Helen is a workaholic and is obsessive with her life. She had lists of things to do and then lists of how to do things. It organizes her and works for her life. She is a divorce lawyer and loves helping her clients get the best deals in their divorces. This last divorce leads to a very upset man who tried to cheat his wife out of her fair share and gets extremely upset at Helen when she catches him in his cheating attempt. Even his own lawyer isn’t sure what he might do. Helen’s friends gather round to help protect her from him if he should do anything.
Meanwhile, Maddie and Dana Sue are attempting matchmaking between Helen and Erik, the chef at Sullivan’s. Neither Helen nor Erik are looking for a relationship, much less romance. However, Erik is protective of Helen and Helen isn’t immune to his looks. Helen is also thinking of having a baby and ringing it up on her own. She is just thinking about it; but her involvement with an employee of Sullivan’s, Karen, leads to her keeping Karen’s two children for several months while Karen gets her life straightened out. After keeping the kids, Helen decides she is definitely going to have a baby. Now to find the father.
The book is filled with the antics of the three women and the rest of the characters in Serenity. All the problems and hilarious events that occur in a family, occur in Serenity and the three women are usually in the middle of the excitement.
The book is a great escape into another world. Sherryl makes you want to travel to Serenity and meet the characters.
Well written, it's got a little mystery tied in with the love story. I enjoyed reading it.
Helen and Erik's relationship lacks chemistry in Feels Like Family. Because they hide it, and because of Helen's secret pregnancy plans, it feels more like friends with benefits rather than a true romance. Serenity, South Carolina takes on a soap opera like feel in Feels Like Family. Divorce, single mothers, an abusive ex-husband, a secret pregnancy, and a marriage without love become a bit too much for one small town. The realism present in all of Sherryl Woods stories is there, which I love, but it's a bit overwhelming. I would love to read about Annie and Ty. They could have a wonderful story to tell.

This book has lots of plot themes going off at the same time and so it is not just about Helen at all. The story of Karen, the single mother who is overwhelmed, is almost the main part of the book. The author fixed Karen's problems in the long-run by giving her a good man - it was sad that we couldn't see how well some single parents can do without a partner (although, as this is a romance novel I can see why she did it).
Helen's desire for pregnancy and her underhand treatment of Erik lost her a lot of sympathy for me and I just couldn't see how he could change his opinion quite so quickly and maintain his attraction in the circumstances.
In the end, this book failed the realism test a little too often for me. I just didn't find it all rang true enough to keep me completely engaged.
8 and have enjoyed every one, I can't seem to put them down till I get to the end.
