David Baldacci has been writing since childhood, when his mother gave him a lined notebook in which to write down his stories. (Much later, when David thanked her for being the spark that ignited his writing career, she revealed that she'd given him the notebook to keep him quiet, "because every mom needs a break now and then.")

David published his first novel, ABSOLUTE POWER, in 1996. A feature film followed, with Clint Eastwood as its director and star. This book, The Fix, is the 3rd in the series. Do yourself a favor and start with book one, Memory Man. You won't be sorry. The main character of this series is as unique and complicated as Sherlock Holmes or Hercule Poirot.

Two events made him who he is. First, a devastating brain injury on the football field that left him with perfect recall. He remembers everything he has seen, heard or experienced in any way.

The second event, the murder of his wife and daughter now remain as vivid in his remarkable memory as the day it happened.

The writing is excellent. The plotting is excellent. The characters are believable and and well drawn. The stories are complex page turners.

Start at the beginning with Memory Man. You won't be sorry. I repeat. What's not to like?

What a blast! I guess it seems redundant for another rave review to appear for THE FIX but Having just finished it, I felt the need to exclaim just how much I enjoyed this book. I usually do not care for “Spy novels“ per se, but this novel is really a mystery thriller in disguise as a spy story. Beautifully written characters and vivid descriptions And a Whodunnit at the core of this riveting page turner. Even if you have not read the previous novels in the series, the author gives the reader just the right amount information needed in that area. This book definitely falls into the catagory of “I can’t wait to get back to the next chapter”. And speaking of chapters, they are all extremely reasonably concise and night overly long, which I appreciate.

Twists and turns but very linear in the telling of the tale. Many mysteries need the concluding monolog of the detective to wrap it up. The story is piecemeal slowly, methodically.. good story, well told, and easy to follow. I think it one Baldacci better books. I have not read all of his work so... but I damn sure will read another one.

Boy am I good at buying presents - or what! This is easily the best present I have received and I am notoriously difficult to please...
I am a long term reader of Mr Baldacci and have read most of his books. I read between 50 and 100 books per year (mix of paper and Digital!) The excitement and tension was excellent and the plot really good as I barely guessed anything - well, I did guess one of the main players but the rest of it was masterful..
The characters are all well drawn and Amos Decker is an excellent device.
Sadly, not many authors can keep this kind of quality going and many have fallen by my wayside - at this rate Mr Baldacci will never be one of them...

I was so caught up in the story I thought I was one of the crime fighters myself.

An exciting book that starts to show a more human side to the lead character. There are lots of twists and turns as the plot unfold. Just when you think you have it worked out along comes a new wrinkle. Strong characters nearly always result in good books. Fast exciting and intriguing.

This is a good story with plenty of twists and turns. The only thing I find hard to understand why all these agencies in the USA don't share or trust each other surely if they all worked together they would find life a lot better, if they cant trust each other how can they expect the rest of the world to trust them especially with this nutter in charge. I made the mistake of reading the first part of his new book what a joke,here we have a man who travels all the way to England kills 13 men throws a knife and cuts two wires to disconnect a bomb wearing a suit that stops bullets. Do us a favour Mr Baldacci and stop treating us like children.
