"The fact that no one knows me as well as my ex-husband, who left me for another woman, is both devastating and frightening like I’m not worthy of being known fully."
I typically don't review Tarryn's books that I buy for personal reading, I just star rate and move on. However, since I did use this book in my wedding I feel like I owe it to the story inside to give my review. The cover and title of F* Marriage is classic Tarryn, it's a gritty story about heartbreak, love, and, obviously, marriage. It's the kind of book that makes you sit back and think, a contemporary romance that isn't roses and butterflies and easy love. You see, our heroine is out for revenge against her husband and that clouds her vision, her entire world really. She misses the affection of another, she loses sight on herself, and she allows the ugly feelings inside of her to win. F* Marriage is a book based on the pitfalls of divorce and the side affects of being cheated on, it's also a story of hope and rejuvenation; it's a book I can personally say I didn't know I needed.
"I don't go by Billie anymore."
"Why not?"
"She was married to you."
Billie is an emotionally charged woman, she goes after what she wants in a way I respected, but in F* Marriage I also found myself liking the other characters too. Woods is a narcissist, he plays the game well, but something about him just was likable and felt sincere. Satcher, on the other hand, is your stereotypical best friend pining after the girl who got away, but I loved him. He's charming, self-aware, and sometimes a bit dumb, but he's so good for Billie. There are a number of other secondary characters, particularity one best friend, Jules, I really wish we'd spend more time with. Yes, there is OW and OM drama in this book, far more of it than my fellow reading friends might typically like, but as I love a good relationship triangle...or square as it may be, this hit the nail on the head for me. And yes, I rolled my eyes a few times too, Billie isn't always the smartest on her quest for revenge, she very easily steps on others and it is hard at times to like her. Being a scorned woman can change you, I know that thirst to come out on top all too well, but there's a time when you sort out what will really make you feel better and it takes Billie far longer than one might expect for her to realize that.
"Divorce isn't supposed to happen, but it does, and no one really knows how to deal with it. It frees you of one thing while imprisoning you with a thousand others. Life isn't even remotely fair."
I'll give you this, I likely enjoyed this book more than others just because I like anything Tarryn writes. I can see the flaws, this book absolutely went off track for about 40% of it, but it get's tied up and the ending I wanted was there and well, sometimes people get shafted in real life and that's what happened in this book. It's a bit more of a fun read from Tarryn Fisher and definitely more contemporary than some of her more recent releases. It's a novel that will have readers loving or hating it, the kind you have to read for yourself to decide on.
Humor and revenge came from Billie, but she was a trainwreck, honestly. You can feel her mixed emotions in her words and actions. She sees you and acknowledges you. But she doesn't know what she wants. She knows what she is supposed to want, but all she can see in front of her is revenge and getting what she came for.
"..It's not just a man I came back for. I want it all...every last thing."
F Marriage is about returning to oneself. About finding out who you are and understanding not everything that got you to that point is going to be easy or pretty. Billie returns to NY after her husband (Woods) left her for another woman. She has spent that last 2 years in the PNW and she still doesn't have her crap together. But she is returning to ruin those that ruined her first. Little does she know that a part of her past is a thing of beauty. She just has to realize it.
Her scenes with Satcher were the ones that shined. He always seemed to be at the right place at the right time. I always found myself smiling and laughing with them. With Woods, it just seemed a lie. Forced and unnatural. Why couldn't she ever see that?! Every dang character frustrated me. Some needed to grow up, some needed to fight, some needed to be honest, but they all served their purpose in Billie's rocky journey to find her happiness after divorce. Even with my frustration with each and every character, everyone played their role. My favorite part was one in which I thought was a turning point for Billie. Her blog post. It showed a woman of strength, honesty and someone who had fight in them. It spoke to me and the broken parts of me.
"We will rise, and we will build a new house, not a fortress, but a house full of natural light, surrounded by a garden of forgiveness and self-love. Welcome to FM. We're going to make it out alive. I promise."
But alas. It was not a turning point. A lot of messy actions and convoluted relationships followed and kind of took a little bit away from the story for me. Not enough to make me put the book down, but enough that I wanted to throw my kindle a few times.
Overall, the book was great but I wish I had more of an ending. More of an HEA. Yes, it's Tarryn Fisher and she doesn't write a clean or easy HEA, but the ending took me in another direction it should've never gone to in my opinion. Plus it just felt a little rushed towards the end. There didn't need to be THAT twist. There didn't need to be one decision that eventually led to the final decision. Everyone just needed to open their eyes and find their own happiness and FIGHT. Still, even with all that mixed up mess, the characters made me laugh and even shed a tear or two. What a beautiful Mess that is!

I so related to this book like I'm sure so many other women have done because this happened to me, the only difference was I didn't want my piece of scum bag back. Billie Tarrow is a women scorned and hurting. Two years away and now she's back in her home town looking for revenge and the ride this story takes us on, in trying to get that revenge is just so good.
Satcher Gable has adored Billie for ten long years, even when she was married to his best friend Woods and now she's back his hopes are raised but this story is far from straight forward in any way.
The writing was superb, the characters were everything and I instantly connected with them all, even the annoying ones. At first you are swayed to Billie's camp, then things start to happen and you are swayed a different way; your mind playing tricks on who's side or opinion you should listen to or take. Obviously full of emotions from all parties, lots of angst and different opinions going on and just when you think Billie is going down a certain path, this author takes you down a different one altogether.
I LOVED Satcher, tolerated Woods and Billie had all my sympathy because I felt her pain because I had been there and experienced some of what she had gone through.
Sometimes frustrating beyond belief, there were moments of complete despair, moments of joy and happiness; the story was witty, sarcastic and just bloody awesome in all ways. Go grab it NOW !!!!

I downloaded it off the back of reading one other Tarryn Fisher book (The Wives) and it was even better than I could have hoped!
I’m emotionally exhausted! The characters leap off the page, they feel like you know them and as a result you get carried up in the story.
I adore Stacher. I empathised with Billie and Woods needed a chastity belt - whilst reading the book these people feel like actual people not characters in a book. I was that emotionally invested in their lives my head is spinning. It was a bonus that this book is set in New York and it’s my favourite place in the whole world.
I need a lie down and a stiff drink to recover from this one......and I won’t forget the ice! 😘

I've just finished reading and i'm honestly not sure what to to write for this review. Anything i want to write would be a spoiler, and i hate those, so all i'm going to say is Tarryn doesn't write characters she writes real people with flaws and hang-ups and real emotions, none more so than Billie Tarrow.
If you've never read anything by Tarryn then you're in for a wild ride and if you have then this is Tarryn at her best. I loved it and can't wait for The Wives.
