Through his new acquaintance, Sir David Bayley, and his grandson, Arthur, Fletcher becomes fascinated by a new form of aerial navigation.
It isn’t long, however, before he is persuaded back to the sea on a new commission, given promotion to commodore, and sent to protect Ireland from the French. Thus naval battles, Irish uprisings and rebellion, and unscrupulous methods lead to Fletcher questioning his own morals – and reckless actions could be costly!
His adventures take an even more dangerous turn as he is forced into the Baltic on a rescue mission. Despite warnings from friends, and with dangerous enemies in high places, Fletcher attempts to complete a mission where others have failed. Now he must use all his knowledge, improvisation, and the skills of his newest midshipman, to survive.
From naval battles to Baltic castles, this seventh book in the Fletcher series is filled with adventure and humour.
Praise for John Drake:
‘Broad comedy, high drama, plenty of action, a pinch of sex... the genre has room for this cheerily debunking outsider’ - Daily Mail
‘Swashbuckling adventure on the high seas doesn't get much better than this … John Drake writes beautifully, and you'll be torn between savoring the words and quickly flipping the pages. Any favorable comparison to Stevenson or Patrick O'Brian is totally justified’ - Nelson DeMille, #1 New York Times bestselling author
John Drake trained as a biochemist to post-doctorate research level before realising he was no good at science. About the author

Hallo,
First: thanks for the reviews. Every one taken seriously, even the derogatory because nobody asked me to write, and I therefore deserve whatever anyone says of me.
Second: a number of readers of my Fletcher books have asked "where is he going next?" So please note that the next Fletcher will be .... 'Fletcher and the Constitution'. That's the US Constitution, and also a US Navy ship. Both will be in peril and Fletcher will try to save them. He has American as well as British nationality.
You might also like to, try my Thief Catcher' (Georgian detective story), 'Agent of Death' (WW2 super-weapon), 'Wayfinder' (Viking Saga), or the 'Flint and Silver' trilogy which explains how Long John Siver lost his leg and why they buried the treasure (but be warned that these are for adults not children!).
Those are my latest books, but I've been making up stories ever since I spent half an hour each day walking from Wilmot Street, Bethnal Green, East London (where I lived) to the Central Foundation Boys' school. And then another half an hour each day walking back. The bus was quicker, but I walked, and my imagination ran free to make up stories because I have a fountain in my head, which never stops.
Thanks for reading this far. And I hope you like the books because I loved writing them
All best, John Drake
