elizabeth Henley did he find so familiar? I feel like im missing something but even then it was soooo good!

That being said, the story line sagged a bit towrds 3/4th of the book. I believe the plotline should have been a bit more developed in terms of the risks Priscilla took.
That being said, the characters of Priscilla and Edmund are very endearing !
I can not wait for her friend's stories which I am sure will be awesome to read !
Romance Level : 3.7/5
