Shredded for 35 minutes strait feeding in stacks of 8 to 10 sheets non stop and the unit just ate it all up !
Didn't get hot or slow down so I would say it passed it's trail by fire
Although I was careful to avoid shredding more than 12 pages at a time, I found i was able to shred continuously for 45 minutes without any problem whatsoever. I stopped eventually because I was tired. I'm sure the shredder would have gone on working! So, a task that can only be characterized as exceedingly boring, became at least possible to do. I really like this shredder. The slit where one inserts paper is designed so that the shredding blades are recessed. Unlike the Fellowes shredders there does not seem to be a risk of inserting and injuring one's fingers so there is no need for the Fellowes shutoff feature. Also, with three simple controls on the top, namely auto, off and reverse, the Bonsaii shredder is a piece of cake to use. I cannot comment here on its longevity since I have only owned it for a couple of weeks. However, it is a pleasure to use. It is small and compact and moves easily on its casters so I can slide it under my desk where it takes up very little space. I had never heard of the Bonsaii company before this purchase. However, if the unit holds up over time, they have a real winner here!
It's fast, and it's taken large chunks of paper with no problems.
It's never overheated, though when I use it heavily the fan does kick on, and turns off by itself.
I have no idea how it'll last, but so far it's been great.
I spent a little more on this model to get speed and higher amount of simultaneous pages.
So far, been a good investment, it's taken everything I've fed it.
It's also got an easily-accessible physical power switch. So you can leave it on Auto, but turn the power switch off and leave it plugged in, without it vamping energy for the month at a time that it doesn't get used. This is a nice touch.
However, in reading the fine print of the instructions, they say “to maintain a durable and faultless work of the shredder, it is advised to place no more than 70% of the maximum amount of sheets to be shred at one time. The maximum amount of sheets should be used only occasionally“
Well, I did not buy it to shred 18 sheets “occasionally”, I bought it to shred 18 sheets most of the time !!
so, is this an 18 sheet shredder? NO, it is a 12.6 sheet or 13 sheet shredder
I have now been using this shredder for several months. It has concistently worked quietlty and shredded up to 20 sheets of paper at a time.
I originally rated it one star because of the above. However, it has been so excellent,.I must now change this to 4 stars.
Top international reviews
It does take up to 18 sheets but mostly we have put a dozen or so at the same time.
No need to remove staples.
Laminates need to be sandwiched in between two sheets of paper.
We also tried it on credit card great job on that too.
Bin nice and large I’d advise emptying before it gets absolutely full to avoid mess spilling out on the floor.
It comes with 1 plastic bag insert we did use that, it clips on two lugs, this does make emptying easy, but we haven’t bought more of these yet as the one has lasted.
All in all a brilliant buy and I would recommend to others who have large amounts of shredding .
That's all great but I got just under 2 years of use out of it before it started to malfunction this week.
Sadly, this has a 1 year warranty which is nowhere near what it should be guaranteed to work for; given its use as a business machine and its price. You would be better off buying a shredder for half the price (and there are many) and throwing them away every year. The shredder I had before this was quite basic handling 9 pages but it lasted 3 years until it packed up.
Buyers should be warned that a 1 year warranty means that the manufacturer is not themselves convinced you will get more than a year of use out of it.
Because of working commitments, I was unable to return the item once it was over 30 days old (over 30 day malfunction, who knows what would happen).
My intention initially was to buy a new one from the same supplier and return the old one in the new item box...but as we had 'overrun' the 30 day period, this became impossible.
When I saw the retailer was based in HongKong, I decided to cancel the replacement and buy from another more reputable supplier.
Stay clear of Bonsaii.
But... sometimes you switch it on and put the paper in and it does nothing. No shredder start up.
You check all the switches, switch it off an on again, check everything but it will not shred.
You have heard that thin paper may tell the sensor that paper is not there but that is not the case as this is many pages.
You spin it round, switch it off and on again. Put the paper in, take it out. Do this a few times more.
Boom! Suddenly it starts shredding for you again.
This is what I experience from my use of it.
Make of it what you will.
I like it when it shreds but it is picky about when it wants to do it.
I will be very grateful if you can contact me so that I can describe the problem to you.
Edit: by 31st March 2020, one of the castors fell off!!!
It arrived last weekend within 24 hours of ordering (on standard free delivery!), so on Monday I plugged in and switched on. It's very quiet; the shredded material is in small enough pieces that it would take someone an awful lot of time and patience to put them back together, and it makes a lot less dust than the previous one; the bin is big enough and easy to remove and empty.
After previous machines, I resolved to only use single sheets of 80/100 gsm (except for some payslips on 25 gsm). I experimented with 2 and 3 sheets and sensed that 18 sheets would be a big ask. Anyway, after 4 bins of waste I put it to bed and went to my own fairly pleased. Yesterday, I switched on again: after a few sheets there was a popping noise in the machine and it stopped. I checked the plug fuse and that was OK. So now it's in its box in the garage, waiting for the man from Hermes.
It never jammed even when I put in more sheets at one time than I would ever have dared trying to feed into my old shredder.
The feed slot is a little narrow along its length, it doesn’t start wide and narrow down, so can be fiddly to feed even slightly crumpled paper.
The hopper is a good size and has a window to check how full it is.
It comes with a plastic bag for the hopper which makes emptying it much easier.
All and all I am very happy so far
