I am an avid reader of psychological thrillers. I read an average of 2 books per week. Usually around 95% of the time, I know what the twist and ending is going to be. This book totally caught my attention (was hooked from the very first page!) and the ending totally confused then threw me for a loop. It all made sense though at the end. Why are there no ratings for this book (it's got to be in my top 3 so far for 2019) I will read this author again!

And in this case it's the Ex-Girlfriend from Hell wreaking havoc on the guy she felt has done her wrong. It's a gripping tale with interesting characters and as the tagline suggests, it's hard to put down. As the story progresses, you'll start thinking about how it's going to end... and you'll probably be wrong.

I am an avid reader of psychological thrillers, and this one certainly had potential in the beginning...I was enjoying the pace at first, but then it all just became a mess....my biggest letdown was just not liking any of the characters...I thought that might improve as I kept reading, but it never did..I was just not involved enough with any of them to care what happened in their lives...and the ending chapters just kept getting more & more confusing... but by then, I was tired of all of them & just wanted the whole book to end. And as for the ending, it was terrible....I hate it when you read a book but in the end, the author leaves you hanging..SO FRUSTRATING! Needless to say, I was not Impressed. Will not read another of this authors books because of that.

I was going to give four stars because the story was really good, but it got confusing at the end. You really have to concentrate on who is who. And the abrupt ending leaves you hanging. Still...it was an exciting story. Just wish the ending made sense.

It was just okay for me. I thought it was without substance, both the storyline and the characters. Joel was weak, Cassie was just silly and naive to a fault and let's not even talk about Lydia and Anna. Vital parts of the story were missing. There was literally no insight as to what brought this long term relationship to what appeared to be an abrupt end...no backstory. The reader knew absolutely nothing about their relationship. The gaps created unanswered questions. There were only two characters that the reader was allowed to have insight for and that was Francesca (don't want to spoil it) and Cassie. It was surprising that the reader didn't know Joel as he was a main character. Towards the end, things were revealed, but at that point, it was too late and too much information crammed into a small section, which made it feel chaotic. Not my type of book.

I have been happily stuck on this genre for about my last 25 reads and this is one of the best. Nothing makes better psychological thriller material than girl drama - especially when love, money, and pride are included. The twist at the end will rock you. It is frightening how plausible everything in this story is - look around you, this twisted story might be happening right now, closer than you’d imagine. Highly recommended.

To put it simply, I found Joel a bit of a wally. Swanning around in his scrubs; look at me I'm a doctor. Wearing them everywhere he went, even to parties and the local coffee shop. (think of the germs!) It's a wonder he didn't have a stephoscope hanging round his neck
He was supposed to be a bit of a catch, as his exes so obviously thought, but his personality didn't come across to me one bit. I also think he treated Cassie very poorly, never defending her when the awful Lydia was putting her down, and disappearing at parties without a word.
I didn't like the twist at all, it may be my simple mind but for me it the whole scenerio was convoluted and confusing.
I never did find out what had happened in Cassie's past that was so awful, probably because in the last quarter of the book, I'd just lost interest.

So, I obviously read the best three books by McFadden and now have the rubbish. And what rubbish. I reviewed 'Do You Remember?' recently and that was one star. Same again with this. I think the author decided on "The Twist" first and then wrote around that. You can hear the editor/publisher (if she even has those?) saying "give it a twist, Love, and try and make it original, then we can use the phrases "you won't believe it" and "jaw dropping" within the tagline"........What she forgot was a decent story, letting it evolve and relying, instead, on the "jaw dropping twist" which, TBH, was utterly ridiculous and you see it coming a mile off. The difference in this book was that I didn't even like any of the characters. Every single one was annoying, and faintly stupid, and that's what happens when the author works backwards and doesn't allow the story to unfold naturally. I'm done with this author now, life is too short for bad books. I really, really want my tenner back as the last few books haven't been worth it at all. Give this a miss. Also, how fed up with these titles?....The Ex, The Ex-Husband, The Ex-Postman/Milkman/Maid/Cleaner/Housekeeper/Chauffeur, The Wife, The Ex-Wife, The First Wife, The Second Wife, The Bad Wife, The Good Wife, The Blah Wife.....it is clear that as much effort goes into these titles as the stories sometimes. We have these 99p authors banging out 4 lukewarm books a year instead of, "ah, memories", waiting for incredible and proper authors to deliver an amazing story every few years after huge research and consideration. I guess the buyers of the 99p novel tend to not read a decent novel, and 'enjoy' this disposable and forgettable style of writing. Big thumbs down. Utter nonsense. I have read better GCSE essays.

I'm a big fan of Freida McFaddens books, I've read 3 this week, but this one is the only one I couldn't give 5 stars for.
It starts off well and I was really into the story and liked the characters... then it all went a little bit crazy. The "twist" is so confusing it had me turning back the pages to find out what on earth was happening. I'm sure it all made sense in the authors mind but as a mere reader I was left stumped.
It then went on to get overly silly and farfetched and by the end I got to thinking "What went wrong, it started out so well?"
This hasn't put me off reading this authors books but hopefully the next one I read will be more like The Locked door or Want to know a secret?
