My wife told me that I really abuse my shredder without paying over time... so that's why I got this shredder oil!
This is a must have if you have a shredder that you use often and would like to keep it in shape for long time...
*** TIPS ***
✔️ If your shredder has a Reverse mode then put the oil across the opening while running in reverse mode. Make sure your shredder basket is not empty by shredding few papers first so that oil is absorbed by the shredded paper rather than on the basket.
✔️ If your shredder does not have a Reverse mode, place several pieces of paper on the shredder then while holding the top of the paper, put the oil across the paper in the mid section then turn on the shredder. This will prevent oils from dripping down too fast.
✔️ Wrap the bottom of this oil bottle with aluminum foil (see picture) so that it will catch any oil drips and you don't have to hold and touch sticky oils on the bottle.
I took the picture next to a soda can for a scale.
After some considerable use, my shredder started "binding" a little on paper, so I applied some of this oil, allowed the shredder to run for a cycle or two and found that it helped the glide of the paper being shredded, but also got rid of that "grinding" noise which I can only assume were the teeth rubbing each. An online blog I read stated that shredder oil, which is recommended over "cooking oil" for this use (not sure why people would use cooking oil, but it was covered in the blog), can prolong the life of your shredder for years to come and all at a very low, reasonable price.
Overall, if you've invested in a decent shredder for your home or office, you should definitely consider picking up some shredder oil and applying it at least monthly (if you use your shredder often) to keep the blades and inner workings lubed and at peak performance.
Only then did I learn that cross-cut shredders like the Fellowes and my dead shredder need oil for peak performance. So I purchased a bottle of Fellowes Powershred Performance Shredder Oil to not only keep it running, but also to prevent problems like diminished sheet capacity and intrusive noise during shredding-both of which my last shredder experienced during its death throes.
I oil my new shredder each time I empty my waste bin. So far, so good...my shredder's still working.
I recommend using Fellowes Performance Oil even if your shredder isn't a Fellowes model.
The only reason I don't give the product five stars is its overly secure packaging. Before using it, you must unscrew the nozzle and remove a seal from the bottle's top. Then, after replacing the nozzle, you must puncture it with a sharp object to create a hole for the oil to flow through. But that's a minor quibble at best.
The oil is supposed to be the right viscosity for the machine, it seems to do the job very well. No problems there. If I am buying a relatively expensive shredder, it only makes sense to take care of it. This oil is the solution.
The vendor described it well in the listing ad and the container was full when it arrived.

Secondly, you have to take off the screw on lid and get the seal off, which wasn't just a case of pulling it off - I had to poke a pair of scissors in the seal and cut it round. Then you have to cut a bit off the tip with a pair of scissors. Unfortunately, I clearly cut too much off so far too much oil poured out all over the top of my shredder:-/ I got round that by pouring a line of oil on a piece of paper and shredding that instead. But I will try and find another, smaller bottle for it, with a smaller hole in the spout.....
My old shredder packed up on me so I bought a better model shredder and read in the info that oiling should be part and parcel of using the shredder to make it last longer.
So now I oil the blades every time I empty the shredder.
Doing a bit of research on the internet suggested that you should take care with what oils you choose to use to lubricate because some oils are flammable.
So I choose a Fellows oil confidently because my shredder is by the same company; the bottle itself is large and it should last me for many years to come.
Looking at the ingredients it's just rapeseed oil which is available from your supermarket at a much much lower price. But the container and nozzle are just the right size for your shredder. So buy it once and refill as necessary, keeps the cost down and might keep your shredder lasting longer.
The maintenance instructions for my Amazon basics shredder say "use basic vegetable oil or shredder oil"
I wish I had saved my money and gone to the supermarket (3 Litre for $6) instead !!!
A word of caution would be to remove less of the nozzle tip than you think would be necessary as the oil is quite low viscous [runnier] and you could end up flooding the cutters which would be both messy and expensive.
It certainly seems to be keeping the blades cleaner of 'paper dust' and [perhaps] less jamming -- reversing and forwarding until clear -- but time only will tell if that translates into longer blade life and durability of the machine.
This bottle will last a long time and it's cheaper than the others. Perfect for a home office or small business. Comes in a handy rectangular bottle with a nozzle and a little cap that clicks on - a light machine oil in a handy applicator bottle is a useful thing anywhere and fits nicely on a shelf or in a drawer.
It is then i decided to read the manual and was enlightened that how important it is to keep it oiled. I wanted to go for a branded one instead of going for a cheap ones available. Was glad when I saw the Fellowes brand.
1. As this is sold by Fellowes, you know this is just right for your Fellowes shredder. Do not take a chance with the cheaper options available.
2. It was packed well and safe by Amazon.
3. Its a quite a big bottle and will last for months based on how frequent use.
4. The red cap snaps on the tip and prevents the oil from spills.
5. The performance of my shredder has increased since I used it. It is less noisy and give better performance. I now realized its a must have.
1. The tip on the bottle is sealed and will need to cut open with a scissor. You will not realize this and may accidentally cut it lower and end up spilling lot more oil when using. Make sure you just pierce the nozzle.
Overall - very glad that i purchased this. I now know how important it is to keep the shredder oiled and this one is an excellent quality. I will recommend this.
To lubricate, I personally prefer to sprinkle the oil over a sheet of A4 paper and then lay another A4 sheet on top and then feed both through the shredder at regular intervals; usually after an empty (or 2) of a medium-sized, floor-standing, home shredder. For the record, my shredder is now 13 years old and counting.
As for the product itself; no complaints here
I like the magic of having confetti size paper instead of strips cut up by this really quite efficient shredder and the ease of emptying the container is a blessing too.
