It's an excellent film about the sometimes strained relationships between mothers and daughters, and coming of age. That alone makes it timeless. This movie captivated me and made me want to run away with the carnival when I was 14. It also created a life long Mare Winningham fan. This was the first film I'd ever seen her in. For those of you that have only heard Mare sing in the film "Georgia", you are in for something really special. Some beautiful Janis Ian covers are sprinkled throughout, and Mare sings them amazingly!
