It was great to be back in the world of starside! The saga continues, answering some questions raised earlier and setting up new adventures yet to come.

If you enjoy being immersed in another world, definitely read this book(and start at the beginning of the saga with Thief of Sparks - it will make more sense!)

I have been addictively reading Eric Kent Edstrom’s Starside Saga series ever since it’s first book. Somehow the author MagSafe’s to keep the books totally exciting, imaginative and fresh despite how how far the series had run. That’s certainly the case with Fortress of Shadow (Book 7). Things are coming to a head for Kila Sigh in this penultimate volume. The former thief girl of Starside will end up having to chose between “light, darkness, or utter annihilation” in a tale full of action, and adventure, plots and betrayal. Exciting stuff and perfectly told, this book can be read as a standalone but you’re vastly better off starting with book 1 and reading firearm from there. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book, which will be the finale of the series.

The Starside Saga is a most unusual fantasy, brimming with the most unusual characters and creatures ever assembled in a fantasy series. And fascinating.
The very beautiful cover exemplifies the unique nature of the Starside world. This powerful Vakyrie like creature is a dragnithan, a dragon possessing a female human form, able to raise wings and possessing strange powers, those of dragonfire. And not of mercusine
This being is called Yiothizandra, Yiothi for short. And with the Hargothe killed by Kila Sigh, Yiothi came to the fore to claim leadership of the race called Nosg, now freed from the slavery of the Hargothe. Yet always a force to be reckoned with, a force that Yiothi intends to use to conquer the world...for the benefit of a god called Kil.
In the process this will bring Yiothi in direct opposition to Kila, the Highest of Kil.
But Yiothi is not the only being in pursuit of Kila Sigh. At times it appears the whole world pursues her for various reasons, though mostly because of fear.
And Kila ? Kila wil have to make a choice real soon between the forces of Night, or of Day or annihilation.
Eric Edstrom is a master of the maelstrom of exotic ideas and teasing of the senses and the reader is bound to reel before this onslaught of strange and provocative fantasies expressed in this series and.in Fortress of Shadow. Do not make a mistake, Fortress of Shadow is quite a long tome in which you, the reader, will be treated to a smorgasbord of rare delights page by page, chapter by chapter. Enjoy.

This book is a wonder! Where oh where does Mr Edstrom get his inspiration? For it must be inspiration to write such a series filled with such wonder! Never have I read a series such as this. So much happens in this book of wonders that defies the imagination. The evil that threatens is bone chilling. Kila can hardly sense who is friend and who is foe if not for the sensitivity of the cats. And Mr Edstrom must know cat’s behavior well as he often comments on the ones in this book with humorous wit to make one smile even in dire circumstances. Some people love Kila and some fear her. Others want to bring her down and others want to lift her up as a god. Henley just wants to be with her. This is a rather long book with so many twists and turns to it it will keep your head spinning. A fantastic battle between the nosg and shadline was intense. And many other intense battles as a precursor to what is insinuated as the eventual takeover of the world by Yiothizandra’s baby, the god Kil. And the dragons! Dark dragons and light dragons and the lesser Wyvoks who obey the dragons. So many weird names I can’t even venture to pronounce. Where does Mr Edstrom find them all? And then there is the surprise ending. Maybe not an ending but a very BIG surprise! This is a great series you won’t want to miss. Highly recommended.

I'm an admirer of Mr. Edsrom for several years now. His writing never ceases to delight me because he is not a writer with imaginative ideas and complicated plots only, he is also a talented writer who does not lazily rely on his talent alone but he puts lots of effort and hard work behind his writing and has become a master of his craft. In The Fortress of Shadow he pours forth a torrent of beautiful writing with his characters moving forward to achieve their ends. Kila is tested to the ends of her endurance and abilities and, without the love and support of Nax, the rest of the cats and her loving friends, she would have probably lost everything and become something far worse than Yiothizandra. The final twist at the end leaves the reader suspended and unsure how the latest development will affect the rest of the story. I'm looking forward to reading more of this beautiful and well written saga.
