Update: Received a replacement couple of days later.
My big critique of Volume 1 of this series was that I was not pleased with how all the FF members other than Reed were largely ignored. There is noticeable improvement in volume 2 as the Thing deals will a momentous change, Sue's responsibilities to the Old Atlanteans takes a surprising turn, and Johnny takes a stand that calls back to his selfishness in volume 1. But then you realize what's happening to the Thing and Sue is less about what it shows and reveals about their character and more in service of the larger story beats. Their stories aren't really about them, and that's a shame because the situations Hickman puts them in are worthy of development in their own right. So the characterization is better, but still lacking.
There's a strange tension throughout this book. Hickman clearly knows these characters, you can see they all have distinct personalities. But other than Reed, he's really not interested in spending a lot of time with them. Case in point: there's a wonderful scene where the family is sitting down to a meal and Reed suggests terraforming the moon. The team casually agree to the idea, and then Reed's father, Nathaniel, equally casually, calls it a terrible idea. Everyone looks at him like he just insulted Reed with an epithet, to which Nathaniel asks why is it surprising to be critical of what Reed says. To which Reed responds "How refreshing."
This is a wonderful scene, and it calls out the very real dynamic where Reed is known to be the smartest person in the room and so everyone usually just goes along with him; the implication being, as the Thing says earlier, that just because he's smart doesn't mean he's thought of everything. And this ties in perfectly with the larger story Hickman is telling about Reed. But then that's it. No reflection from Sue, no larger exploration of the family dynamic. Like the larger story, the insights into other characters doesn't lead to exploration of those characters, it's just serving what's going on with Reed.
This may not bother many people. As I said, Hickman's larger plots really kick into gear, and they're appropriately epic and engrossing. For my criticisms of characterization, Hickman is quite effective at creating emotional moments--anxious, funny, and devastating--throughout this collection. There's a reason his run is so well-regarded, and I think this volume does provide ample evidence in support of those accolades.
But I still fund it frustrating that, for a person who professes a love of the Fantastic Four, Hickman actually spends so little time with the group. Out of 400+ pages there is literally only one four-page sequence that features Reed, Sue, Ben, and Johnny together on a mission--one that is presented in medias res and, like so much, incidental to the Bigger Stories. When things change from The Fantastic Four to the Future Foundation, there is no discernible difference in tone. Other than swapping out The Human Torch for Spider-Man, everyone pretty much acts--in both physical actions and emotional relationships--the same as they did before.
This collection of "The Fantastic Four" is a good one. I just wish it actually *about* the Fantastic Four.

en el volumen 1 piensas que solo cuenta historias separadas, pero en este segundo te da la sorpresa que empieza a hilar o amarrar todas esas historias para llegar al climax de su historia.
super recomendable, excelente narrativa, y muy buen arte.
