4.0 out of 5 stars Heavy Heart
By Lavitaebella on April 16, 2021
I was extremely lucky and grateful that I was able to get the ARC copy of EA: Summer. I was overjoyed because I fell in love with the characters since the first book. Now that being said, with a heavy heart I had to give this book a 4 Star Rating.

***A LOT SPOILERS***

One thing that bothered me the most, is how many questions I still had at the end of this book. Now I understand that Audrey ended the book on a “happily ever after” and that she mentioned she was open to revisiting the characters from this series. Maybe a potential spin off series? But, it still left me with questions like; What became of Hell? How much did his actions at the end of the book change who he is as a person? What happened with the deal/bargain he made? What is in the future for Mack and Asher? The series lead up to them having feelings for each other but at the end of the book nothing was mentioned about them except what Mack was doing for a career. Will Mack turn Fae so she can be with Asher? Can Mortals and Fae have children now that Darklings were taken care of. What happened with Val’s sister? She showed up for all of two sentences but that’s all. What about Val’s mother? The Darken was so feared but he only had a short “moment of fame” and was completely irrelevant after that.

If I’m not mistaken, I understand Audrey was going through something while writing this book and doesn’t like to write “filler books” but as a fan of hers and how much I loved the first and second book I would’ve been completely fine if this book was a filler and she was able to give us a better ending that didn’t seem so rushed and gave us a better understanding of everything that was thrown in this book. I felt like I had major anxiety throughout this whole book and even at say 97% of the book I didn’t have any hope at all for a “fairy tale ending”. Then we got it and yes everyone was great and we knew what was to come but even Val and Summer’s ending was open ended with them “taking it slow”.

Aunt Vi. Audrey that part broke me. Devastating. I sobbed when she finally said I love you.

Ruby is honestly my most cherished character. I love her personality and feistiness. I love her relationship with Summer. I love how they are family. I love how Summer never treated her as her property. There were many moments that Ruby had tears in my eyes, either by something sentimental or something hilarious.

With all this, it may sound like I didn’t enjoy the book, and that couldn’t be further from the truth. These are just my thoughts and questions but I enjoyed the book. I just wish it didn’t give me so much anxiety and I wish I had more “happy” moments for Val and Summer. I am glad that everything worked out in the end (minus one heartbreaking death). I’m glad that someone so “evil” turned around (I think). I’m grateful for the foreshadowing because I was able to see through someone else’s nonsense. I’m also grateful for all the laughs. The characters in this series is amazing and I’m keeping my fingers crossed you will revisit this world and characters and hopefully make a spin off for Hell, Mack & Asher and continue the story for what the future has made of Val and Summer.

Overall, I still love and adore this series.
