Kendra, Andrew, and the other survivors arrive with Lewis Hound’s chosen people at an unfamiliar planet with more questions than answers: how did they get there? Where did all of the advanced technology come from? And is this really Proxima B Centauri?
The colony ship breaks into sections and makes an emergency landing amidst a meteor shower, and Lewis Hound, Eden’s enigmatic leader, goes missing.
Despite their misgivings and the initial chaos, people soon settle into a routine in the fledgling colony. But a growing number of suspicious circumstances lead Andrew and Kendra to doubt what they’re being told, and they begin to think that there might be more dangerous predators about than the ones on four legs.
With new friends and old adversaries, they struggle to find the truth behind a growing web of deceit.
What is beyond the forbidden mountain ranges that surround the valley where they landed? And where is Lewis Hound?
Final Days: Colony is the second book in an epic new series by Jasper T. Scott and Nathan Hystad.

The book was full of mystery and intrigue, and we met several other Characters along the way, as it all led to one man, Lewis Hound, and his hope to save a core group of some of the most intelligent and specialised people on the planet.
At the opening of book 2, we learn that the Earth is undergoing a series of calamites, which is tearing the planet apart, and will result in the end of all human kind on the planet. Having reached ‘Eden’, Lewis Hound’s fabled retreat, we see events from the point of view of Andrew and Val, as the ‘Eden’ project, suddenly launches them into space, and not to Mars, or even to something as trite as other Moons in our Solar System. Hound has his sights set on Proxima B in the Proxima Centauri system.
Andrew and Val quickly meet up with the rest of the gang from Book 1, Kendra, Roland, and much to Andrew’s anger and mistrust, Tony (who he doesn’t take long in laying down the law to about his 14yr old Daughter, much to Val’s horror).
Kendra is also shocked to be reunited with her missing Sister, Carrie, who has not been ‘missing’ as such, but has been working with Hound the whole time, preparing for this project. Kendra is obviously angry, and upset at her Sister for letting her family believe that she has been missing all that time.
The Character writing is just incredible in these parts, in which we have a Sister, who has devoted her entire life to trying to find her Sibling, and as she says, her entire life, all her life’s choices have been dictated by what her Sister has done, joining the FBI, never getting married, being obsessed with finding her, the type of work she has done, in sex crimes and slave traders, and there her Sister is off having fun. The grittiness and sheer anguish that is portrayed in these scenes is so incredibly powerful. As someone who was in the Police and worked with DV and Child Abuse, I could really empathise with Kendra’s character, and it is incredibly clever, intelligent writing to be able to portray a character with this much depth. It just gives the story that extra touch of realism, sets it apart from others as something that is an exceptional read.
This level of character writing is true for each of the characters, from Andrew Miller, who is just brilliant as the veteran, desperate to look after his daughter, having thought he was going to play one role in her life, and now realising he is going to have to be a different role model. It is this level of character development that makes the story so fantastic, as there is so many layers to each of the major (and even the minor) characters. Roland is just brilliant as the hacker, who lived in a basement, and now has his whole life changed, having located Hound, and Eden, and then realising all is not what it seems. One thing that is really awesome, is that there are almost elements of ‘The Stand’, Stephen Kings masterpiece, in which there is the battle against ‘good and evil’, but with the religious overtones. Reverend Shelley Morris moves amongst the colonists spouting her religious propaganda, creating even more issues for people. Morris is herself one of the really interesting Characters in the story, her manipulative actions, powerful speeches, and ability to be in the right place at the wrong time, allow her to know a lot, and use it in ways that could have extraordinary outcomes.
The character writing is by far, one of the truly exceptional parts of this story, and gives such gritty realism to what is already a powerful, and intelligent storyline.
The story (without trying to give anything away), only gets more intriguing, and utterly fascinating, you are just completely drawn into this mystery, it is gripping, compelling reading that you just can’t put down, it is one of the best Sci-Fi thriller/mystery’s I have read all year, I literally sat and listened to the audiobook version for 6.5hrs straight as I just didn’t want to stop.
Everyone is told they are going to be put into Cryo-sleep for their journey, so the 7 decades of travel will go in an instant, and our characters go into their chambers, and are then suddenly being thrust onto the planet surface after something goes wrong on re-entry. And this is where the really good stuff begins.
The story moves between Andrew, Kendra, Val, Roland, Carrie, Tony and a few other minor Characters. Hound has disappeared when the new Colony is being set up, no one can find him, and it falls to Hound’s two Directors, Carrie (Kendra’s Sister), and Eric Keller (a guy with an attitude problem who likes to abuse his authority, and takes it out on Andrew every chance he can). The ship they came in, can kind of pull itself apart, and land, so modules that are 4 stories high, and about the size of an apartment block, each with a different purpose, land on Proxima B.
They start to set up the Colony, but this is where the mystery and intrigue, and all the fun begins.
There are so many little story lines that, again, I don’t want to put them all down and give away spoilers, but with Hound missing, the Reverend Shelley Morris starting her own Religious Cult and trying to disrupt everything, a strange mist that causes hallucinations and people to go nuts, as well as predators the size of bears, shaped like cats, that are intelligent – oh, and hungry. Andrew, Kendra, Roland, Tony and Val all try and work things out, finding new allies in a Sgt Harper, and eventually Kendra’s Sister.
This is a story that is just full-on action, literally from the very first paragraph, right the way through. Added to that, as I said earlier, it is full of mystery, intrigue, multiple story-lines and different sub-plots, making it not only a fascinating read, but absolutely enthralling and compelling, and most of all, brilliant fun – which is what you want out of a book.
I have to say to, there are a lot of stories, in which you get lots of subplots, but nothing is ever explained, and it kind of gets frustrating? (You know, just like the series ‘Lost’ on TV that confused the hell out of everyone!!), but this is not like this, as the Authors make sure that they are providing a good amount of understanding, enough to keep you wanting more, so that it is utterly captivating and compulsive reading.
This is a sensational series, and a must read for anyone who loves Dystopian, Colony Building, Mystery, Mil Sci-Fi, Space Opera, or just a really great read. The Character work is just outstanding, and drives what is an exceptional story, that I seriously can’t wait for Part 3. Don’t miss it, you will be disappointed if you do.
It’s nice to have a group of main characters that have both good and questionable traits and who can be so self-aware and self-analyzing of both their past and current behaviors and how those might affect their courses of action.
I would have given this book 5 stars, but as in the case with so many e-books, there were a number of typos and one small inconsistency with regard to Roland’s beard.

The second part of this gripping story takes us to new word, monstrous creatures that come with the lightning and rain, a cult that threatens the existence of colony, a desperate bid to survive.
