Mark Leslie would be the first person to admit he's still afraid of the monster under his bed. Most of his books explore the darker side, with a series of true ghostly tales that include SPOOKY SUDBURY, HAUNTED HOSPITALS and CREEPY CAPITALS, a few horror titles (I, DEATH, ONE HAND SCREAMING, and NOCTURNAL SCREAMS), the editor of the horror anthologies CAMPUS CHILLS, FEEL THE FEAR and SUPERNATURAL, and the lead author of the humorous paranormal action/adventure "Canadian Werewolf" series.
Proudly adopting the term "Book Nerd" for himself, Mark is most comfortable with a pen in hand, fingers on keyboard or with his nose stuck in a book.He can often be seen traveling to book events with a life-sized skeleton named Barnaby Bones.
Born in Sudbury Ontario, Mark has courted with a serious addiction to reading and writing his entire life. He has called both Ottawa, ON and Hamilton, ON home for about a decade each and currently lives in Waterloo, Ontario.
I grew up reading Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys mysteries, and looking for clues in the ordinary behavior of my friends and family. Then I graduated to the Alfred Hitchcock school of mysteries, where innocent people were often caught up in situations that were beyond their worst imaginings. That led to police procedurals, and "whodunits" and a whole slew of other figure-it-out reading.
Much as I loved solving the mysteries, I often wondered about the shadowy characters who perpetrated the crimes. The people who had gone over to the "dark side." So I decided that while I'll often write stories from the point of view of the problem-solvers, I'd also write some from the criminal's point of view as well -- they're not always who (or what) you might expect. I hope you enjoy exploring what makes these characters tick as much as I have.

I live on the soggy, windswept, rockbound coast of Oregon.
It’s a great place to read and think and write. The Pacific Ocean and the capes and the storms are stunning. Now and again, the powerlines go down and the lights go out. The internet may even disappear. However, I’m always in touch with the mythic and the fantastic, as long as I remember to open my eyes and look. The best time is when a gale is lashing the coast and the waves are reducing the rocks to tiny grains of sand.
My fantasy series, The Assassins of Harmony, is set along the coast and on up the Columbia River, not far from where I grew up. The story takes place a few centuries after the collapse of contemporary civilization. For the people in Assassins, our era is the stuff of dark legends and horrible nightmares passed down, our cities are places to be quarried for metals and building materials or to be avoided altogether, and our surviving books and journals, on the whole, whenever they are discovered, are gleefully tossed onto the nearest bonfire.
It’s completely understandable. Following a devastating apocalypse, an annihilating implosion of unimaginable proportions, a great reawakening takes place among the survivors. They turn away from science and technology. Both have failed them. They purge their ranks and their libraries and their profane ambitions. They seek only to return to the way of life before the advent of electricity, before the rise of the machine, before the steam engine, before gunpowder, and before the iron suzerainty of monotheism and masculine gods.
The practices of magic and shamanism reemerge, and the patriarchal religions are ruthlessly driven out. The goddess and the god, together with their companions, reign supreme. There is balance. Of greatest importance, the goddess’s divine Harmony, her transcendent emanation, fills and sustains her creation, elevating it far, far above the temporal plane.
There are six books in the series, with others planned. They follow the life-and-death struggle of a young magus to ensure the survival of his beloved clan against a cunning web of insurmountable threats.

Award-winning editor and author Kristine Kathryn Rusch describes Annie Reed as “one of the best writers I’ve come across in years.”
Annie’s one of the founding members of the innovative Uncollected Anthology, a quarterly series of themed urban fantasy stories that are redefining the boundaries of urban and contemporary fantasy. Annie’s short fiction has also been recognized by inclusion of her story “The Color of Guilt” in The Best Crime and Mystery Stories 2016.
A frequent contributor to the Fiction River anthologies, Annie’s also thrilled to be a part of the upcoming relaunch of Pulphouse magazine. Annie’s recent work includes the superhero origin novella “Faster,” which can be found in Hiding Behind the Cowl edited by Blaze Ward. Her novels include Pretty Little Horses, Paper Bullets, A Death in Cumberland, and the upcoming Missing in Cumberland, as well as numerous other projects she can’t wait to get to.

USA Today and Amazon #1 Bestseller M. L. “Matt” Buchman started writing on a flight south from Japan to ride his bicycle across the Australian Outback. Just part of a solo around-the-world trip that ultimately launched his writing career.
From the very beginning, his powerful female heroines insisted on putting character first, then a great adventure. He’s since written over 70 action-adventure thrillers and military romantic suspense novels. And just for the fun of it: 125+ short stories, and a fast-growing pile of read-by-author audiobooks.
Booklist says: 3x “Top 10 of the Year.” PW says: “Tom Clancy fans open to a strong female lead will clamor for more.” His fans say: “I want more now…of everything.” That his characters are even more insistent than his fans is a hoot. As a 30-year project manager with a geophysics degree who has designed and built houses, flown and jumped out of planes, and solo-sailed a 50’ ketch, he is awed by what is possible. I write in a variety of genres when it comes to fiction. My short fiction ranges from mainstream to fantasy/science fiction and several things in between! My novels are mostly inspirational fiction, except for a fantasy series I'm working on with the talented Azure Avians.
In addition to my fiction writing, my column "Laura's Look" appears weekly in the News Sun (Highlands County). In it I talk about all kinds of things, from news of the day to my family.
Look around, check things out. Hopefully you'll find something you like!
Felicia Fredlund writes in multiple genres and for both adults and young adults. Her quest is to entertain, offering her readers exciting adventures and emotional rollercoasters.
She also edits anthologies.
Her own first adventures happened through video games and later she added on computer games as well as board and card games. She studied game design and game programming, but switched over to more conventional computer science. Learning is one of her passions.
Felicia currently has two series running: a high fantasy series called Sorceress Islands and a YA science fantasy series called Shadow Courier. She has several short stories published and more are coming. She’s also working on more series as well as more volumes in her current series.
She edited Fiction River: Last Stand with Dean Wesley Smith and her story “Magic and Sacrifice” appeared in that volume. She has since appeared in several more Fiction River volumes.
Diana lives in a small suburban Colorado city a mile away from where she grew up. She loves studying magic and history and will take any opportunity to combine them into a good story. She once tried to work a spell inspired by a tale her great aunt told her and has always felt lucky that it only turned her fingers green for a week.
Diana Benedict's "Pennies for Portents" appeared in Fiction River's Alchemy & Steam anthology and the follow on novel, "Perils for Portents", is now available. You can find more information about other short stories on her website, www.dianabenedict.com.
