Off-Label Use!! Brilliant Hoof Soaking Boot for Draft Horse!!
Reviewed in the United States on June 11, 2020
My draft horse had a sore foot, and the vet wanted me to soak his hoof 10 minutes per day. He will keep his foot in a tub of hoof soak only if I sit there the full 10 minutes holding onto his knee.
There are hoof soaking bags for horses with normal size feet, usually less than 7" in diameter. None for draft horses with hooves +8" in diameter. The disposable plastic bags for draft horses tear easily and leak well before the full 10 minutes soak is complete.
I needed a better option.
These kayak float bags are perfect. I ordered the 30 liters size, cut off the two D-rings at the bottom, and 11" at the top. My horse was able to step easily into the bag, room for his big hoof with a little to spare. I poured about a gallon of the hoof soak into the bag, and rolled/folded the top around his leg. I then secured it well with a roll of vet wrap.
The bag did not leak or tear or spill, and my draft horse's hoof was able to stay in the hoof soak for the full 10 minutes. He even walked a little in his paddock on the rubber mats to eat hay while he was soaking.
The bag showed no signs of wear, and was easily cleaned with hot water for the next use.
Hope this helps another draft horse owner, and a HUGE high five to the manufacturer. :D
