Fortitude: Scattered Stars: Conviction, Book 4 Audible Audiobook – Unabridged
An offer that no one else could match. A mission that no one else could achieve. An enemy only a few know they share....
Commodore Kira Demirci is now the commander of a small but powerful mercenary force - one of the most dangerous in the cluster of stars she now calls home. Her own actions have brought peace to the Syntactic Cluster, though, and a mercenary is in limited demand.
A mutual interest brings her into the circle of the heir to the Royal Crest, a wealthy kingdom dozens of light-years away. Jade Panosyan has a nightmare brewing - and a plan to deal with it.
In the Crest, a powerful political party beholden to Kira’s own enemies is maneuvering to remove Jade’s father before he can free a dozen star systems from the clutches of the Equilibrium Institute. If they are to fail and the Institute’s plans be thwarted once more, Jade Panosyan needs someone to complete an impossible mission. The payment? The fleet carrier Fortitude, unmatched by any ship within a hundred light-years. The catch? Kira Demirci has to capture the carrier - from the elite forces of her employer’s nation!

She has taken to tagging along on operations being conducted by her captains which upsets the balance of power on the ship as well as her associates in her group. Returning home she finds she has been invited to a party by Queen Sonia where she is presented with a very interesting proposal by someone which presents many intriguing avenues for her group. Personally I was very suspicious, it sounded too good to be true to me. Is this an elaborate plot by the Equilibrium? Is someone waiting to betray her? Raises lots of questions for me.
Once again Glynn has written an exciting fast paced book that keeps you on your toes wondering what is going to happen next and it is not always what you expect. Always a pleasure to get an advanced copy to review one of Glynn book's.
And I'll admit some of the less than positive reviews gave me pause. However, up front I'll say that many of those felt unfair. It seems that the fact that Malani never gets out of their battle armor and therefore is of unknown sex to the main character bothered some readers. But I did not see this as a major issue to the tale. Malani has been around since book 1 and remains a side character needed when Memorial Force has to conduct boarding actions, but who is otherwise not a major player.
Honestly, I was more perturbed by the coup attempts and silliness and it was a bit over the top. yet, they played out without the level of insanity some writers throw in. The entire plot was well considered and well contained. My only issue was the abrupt ending that occured, leaving it quite clear that Glynn has more planned for Kira Demerci and her merry band of mercenaries.
This is not high art. its clearly Space Opera and doesn't try to be more than that. I'd argue that Glynn has improved the tale from book 3's disappointing ending. Do not worry about the pronoun issue and enjoy a good tale.
A new contract pulls Kira and Memorial Force far from the Syntactic Cluster to again thwart the Equilibrium Institute’s plans. But can she fully trust her employer? Lots of twists and turns will keep you reading late into the night. Two twists, one obvious, one subtle, set up future storylines.
Milani fans will enjoy more page time for their favorite character. A fun read!
I received an ARC for my review and purchased my own copy to support the author.
What I did not like was that the author chose to overlay gratuitous lessons in the use of pronouns! I have read his other books, and they did not suffer from this failing! I am completely neutral about any persons sexual preference, but I find the use of plural pronouns for characters for whom their gender is known to be distracting and unnecessary. I won't be reading any more titles by this author.

I highly recommend this great addition to a fun series.
I’m very much anticipating the next in the series!
