My granddaughter wanted SO much to read, so I ordered this set. I did not get the earliest collections as she is now doing a bit of reading. These are perfect. The story is short and has great illustrations, so she can memorize some and get clues for hard/new words. But now she realizes the word she was about to say is not what is written! And she is so happy and proud. She reads to her little brother. I find they are of slightly varying difficulty. I sorted out the ones with fewer words and more repetition for starters and will move on to ones with longer sentences, bigger words and less repetition.
Ordered Level D for my granddaughter who just finished kindergarten. As a former curriculum specialist I was looking for leveled readers that reinforce sight words but also provide context and picture clues to help the child decode new words. I was pleasantly surprised with these books at a nominal price! The stories are as cute as can be with limited vocabulary. They give the child an opportunity for repetitive practice of the new words. I highly recommend these to provide practice at hone or during school breaks. They are probably not constructed well enough for classroom teacher use. I wax so pleased to find this set!!
Yes to this! I bought this for my nephew who has been struggling to read and he loves it. The night it came in he read two books. He felt so successful to find a look at his level. He was so excited he brought the books to school to read. He even read at school .. which he didnt like doing. I'm so happy. I will be purchasing more.
Love these books!!! My almost 5 year old has been trying to learn how to read on and off for the last year, so I’ve tried different books and methods. I’m sure she’s ready to read, so it’d happen sooner or later, but these books are so cute and funny, she gets engaged and has fun with the stories, so she’s actually reading them! I highly recommend this set as an addition to your reading tools for early readers.
If you want to encourage your child to read, these books are a good choice. No, they don't have their favorite licensed characters but what they do have is words that your child can actually read all by his or herself. They are small (both in number of pages as well as physical dimensions) paperbacks with colorful illustrations and the box contains enough books on a variety of subjects that neither you or the child should get bored of the material. That is until they're ready to move up a reading level. Great value.
I bought the level D box set for my 6 year old to read over the summertime. She will be going into 1st grade. What I love is that there are so many of these books in this set, that it really helps keep it interesting by not reading the same books over and over. The books are just the right length. She has been taking them in the car and usually reads 2-4 in each sitting. The books have the perfect amount of repetition. The stories are fun and perfect for her age. My plan is to move along to the E/F box set as soon as she has mastered the D set which should be very soon!
My 6 year old granddaughter loves these books. The words are large and the pictures (which give clues to the words) are vibrant. This is her 3rd set. Being an educator they are spot on for her reading level. Will continue to buy.
I am really impressed. My 5 year old was struggling and these books are very repetitious and helps her learn the sight words she needs. I will be buy the next level! AND there are like 25 books in there!! Plenty of variety. As soon as we got them she sat and we read 10 of them.
