Karin Makos lives a lie. Genetically engineered from birth and raised in a scientific compound to gain unnatural powers, she has since escaped and built a new life hidden from those who created her. For her, the chance to pilot a small-time scrounging vessel to remote corners of space is the dream. After years on the run with her sister and enduring the constant paranoia of living planet-side, going off-radar gives her exactly what she wants: freedom.
In a single night, that dream is shattered.
A system-wide attack decimates humanity, and the few insubstantial clues they have point straight back into her past and the horrors it holds. Plagued by strange dreams of her sister and a sense of growing danger, Karin and the crew of the Nemina must race desperately across space to find their loved ones—and answers.
So starts The Eurynome Code, a fast-paced space opera in the same veins as Firefly, Killjoys, and Battlestar Galactica. Like strong, snarky leads, high-octane action, and twists that will keep you on the edge of your seat? Then this series is for you. Get all six books in this one omnibus!

The characters are uniformly engaging as well. There are a couple who are pretty one dimensional, but they get very little focus. The Shadows of course are one dimensional, or at least two dimensional, but even they manage some character growth arc as a species. And they are perhaps the most non-human nonhumans I’ve read. Motivations are typically complex, and while alliances can shift and perspectives change, they are deftly handled and never feel forced or artificial.
The settings are varied, as they have to be for six books, and interesting if often not thoroughly fleshed out. Most often the emphasis is on the characters rather than the setting, but some settings are detailed and function more or less as characters themselves. Where it serves the plot threads, the author does an excellent job of creating highly atmospheric settings.
In spite of the length, there were no elements which I found to be jarring, boring or mood-breaking. Overall, if one is up for six books of high fantasy/far future scifi, then I highly recommend this set.
Please, enjoy this series, especially if you ever waited outside a nightclub in the cold waiting to boogie.

The characters are sympathetic and easy to root for. The female leads and supporting characters are strong. The guys less so.
Writing the review I wanted to write would need spoilers so here is a pretty much 'spoiler free' version;
The author feeds information about the characters and their worlds steadily - no info dumps - but at a rate that stops you getting too confused or bored. Many future plot developments are hinted at as the storyline develops and revealed/explained at the appropriate times. The main protagonist's journey is the most radical in terms of character change that I've seen in a while, but each change is necessary to move the story forward and is explained clearly (and concisely :-) ) at the appropriate stage in the story.
The goodies are not 'goody goody' (one is a psychopathic super soldier assassin, but you can't help but love her) and the baddies aren't evil stereotypes. A good baddy should genuinely believe that he is a goody - doing things for all the right reasons. The storyline is so good that exactly who the goodies and baddies are can take you by surprise
We are taken through several different worlds in multiple dimensions but care is taken to justify the whats and wheres so we aren't left too confused. Much explanation and back story is in the form of dreams that the protagonist has that slowly meld into dimension hopping where what seems like a dream isn't. The military play an important role (four factions/empires) but their weaponry isn't outlandish; same with the technology - blasters and spaceships require a warming up time - no FTL engines but a few strategic 'gates' exist. The number is limited so that different parts of the human occupied space are not easy (or impossible) to just go to on demand;
A (actually the) major theme is genetic modification and this is handled well; time is taken to explore the impact on the 'recipients' of the genetic experimentation - both physical and psychological. For example the protagonist appears to be a 'human flashlight' - her sister a super-soldier assassin!
A couple of things niggled me a bit at the start - but I very soon got used to them and actually they made me smile; Interpersonal communication several centuries hence appear to revolve around eyebrows! They are raised singularly or in pairs, supported by various degrees of brow scrunching and head tipping as a response almost anything that's being said or is going on in the vicinity. Romantic relationships seem to exist at the hand holding, cuddling and kissing on the forehead (or top of the head when you boyfriend is much taller than you). Then out of the blue you can have full blown recreational sex! The latter is not at all explicit.
One warning ... the 'f-word' is used a lot in dialogue, but it isn't gratuitous; the characters use the 'f-words' that are relevant to their psychological responses to situations happening around them and so feels 'in character'.
Finally, something that seems rare in SciFi and Fantasy these days, is that the series has a proper ending. No cliffhanger to milk you of more money in a 'Neverending Story' The ending was complete and tied up the multiple strands admirably. Admittedly there are six books in the series, but the story is so complex that it needs space (no pun intended) to prevent it being confusing; the quality of writing is such that I didn't want to start skipping parts - I just enjoyed the whole journey.

Having persevered I've decided to put it on pause midway through book 5.
