Review
“Resilience is the core strength we all have but most often don't know how to access and nurture it. Life inevitably throws many obstacles and challenges our way that can easily overwhelm us. Yet it is possible to tap into resilience, and Gazelle skillfully gives us the very tools we need to do just this.” ―Sharon Salzberg, author of Lovingkindness and Real Change
“In this book, Dr. Gazelle gives you just what you need to be resilient no matter what comes your way.” ―Marshall Goldsmith, New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestselling author of Triggers, MOJO, and What Got You Here Won’t Get You There
“This is good medicine. It offers straightforward and wise ways to be kinder to yourself and caring to others.” ―Jack Kornfield, PhD, author of A Path With Heart
“We all want to help others learn, grow, and thrive, whether they are subordinates, students, patients, clients, or our children. Because of emotional contagion (direct brain to brain activation), we infect others around us with our own unconscious emotions and thoughts. Dr. Gazelle's book is a marvelous primer on the first step and major building block of helping others―renewing and sustaining ourselves. It all starts with resilience!” ―Richard Boyatzis, PhD, Distinguished University Professor, Case Western Reserve University, coauthor of the international bestseller, Primal Leadership and the new Helping People Change
“Everyday Resilience is just the right blend of depth and accessibility, helping us to embrace this essential practice. A valuable guide for these times.” ―Marc Lesser, author of Seven Practices of a Mindful Leader: Lessons From Google and a Zen Monastery Kitchen

With a background of an inspiring life story of achievement, healing, and coaching from that expertise, the author of Everyday Resilience gives hope that we can all take small but significant steps that will make our lives better. The author treats the reader with respect for their intelligence, provides valuable context, rich stories, caring and pragmatic coaching, realistic and accessible exercises, and positive habits that we can all develop. Definitely a really helpful book to get for yourself or someone you care about who could use some support.
This is a practical, well written and easily readable “how to” book which describes in detail strategies to develop and maintain resilience during these challenging times of COVID, political division, social injustice, and the economic fall out of the former three. There are many practical examples for clarity.
I particularly like the initial chapter on Cultivating Resilience and how self compassion is described as the key to resilience. Gail reminds us of the contributions of pioneers like Carl Rogers to this critical area of self acceptance.
This book has become a favorite book that I use in my practice with clients struggling with different challenges both personal and professional. Resilience is such a foundational resource in reconceptualizing those challenges.
Thanks Gail for providing coaches with an additional tool to help our clients.

What a gift this is for us during this past year with COVID!!
I purchased the book because of Dr. Gazelle's widely recognized expertise as professional coach and Harvard physician. But what captured my heart was her compassion, humanity, and encouraging message. We all have the capacity to be strong, wise and courageous---in other words--resilient!
In 8 short powerful chapters, Gazelle offered me just the right dose of science, evidence and narrative to motivate me to pause for personal reflection and engage in meaningful practice. Since I first read this book a few months ago, I've found myself returning to it frequently for my own personal benefit and for the benefit of my coaching clients!
