Unwillingly. Unwittingly.
But not unprovoked.
Kit Isley is everything she’s not—unstructured, untethered,
and not even a little bit careful.
It could all be so beautiful … if he wasn’t dating her best friend.
Helena must defy her heart, do the right thing, and think of others.
Until she doesn’t.

Ugh. That is what I feel about this book. I love Tarryn Fisher, and I have read the 'Love Me with Lies' series twice because I thinks he is such a great writer. Naturally, I saw this and thought it would be amazing.
Sadly, it was really a miss for me. The premise in itself was a little weird. Helena has a dream and all of a sudden she changes her whole life because of it. That is really not even believable, but we are in Book World, so I'll take it. Now, the lengths that Helena goes through for Kit, because of this dream - that is what's ridiculous. She is suddenly following him, going to his hometown, changes her relationship with her best friend, and the list goes on. That is just a bit of a stretch.
Then there's Kit, the coward. I never understand his actions. He has a track record of three girlfriends, and they're all so different. Kit is clearly never able to make up his mind. He has a tattoo about one girl, is with another, and is secretly in love with the other. What is going on? I don't think Kit even knew what he wanted. That made they're love even more not-believable. They were all just so confused.
Lastly, the ending is also weird. They introduce another man, apparently a criminal, who Helena has a brief encounter with. I don't get his purpose there. But honestly, I would have actually preferred that she got with the criminal. Kit had just annoyed me enough at that point.
It's all just very weird. I honestly don't think I would recommend. It starts off so promising, lots of angst. Then it just gets more weird and annoying.
1. Remember Tarryn hurts you
2. Don't get attached to the characters
3. Happy ever afters are over rated
4. Tarryn eats babies for breakfast
5. When you think all is well, think again
6. Tarryn doesn't do rainbows and unicorns, she does diseases and freaky fairground rides
Ready!
I had a dream once where David Beckham did some rather delicious things to me with his tongue. Wouldn't it be great if you could have an amazing dream and when you woke up it all started to become real?
Helena Conway is a beige biatch who isn't as pretty as her best friend Della.
Kit Isley, would you stop just standing there with your pretty hair blowing in the wind, looks mighty fine in a chilli pepper red chair, in suspenders and in a coat with the collar turned up.
I heeded my pep talk, I tried, honest I did, but Tarryn is an evil witch, definitely Slytherin and she lulled me into loving Kit and Helena. She made me do it with her siren's song and her fancy pants way with words.
Damn you Tarryn Fisher, I want a kitkat, an old wine cork and a box of socks and I bloody well want to go to a magic place where giant bubbles blow down Main Street.
My heart was in my mouth all the way through the book; at least there I could try to stop her from ripping it out of my chest with her bare hands and then stomping on it.
I made it to the end. I'm now on a hunt for blue crayons and David Beckham. I'm moving to Port Townsend where I will live in the old Cannery and wear lilac.
I loved this book. I just love how Tarryn Fisher uses words, sometimes like swords, sharp and hurtful; sometimes like birdsong, soft and lilting; always perfectly placed.
My highlights:
"When disloyal, seed-sowing scum buckets slept with other girls, why did women look inward to find fault in themselves?"
"I am just a muggle. A beige biatch muggle. It's a sad day in Helena land."
"The best kind of love is the love that isn't supposed to happen."
"Suddenly I know that people are what you truly need to be afraid of. People with eyes that communicate. People who can hurt you so hard you'd wish you were never born."
"I fold like wet paper. My will is soggy, and my morals smudged."
"Nothing worth finding is actually easy to find."
"I'll always find you. Even when you run."
"No one tells you that it hurts this much to be a grown-up. That people are so complicated they end up hurting each other to self preserve."
"Life is a carousel of four seasons. Unpredictable for the most part. Happy. Unhappy. Content. Searching. Mess up the order, and they still rebound at one point or another."

Helena is with Neil and Della who is with Kit is Helena's best friend. Helena is in love with Kit unbeknownst to Della. There is a chemistry between the two of them from the moment they are introduced. Helena and Della have been friends for years, but Della is a spoilt diva bitch who likes her own way and Helena floats around in the background. For me, her personality was weak, she wasn't strong enough for the story line. Kit - although I liked him, he just wasn't strong enough either, his character was neither here or there, and I think it needed to be. I wanted to slap him and tell him to pull his finger out his a--e. Neil wasn't around for long enough to judge to be honest and Muslim ?????? What was that all about, totally unnecessary and just did not need to be in this story at all !!!
This is all about their story, love, fear, uncertainty, finding yourself and dealing with what you find. I loved it. I hated it !!! It was missing sex when it desperately needed some. I do think it was well written in the format but this book was not really for me.

Helena has fallen in love with Kit. Kit is the boyfriend of Helena’s best friend Della – drama, drama, drama. This is one of those reads where there was always something in the back of my head that made me think “maaaaaaan… you should not be doing that” about the characters. I think from the beginning it’s obvious that the better fit would be for Helena and Kit to be together rather than Kit and Della. I couldn’t take to Della at all; she’s vain and has to be the centre of everyone’s universe. I felt like she kind of used Helena to make her feel better about herelf. She’s insecure and it got really grating throughout the book – although there was that one part of me that felt a smidgen of sorry for her.
The emotions are REAL in this book. I was up and down all over the place. Reading from Helena’s POV had the effect of feeling the story from her point of view, falling for Kit more and more until you’re left feeling the same way about him as Helena does. I really loved Kit. He’s imperfect and aware of it; he’s made mistakes but tries to learn from them and is a genuinely good guy at heart.
The first chapter played on my mind the whole way through the story as I kept wondering what was going to happen next for the characters. I had a bit of a book hangover with this one, I still think about it now and then but it’s the relationship between Kit and Helena, the depth of feelings and the chemistry that they had that keeps taking me back to it. I can’t wait to read more from Tarryn now after this, starting with The Opportunist.

I can gladly say I have yet to be disappointed by anything I've read by Tarryn Fisher she really is the slim shady. I read this book with both love and loathing but in a good way, it wasn't easy to put down but I forced myself between working and commuting, purely so I could reflect over what chapters I'd read, leaving me in book funk daydream but it the best possible way. I am always enraptured by the journeys she is able to take you on, she is a true artist with her thoughts and words!! If she writes it I'll read it,no doubt about it.

Totally twisted. I still don't think Kit really deserved Helena. She should of been the one he chose, especially since she was emotionally challenged.
On the other hand he just got her. As for Della, ugh! I wish Helena saw the light sooner.
