Did Corinne Michaels write this? Nobody even died. I kid. On a serious note, though, Evermore was a fantastic re-entry to the Salvation world. It’s been a minute since I’d read any of the books and while I did remember the broad strokes, it was good to have the refresher of who everyone was and how they all connected. Gretchen and Ben’s relationship was adorable and I’m so happy we got to know their story.
I’m a sucker for a good second-chance romance, especially one that began when they were just children and their first chance at love ended before it ever really started. Gretchen and Ben had such fantastic chemistry from the beginning, from the first second they reconnected the connection they shared was palpable. They had both been damaged by the people who should have cared for them most in the past; their reunion seemed fated.
I loved both Gretchen and Ben, and how they supported one another. The damages that had been done to them by their exes was profound and watching them slowly piece each of their broken parts back together. Their love was so pure and true; it was a thing of beauty to see them rediscover and nurture it into something vital and healing.
Evermore is a novella in Corinne Michaels’ Salvation series; it would most likely be billed as book 5.5. The Salvation series is a series of two duets and a standalone, which are all interconnected. The duets must be read in order, but otherwise, the stories don’t have to be read in order. Evermore is written in dual first-person perspective, narrated by Gretchen and Ben.

*Note* Though this may be a part of the Salvation Series (which I have note read yet...boo...hiss) you can absolutely read it as a standalone and not be lost in the characters. There's crossover from each of the Salvation couples throughout that adds an additional layer of depth. Gretchen won me over from the beginning and Ben is H-O-T with a side of sweet. Left just before the altar by an absolute jackass, Gretchen is on the path to recovery. When one of her best friend's husbands offers her a chance to rebuild her career in Virginia, she takes it. And her first steps in have her come across one Ben Pryce.You can call them childhood sweethearts that never had their chance. Gretchen poured her heart out to Ben before he and his family moved away. After that heartbreak she only had her almost-husband; so her luck hasn't been very well when it comes to men. For Ben, his one true love was always Gretchen. After losing his leg...and his wife leaving because of it, he's not sure he can live up to the man she deserves. But he wants to try and Gretchen's sassy and sweet sides are his biggest weakness.I've got the rest of the Salvation series in my TBR now because these two were so sweet. Solving a mystery while rekindling their flame? Sign me UP! I loved that both of them had their own journeys of self-discovery. Ben has to overcome his sense of self-worth; that because he lost his leg he's less of a man. Gretchen doesn't see him that way at all; she sees the hero he's become. With Gretchen, she has to believe in love again, in a second chance. It's a second chance romance with a different style; it may be their second time around but its also both of their second chances at a HEA filled with love!
