A middle-aged underachieving van driver, Jay, is assigned to drive an irascible senior, Harry, to a new home. Along the way they have a series of misadventures, including being picked up by a troupe of burlesque dancers led by Red, and performing an impromptu comedy act. An enlightening journey that gives both men new perspective on life.

Feel good movie

I love movies with a heartfelt message and leave me feeling good in the end. This movie speaks to the human condition of leaving our dreams behind and complying with the idea we must conform to societal norms. I loved how the characters flew as free birds in the end. A lovely message about freedom.

Had trouble separating what I know is the law from the fun of this movie

From a licensed medical professional's view, nothing the van driver did was legal, or would have been tolerated, even the ending of this film would have, at the very, very least, had him fired and blackballed.

That said, once I was able to put a couple of steps between what I know is legal, and the fun and the point of this movie, I found the characters likeable and quite lovable.

Jay's heart was in the right place, (his actions illegal. Sorry, had to say it), but the whole premise of the movie was to give our elders the respect and understanding they deserve and want.

Fun movie, a few surprises and twists, even a couple of lessons to be learned along the way.

FREE BYRD is a silly movie with an important message: senior citizens want and deserve our respect AND they deserve to have some fun along the way! Life is not over just because you’re over 70 or 75 or whatever age someone else decides is “too old” and tries to cut your wings.

Harry (Byrd) gets ousted from his home, a senior retirement facility. Jay is an under performing, middle aged actor who takes on the job to drive Harry to his new home. It’s quite the wild ride!

Jay actually steps up and takes his responsibility seriously. Harry is thrilled to be out in the real world and is looking for fun anywhere and everywhere. These two guys learn a lot about each other and themselves while traveling together. They meet and experience new and different types of people that enrich them and add much to the movie, especially the adventure with the exotic dancers!

FREE BYRD is everything an indie film of this genre should be - heartwarming, humorous and highly recommended 🍿

Simply Awful

The premise sounded like a “feel good” movie, however this was only a source of frustration. Based on a couple of good reviews, I kept expecting it to get better, but it never did. The key to any good movie is an element of conflict which finds resolution, however any attempt to develop conflict in this movie was so thinly veiled that you saw its resolution before the conflict was even presented. Acting, camera work, and character development were so horribly lacking. This was obviously made on a shoe-string budget, and it painfully shows. Btw… I rarely take the time to write a negative review, but this was worthy of providing a warning to other.

Utterly Quaint

I did not know what I was in for, but man'O'man, just what the Dr ordered! Was perpetually kept 'wondering' what was coming next, but the ballet of the quadruple plots kept me on my toes!! Not only was it a heart-warmer, it carried multilayered life messages from start to finish. Like 'calgon', it actually took me away [from the stuff outside my window] for an overdue break from this manufactured rat race. The cast was character perfect & refreshing for a delightful change; not so much plastic &/or computer-generated hype. Thank U for good old-fashioned entertainment!! Peace yawl...

A great flick about an older man and a new friend on a new adventure. Great chemistry between the two leads and a tasteful touch of burlesque thrown in.

Good watch of a realistic developing friendship.
