This was all right. It had some echoes of the 'World' series by this author reflected in the narrator who, true to Larson form, is the universe's ace babe magnet. This series, at least so far, doesn't go on about how huge some parts of him are.

The book has three facets. The first, and like always with Larson, the battles are the best. The second is the interpersonal both within the narrator's crew and the externals he alternatively allies with or battles. The last is the internal politics that form the most tedious and likely longest part of the book.

The ending of the book isn't a cliffhanger in the sense that the events earlier in the book aren't resolved but it is in the sense that the crew is about to set off on what may be an intriguing adventure. Meanwhile, despite this resolution, the players and stage sets from this book aren't removed from further plots. I expect we'll see them again.

I'm both glad this one has ended but also interested in the appearance of the next one.

BV Larson is one of my favorite authors and he’s to blame for many sleepless nights as I buy his new releases and then finish them the same night. The fact that this book took me the better part of a month to read says it all. It’s dull, bland and full of unlikeable characters.

I’d held out hope it would be better than the mediocre first book in this new series however it’s simply worse. Hopefully this series will die a natural death and he’ll turn back to any of his other pieces of work instead.

They have to recruit pirates and another alien species. Sadly factions and mistrust dog every activity. A good new series but still not as good as Undying Mercenary.
