Buckle up for an emotional journey of hijinks, heartache, and a hot slow-burn in this marriage-in-crisis romance about going the distance to make love last.
Aiden
I’ve spent twelve years loving Freya Bergman and twelve lifetimes won’t be enough to give her everything she deserves. She’s my passionate, tender-hearted wife, my best friend, and all I want is to make her happy. But the one thing that will make her happiest is the one thing I’m not sure I can give her: a baby.
With the pressure of providing and planning for a family, my anxiety’s at an all-time high, and I find myself pulling away, terrified to tell my wife how I’m struggling. But when Freya kicks me out, I realize that pulling back has turned into pushing too far. Now it’s the fight of a lifetime to save our marriage.
Freya
I love my cautious, hard-working husband. He’s my partner and best friend, the person I know I can count on most. Until one day I realize the man I married is nowhere to be found. Now Aiden is quiet and withdrawn, and as the months wear on, the pain of our growing distance becomes too much.
As if weathering marriage counseling wasn’t enough, we’re thrown together for an island getaway to celebrate my parents’ many years of perfect marriage while ours is on the brink of collapse. Despite my meddling siblings and a week in each other’s constant company, this trip somehow gets us working through the trouble in paradise. I just can’t help worrying, when we leave paradise and return to the real world, will trouble find us again?
Ever After Always is a marriage-in-crisis, opposites-attract romance about a sensitive, fierce-loving woman and her resilient husband who has anxiety disorder. Complete with island vacation antics, a sibling prank gone wrong, and a steamy slow burn, this standalone is the third in a series of novels about a Swedish-American family of five brothers, two sisters, and their wild adventures as they each find happily ever after.

Review
"An emotional and beautifully-written story that I will be recommending for the rest of eternity." - Nick, The Infinite Limits of Love
"This series owns my entire heart and the third book smashes it out of the park all over again. It's a rarity that 3 books deep into a romance series I will have given each book 5 stars but here we are." - LaurensPages, NetGalley reviewer
"Chloe Liese tackles the stuff of life - marriage, extended family, childhood baggage, work/life balance, sexual intimacy, deciding if/when to have a baby - and she does it with such care, such tenderness. Every word of this book, every character, is so dear and I can't wait to recommend this book to everyone I know." - Patricia, NetGalley reviewer
"It's one of those stories that just hurts so good. It tears you apart and then the redemption is twice as sweet. But even though this story is emotionally hard to read sometimes, it also was full of laughter and love and happiness, just like life can be." - Kristen, NetGalley reviewer
"Her books are just magic-they gut you in the feels, they make your heart soar, and maybe even make you cry a little but it's always so freaking good!" - Dinipanda Reads
"Chloe Liese's newest book has once again floored me. I cannot get enough of her witty banter, realistic storylines, and characters that truly come to life." - Lauren, NetGalley reviewer
"[W]hile there is trouble in paradise the thread of love that holds these people together is far from frayed. A well written, honest, engaging tale of ever lasting love." - Teri, NetGalley reviewer
"It's always hard to read about a marriage falling apart, but Chloe Liese did it in the BEST way possible - with tenderness and compassion." - E-Reader Addict
"The world that Liese has created in this series where it's okay to not be okay and where challenges of autism, anxiety, self-doubt and physical differences are not debilitating or 'less than' but just part of the fabric of what makes people human. This is a world where love and acceptance is not despite who one is but because of it." - Laura, NetGalley reviewer

About the author

Chloe writes romances reflecting her belief that everyone deserves a love story. Her stories pack a punch of heat, heart, and humor, and often feature characters who are neurodivergent like herself. When not dreaming up her next book, Chloe spends her time wandering in nature, playing soccer, and most happily at home with her family and mischievous cats.

The story follows Freya and Aiden, a married couple who have been together for over a decade. Their once-solid relationship seems to be crumbling, and things have gotten so bad that all communication has broken down. Aiden doesn’t realize that his marriage is even in jeopardy until his wife packs his bags. It’s a startling wakeup call that makes him a little desperate to put the pieces back together. But no matter how much love there is between them, there’s no fixing this marriage until all of their cards are on the table. When a family vacation forces Freya and Aiden to come together, they realize that they’ve got to put in a whole lot of work if there’s any hope of a future for them.
I loved how honest this is. It takes two people to make a marriage work, and love is not enough to keep things going. Freya and Aiden are both genuinely good people who love each other – and I’m talking about the kind of deep love that only comes from years spent getting to know someone. I felt for both of them, and I really appreciated that neither one was “at fault” for bringing them to this point. They’ve both got things they need to work on, and they’ve let those things spiral out of control, but there’s nothing that’s insurmountable. The build in intimacy is a thing of beauty, and the author does an excellent job showcasing that. There’s a subtlety that works, and I loved all of those quieter moments. It’s the kind of slow burn that’s necessary, building back up the emotional connection before things turn physical – though there are plenty of sexy moments on the way there. I was lucky enough to receive an early copy via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review of this marriage in trouble romance.
If you've come for a flighty, feel-good-only romcom, you'll be mistaken and will have to dig a little deeper into your feels with this marriage-in-crisis romance. Ever After Always brings the issues, and I mean that in the best.possible.freaking.way. If you want to read about the REALNESS of marriage after the haze of lust has worn off, this is it. I empathized with and cried for both Freya and Aiden as they dealt with their issues separately, and then together.
Chloe Liese also tackles some (even) heavier topics - anxiety, parental addiction and estrangement. It's so HARD to read about what anxiety does to your mind, body, and relationships. But, since I struggle with the same issues as Aiden, I felt seen and understood - less alone. And wow, is that an amazing thing to have. Growing up, I never saw myself accurately depicted in any books. THIS ONE. Yes! It's humbling to see yourself on the page, but also so welcoming, and I'm so here for normalizing these struggles.
Chloe Liese does her research, and it shows. From a carefully curated and mood-enducing Spotify playlist to go along with each chapter, to nods to Greek mythology, the classics, and some regency romance - she covers it all. It adds so many layers to her tender story. I adore the nod to Jane Austen's Persuasion (the best of Austen's writing, IMHO). Hurting each other emotionally, and finding a way back - ugh, ultimate SWOON!
If you love The Bromance series, this Bergman Brothers series is for you. Grown men/brothers who challenge each other emotionally, read romance novels, and cause some serious mischief? YesPlease!
If nothing else, read this book (and series) for the vulnerability, brotherly shenanigans, and a very foul mouthed parrot! You'll go from cackling-laughing, to ugly crying and will love every dang minute of it!
“At some point, every love story is a tragedy.”
This book really resonated with me. We continue to grow and change, and so does our partnerships. Relationships are hard, and they take work. This marriage in trouble book not only highlighted how we can become complacent, but also shows the hope, and work we can put in to find our happiness again.
The Bergman brothers, especially Viggo, slid into the scenes and provided some levity (with lots of laughs and smiles).
I absolutely love Chloe Liese’s approach to writing romance. She is a staunch supporter of everyone deserving a love story, and it shows brightly with every book she writes. This series has brought some of the best books I’ve read this year.
“But I love someone who’s shown me that love doesn’t give second chances because we’ve earned them. Love gives second chances because it believes the best in who we are.”

The familial relationships between the Bergmans really shone in this. They came together so perfectly to help their sister and their brother in law find their way back together. Chloe really showed how special and how much they love each other.
I enjoyed watching them fall in love with each other and learning to trust each other again. This would be a five star read if didn’t dislike the second chance romance trope. But damn if more people wrote them like Chloe Liese I’d love them.

Freya and Aiden's story is not a typical one you see in romance novels. They are a marriage in trouble and there is a lot of struggle and miscommunication. Add to that some meddling siblings, Freya's parents perfect marriage and Aiden's anxiety a lot is going on. Chloe Liese did a great job exploring anxiety and did it carefully and compassionately. I also like that Aiden seemed very aware of his anxiety and was able to talk about it, and even more Freya was supportive of Aiden in his anxiety. I really also liked how Liese normalized for individual counselling for Aiden's anxiety as well as marriage counselling for the couple.
I like how the author took time to write about people that are not typical in the romance genre, Aiden with anxiety and Freya being plus sized. Oftentimes I find that romances fit a typical niche and this one stepped a little out of the box and I found it enjoyable. The romance in the book was pretty steamy too, but not cover to cover steam, just the right amount for me.
I loved the inclusion of a playlist to listen to while reading the book and would find myself singing the songs when I was starting out a chapter as well. It really helped set the tone too! writes
I received a copy of this from NetGalley and the publisher for an open and honest review. All opinions are 100% mine.

This book was SO real. Aiden & Freya were SO real.
Marriage is HARD you'll and reading about a rough spot in a marriage is the most I have ever related to a book before.
I feel Aiden with his anxiety and fear and struggle to express himself about that. And how terrifying it is to finally open up.
I feel Freya when she says she just wants him not the money, the vacation, the fancy life.
I felt the tension that can arise from trying to conceive.
So many parts of this just hit home. I literally could not stop reading because I just wanted to cheer them on and see them through their rough patch. It's a unique perspective as a reader to be able to FEEL the love of a couple - but to have that couple be feeling so completely broken and unsure how to fix it. And beyond just a fancy date... its is WORK.
Chloe just writes romance SO differently - and I so appreciate it.
This book is going to stay with me 100% - I borrowed it through Kindle Unlimited but bought it for keeps because I have made NOTES on NOTES on NOTES in this book!!!
