Ryan Reynolds being himself, plot is sub par, little liberal trash inserted here and there like toxic masculinity and gun control. Just more Hollyweird trash like all other movies lately.

Since everything coming out of Holly-weird is Trash these days… constantly being “lectured” by someone who has no idea what the real world even is about how I should feel bad about things I and no one I’ve known in my 33 years has ever done… that said… my son loves RYAN Reynolds… (I know it’s not the best movie to let my kids watch…now but he brought it to me, played the Trailer & from what I seen it was like Fortnite / GTA come to life on the Big Screen) After we watched the Trailer I was like Okay y’all can watch it before bedtime. This morning… while sitting down to Breakfast I asked how the movie panned out? His exact review (prior to me watching it, so you get 2 reviews…) “it was… not worth a 4/5 stars. There was a comment about ‘White Privilege’ that was weird I don’t know what he said that was white privilege.” With that I was like Alright let me check it out… but first I asked for an overall rating to which the response was: “Honestly I wanted to like it but for the 40 minutes I think I watched…. I fell asleep ok!”
Now, After they got to their homeschool work I sat down to see how “Woke” another movie was this year….
Overall: I see my son obviously didn’t know there was more issues than the coined term “WP”… you’ll get lots of jokes about Patriarchy? Gun Violence? Men are Stu-id…. Blah blah… nonsense. Ryan R. Of course Is the ONLY REASON I PUT UP WITH ALL THESE SHOEHORNED MESSAGES FROM PEOPLE WITH CRAZY PRIVILEGE…. Also because I love the Mariah Carey remix…
The only reason it gets a decent rating is for our guy Ryan R. But since we don’t support putting political messages in movies we would have waited for it to be Free…
I guess HW will have to learn the Hard Way… they go down preaching something they don’t even practice….

Glorious Entertainment

I saw this in the theater and I immediately bought it when it became available on Amazon. I'm sure you can find plot holes and technical issues in this movie if you nitpick it. It's a fictional movie and that's kind of the point - it's not real. This movie is about entertaining people and it does that on a big scale. There a few movies that don't follow the typical format but manage to entertain wildly (Thor Ragnarok comes to mine as one that was very entertaining but not a typical Marvel movie) and that is what Free Guy does - watch it for it's humor and entertainment value and you will not be disappointed.

Some of these reviews are downright ridiculous
Verified purchase
I'm really not the biggest fan of Ryan Reynolds: his energy, cockiness, squeaky voice, and so on..BUT I was still able to enjoy this movie for what it was.
These wannabe movie critics in the reviews are just ridiculous with their negativity and all seem like genuinely fun characters to be around. *Sarcasm*
The amount of curse words and their use was not as excessive (especially in comparison to other movies) and definitely not offensive like some of the bible thumpers here make it out to be, they're just taking/making it that way. The reviews mentioning the movie referencing things like being "woke", BLM, white privilege's, gun violence, etc are just asinine at best. The context of what their referring to is literally all relevant to the storyline and is either their false interpretations and/or speculative confirmation biases.

All of that said if you're capable of not taking everything so seriously or taking offense to every half baked theory/idea you concoct, and especially if you enjoy gaming you will more than likely enjoy this.

Mind Numbing

Ryan Reynolds plays a parody of Ryan Reynolds playing a parody of Ryan Reynolds playing a parody of Ryan Reynolds playing a parody of himself if he was a little girl playing a parody of Ryan Reynolds. Other than that it was pretty long and silly but not in a funny way. The best part was that I peed away $20.

Engaging plot but cheap dialogue
Verified purchase
The plot concept is well-done. There's an engaging balance between humor, action, and drama plus a little romance thrown in. A steady stream of swearing and other off comments cheapen the experience, and the constant use of "God" as the best interjection the writers could include was poor. Sadly, I wouldn't watch again due to the extra, yet unnecessary, swearing, misuse of "God," and crude sexual comments. (Not family-friendly...too bad...the plot was very good and well-thought-out)

I, too, fall hopelessly in love with video game pixel people, Millie
Verified purchase
Purchased this movie almost without knowing anything about it except Ryan Reynolds and some sort of 'real life lady falls for self-aware NPC' and bruh that's all I needed to get me to watch it. I expected it to be funny and silly and maybe a bit cheesy but dear LORD I didn't expect to wake half my household up at 4AM because I was laughing so hard at a Certain semi-meta Spoilery Moment near the end. God I just, I literally had tears in my eyes from laughter *and* heartfelt moments. I wasn't expecting the heart and feels and good story and ahhhh just buy it.

It's so worth it, for any gamer. I don't stream or watch streams, so the streamers/streamer jokes fell.. well, not flat? But just kinda like, smaller laughs? But I LOVE rpg games, choice-y games, bioware games, games that let me fall in love with the pixel people, and this movie has honestly been one of the, if not THE, best representation of video games in movies ever.

I don't know how to explain it? It's just, despite streaming's popularity, it's really nOT that interesting to me to just watch people play games, especially actors in a movie, but this movie did it spectacularly.

A++ cast, amazing plot, I literally haven't laughed this much at a movie ever, except mayyybe thor ragnarok.

A wonderful, lighthearted, well-done comedy of a story with enough heart to make it one of my new favorite movies.

Ryan Reynolds is amazing. If you know literally nothing about programming, video games, or are willing to get a lobotomy beforehand, you will enjoy this. That said, I do, theres a million plot holes, nothing really references or works like games besides references like the portal gun, overwatch medkits, etc. The plot is fairly basic, and the movie, and Ryan, if you read this, I'm sorry, but it is SO LONG. I'm not saying Green Lantern was better, but if the CGI wasn't so bad, it would have been.
