like dragging balls across broken glass

This movie is like dragging balls across broken glass and is a very strong contender for the worse movie ever written, directed and produced. How this movie snagged an all-star cast is an unsolvable mystery. The obviously didn't read the script before they signed on, because it was written by a ten year old. We had to fast forward a lot to get through it. We want our money back.

Hobbs & Shaw = Action film MASTERPIECE, Rockstar Film with Dwayne, Jason & Idris: Update
Verified purchase
“Fast & Furious Presents Hobbs & Shaw” starring Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham & Idris Elba is an adrenaline rush and 100% fun to watch. Several times.

** Rockstar Action Film Alert **

Featuring some of the BEST Action scenes I've ever seen, the camera work is breathtakingly stunning -- sweeping aerials, in-your-face car chases and over-the-top effects had me saying "wow". Drones, helicopters, fast cars & motorcycles give you lots of epic chases, like a whirlwind. And I'm left breathless, lol.

You'll be thrilled to see that:

+ Dwayne & Jason have great chemistry re bickering with each other; their one-liners (and Ryan Reynolds, who is deadpan brilliant) are the best part of the movie. Like a buddy-cop movie, done big.

+ You'll be on the edge-of-your-seat wondering "what's next?" in this kickass, engaging film. Seriously, it grabs your attention like a rollercoaster. I love this movie.

+ Helen Mirren is perfect as Shaw's mom in jail; let's see more of her in the sequel. She was great in Excalibur and is funny in this film. Totally fits as Shaw's mom, as in 'ok That's where he gets it from'. :)

+ Idris Alba is a top-notch badass villian; he is confident & believable. Great job on the #1 song, "Even If I Die (Hobbs & Shaw) [Hybrid Remix]" by Idris Elba feat. Cypress Hill" for the chase scene; props for your song with og's CH. Idris brings his character to life because he believes in his cause and follows up with action, not words. And he's seriously intense as a super bad guy.

+ Jason brings his Transporter driving skills to life in great chase scenes. His gesture to Dwayne in the elevator was hilarious. Tough good-guy with edgy humor. Longtime fan of both leads.

+ Shaw's sister Hattie is strong & 'brings it'; she's good in her fight scenes, and is ok. Her smile after sitting in Dwayne's lap during the truck chase scene was funny. Would've liked to see someone like the tough/hot Michelle Rodriguez in this role.

+ The weakest point of the movie was the plot & dialogue scenes. One-liners with magnificent action sequences is where the film shines. The virus plotline is weak af. Hattie has to wear a machine on her back, wtf. Anytime there's more than a minute or two of talking slows the pacing.

+ Nice switching scenery to Samoa/Kauai; unexpected direction; a bit slow in parts but ultimately the action scenes light it up. Dwayne, howzit brah... mahalo for showing island culture & the aina in a pono way, honoring the ohana & koa's bravery, bussing da haoles with warrior's weapons. I lived in Hawai'i Kai for many years (miss plate lunch & Zippy's chili); great to see you put the people in a big hollywood movie; I respect you for that. Rare to see an a-list actor step up, props.

The helicopter/car chase scene near ocean cliffs is simply dynamite. The end fight teamwork shows how they finally work together. I hope Idris returns.

'Hobbs & Shaw' is a big-budget film with spectacular energy and excitement; they put a lot of work into this and it shows; A+ masterpiece action filmmaking at its best.

ps fwiw the previews don't do it justice; the movie was Much better than expected; I felt like cheering out loud at parts. A very worthy spinoff to the epic Fast & Furious franchise. Does not disappoint - bravo!

I haven't been to movie theaters for years, always just purchase new releases on Amazon Prime or other platforms.. This is one of the cheesier ones I've bought recently.

Too many cameo's by certainly funny guys. Hard to believe those two have no help from any gov agency what so ever.. MI6, CIA, US Military.. Russian Mil, the list goes on.

it's like watching dumb and dumber just fight both verbally and physically.. It was just not the right balance for me.

Dumb movie, major let down from the previews.

After watching this movie and taking time to think about it.
I have to say it was "Stupid."
The fight scenes are over choreographed and looked fake.
The dialog was lame and a lot of the catch phrases were cheezy.
And the story is predictable.
This movie should NOT have been made.
The only reason they made this movie is to milk the franchise.
I would NOT recommend buying or even renting this movie. It's just dumb.

Enticing and fun rivalry between Hobbs & Shaw wears out its welcome by being stretched overly long.
For any who might not know Hobbs & Shaw are two tough guy characters that were first introduced in the Fast & Furious franchise of films. Luke Hobbs (Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson) was introduced in the fifth installment as an ultra-strong, ultra-capable commando working for the U.S. government and that movie promised on and delivered big beat downs between Hobbs and ultra-strong, mothball-mouthed Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel). The franchise started to go bananacakes with that entry, but in a good way. At the end of the sixth movie Deckard Shaw (Brit kung fu action star Jason Statham) was briefly introduced to be the next installment's bad guy after he assassinated one of the series' main secondary characters and then Shaw gave Hobbs and the Fast & Furious crew a fantastic run for their money in Furious 7. That was also a gonzo great movie but then they turned him into an unlikely ally in FF8 which wasn't so good. Anyhoo, Hobbs & Shaw is a spin-off from this franchise teaming these two action stars who have a rivalry with each other and the exciting trailer, showcasing their rivalry in humorous fashion to quippy musical and visual beats, made this one I was really looking forward to seeing. So, did it pay off?

The Good:
> Both Statham and the Rock are very physical actors and each has their own charismatic style: the Rock is brute strength/ blunt force while Statham is fierce finesse. The movie puts these attributes to good use and while there are guns explosions aplenty much of the action is in the vein of good old-fashioned stunt fighting.
> The movie explores the families of both characters a little more but it is Hobbs' Samoan background and family that really pays off. This is also part of the bad because this feels shoe-horned into the movie to keep the "it's about family" ethos that the Fast & Furious franchise has mindfully developed. Only all of the other FF characters are kept out of the movie so while it can play in the movie as a standalone part when you set it against the rest of the franchise (again, of which this is a spin-off) then it is a little ugly.
> The trailer. Great trailer, exciting, and set us up to expect the same humorous action beats. The movie delivers on these...at points.
> Villain Brixton's crazy/ transformer-like motorcycle. There were some cool but brief moments with that. I wish that the cycle was featured more.

The Bad:
> Too much MTV type editing that takes some of the thrill out of the action sequences.
> The facial CLOSE UPS! Woah! Back that camera up!
> I'll give the movie credit for trying to create a strong, capable woman in Shaw's spy sister, Hattie (Vanessa Kirby). But, boy, there is some truth that some people don't have a lot of physical force/ power simply due to their build and she is one of those. They give her some pretty good action sequences all things considered but it was just too hard to believe that a man twice here size and probably four times her strength couldn't break some of her chokeholds.
> While the movie capitalizes on the rivalry between Hobbs & Shaw and they bicker and banter and rank on each other this goes on for almost the entire movie and wears out its welcome especially as the movie stresses how badly they are going to lose, and the world is going to lose, because they can't get along. THEY GOT ALONG IN THE LAST F&F MOVIE! That ended up turning into a major weak point for this movie.
> Idris Elba: great actor. Idris Elba in this movie: not so much. They give him action, a few measly lines, but he's just not that interesting.

And the ugly:
> Let's face it, this movie is made for teenage boys and action enthusiasts. So it works okay on that level. But let's also face the fact that a lot of younger boys will watch it. They won't learn very many good or realistic traits from these characters, and some of the language and things that Hobbs & Shaw say to rank on each other will end up turning out of kid's mouths. I will be completely fair to the film in recognizing that it is rated PG13 and parents should regard this rating. I just know that they won't. For some who would also criticize the violence of the film and would think that I should criticize that too I will simply say that the violence isn't realistic. The language, and the way kids (heck, adults!) try to hurt each other with it, is.

This movie does not merit one star. Brainless “plot”, pointless action, devoid of anything interesting. The most notable feature: liberal use of the F word doesn’t deter a PG-13 rating. Sign of the times.

Solid Action Movie w/ A Great Cast & Lots of Laughs

Idris Elba was a phenomenal villain, lots of great action sequences, good chemistry between Statham and Johnson. Kirby really surprised me as an action hero because I only know her from The Crown. She was EXCELLENT. One of the few films with a big cast of Hollywood heavy weights that didn't feel overly corny trying to shoehorn everyone in. Solid flick.

Fast and Furious Fun From Beginning To End!

I loved everything about this movie, from the script to the wonderful cast - extras and all. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Jason Statham absolutely owned this film. The acting chemistry between these two stars was so natural and made the film even more enjoyable. Also, kudos to Vanessa Kirby, who played the sister of Jason Statham's character. She really held her own against these guys.

All in all, you simply cannot go wrong with this movie.
