Ingenious and thrilling to watch

This is a witty and totally satisfying reimagining of Cinderella, inserting the fictional character into a bit of additionally adjusted history in 16th century France. Danielle (Cinderella) is a fearless, passionate, quick-thinking, and intelligent young woman, who saves several people, including the prince, and, in the end, herself. Her relationship with the prince is built on intellectual sparring and open-mindedness that make you cheer for them throughout. Drew Barrymore and Dougray Scott are thrilling as the title couple, Anjelica Huston is exquisite as the venomous step-mother. Melanie Lynskey and Megan Dodds are compelling as the good (yes, that's a switch) and evil step-sisters, and Timothy West and Judy Parfitt are compulsively watchable as the unhappily, but well-, matched king and queen. Every secondary character, not least Patrick Godfrey as Leonardo, makes the movie soar and makes me want to watch it again and again.

Best Version of Cinderella

This is one of my favorite versions of Cinderella, besides from the Disney cartoon version (I did NOT like the recent Disney live-action version). In this Cinderella, she's much more than just some poor girl that needs to be rescued, she's a strong independent woman. This is the ideal version of Cinderella if you want little girls to believe in themselves - she wasn't rescued by anyone, even in the end, she escaped on her own after being sold; and there are no magic or fairy godmothers, which sets a more believable tone to accomplishments and dreams come true.

Best version of Cinderella, hands down

I saw this as a child when it first came out, and it's been one of my favorite movies ever since. A movie I can watch over and over again (which I have due to quarantine) and it never gets old. How can it? A grounded, realistic, and beautiful retelling of a fairytale with a STELLAR cast- that includes the handsome Dougray Scott. I'm obsessed with their love story and chemistry. I also love that Cinderella is a strong woman before it ever became a "thing" these days in Hollywood. She didn't really need him to rescue her, but she did need him to find love and to love herself. Every actor was made for their part, but I can't get enough of Dougray. He was just PERFECT for Prince Henry and really want to see him in more leading man roles again! He brought complexity to a character that was barely there in the original fairytale. You saw him transform and go through a journey, while still being flawed and learning from it. Amazing retelling, and an amazing dress! It was all matched with an exceptional score that I listen to all the time. I wish I could forget the movie each time I watch it so I can rewatch it for the first time all over again. I'm much older now, and still can't get enough of it.

One of the Best Movies of All Time

I remember when this movie first came out in theaters. I fell in love with it the first time I watched it. I ended up going back to the theater at least six times to see it again. I have never done that before or after for any movie that has come out. There is something so special about the chemistry of the Prince and Cinderella. I love how they made the story so realistic so I can day dream of meeting someone like that too one day. The witty banter that goes back and forth between the two main characters is so intelligent and I never get tired of hearing it. Cinderella saves the Prince from a lifetime of nothingness and superficiality. He saves her with his love too. They have true love for each other. It is such a beautiful movie, and Drew Barrymore is perfect as Cinderella. I can honestly say that no one else could play this role the way she did. She has an innocent charm that really gets into your heart. She makes me want to be a better person after watching how she passionately lives life no matter what the circumstances. She never pursued the Prince for ambitious reasons and actually found him arrogant, but he wins her over by making changes himself that are influenced by her and she truly falls in love with him. This has got to be my favorite movie of all time.

Def 1 of the best Cinderella movies

This version really is one of the best in a very very very long line of Cinderella movies. Drew Barrymore's British accent is pitiful, but she makes up for it in playing the part perfectly. (you will stop noticing after a while, since the movie is that good....) LoL

The rest of the cast is well-suited for each role, and the story stays true to the Heart of Cinderella - but does offer some good interpretations, some interesting twists, and of course a lot of romance for the ladies!
We've seen just about every (English language) version ever made, including several silent movies from waaay back in the day. And Ever After is about the best!! Maybe 2nd only to Cinder-Fella with Jerry Lewis...??
;^D

You will NOT be disappointed!

Drew Cinderella Barrymore

This film with Drew Barrymore is the best retelling of Cinderella Ive ever seen. It tells the story of Cinderella but in a whole different way for instance one of the step-sisters was not wicked. One of the best scenes-besides when the prince went after her to apolagize for his actions at the ball and propose to her-was when Danielle-the Cinderella in the story played by Drew Barrymore-punched the wicked sister for telling her her real mom was dead and having her fall over the bed. This is a good movie. You should get it.

This is one of my favorite movies. I showed it to my teenage daughter now it is her favorite movie too. I love the girl power it shows. Drew Barrymore is a great choice for this role because her acting style brings such a real feeling of human complexity that shows a girl she doesn’t have to be perfect to be powerful, confident and worthy of great love and respect.

I really enjoy this movie- so this review is not about the movie- the product however , is not clearly Stated that the region the blu-ray disk comes from does not play in my US blu ray player or the PlayStation where I normally watch blu rays. So disappointing! Plus, when I went to return it- it says that I have to contact the royal post and pay a return shipping fee?! In the end- not clearly labeled and such a haste and loss of money for this product.
