Stephanie Plum returns to hunt down a new kind of criminal operating out of Trenton in the 28th book in the wildly popular series by number one New York Times best-selling author Janet Evanovich.
When Stephanie Plum is woken up in the middle of the night by the sound of footsteps in her apartment, she wishes she didn’t keep her gun in the cookie jar in her kitchen. And when she finds out the intruder is fellow apprehension agent Diesel, six feet of hard muscle and bad attitude who she hasn’t seen in more than two years, she still thinks the gun might come in handy.
Turns out Diesel and Stephanie are on the trail of the same fugitive: Oswald Wednesday, an international computer hacker as brilliant as he is ruthless. Stephanie may not be the most technologically savvy sleuth, but she more than makes up for that with her dogged determination, her understanding of human nature, and her willingness to do just about anything to bring a fugitive to justice. Unsure if Diesel is her partner or her competition in this case, she’ll need to watch her back every step of the way as she sets the stage to draw Wednesday out from behind his computer and into the real world.

That is ALL of the books.....The first 8 were a joy. The last 20, she has called it in. I don't even remember how this one ends and I bought it and read it all from midnight to 4:30 am....
I don't know where all of these good reviews are coming from. Maybe because the books were free. I pd. $14.99 and I'm bitter. Not really, but I am serious about the 1 star rating. Those who gave this one high marks must not have read the REAL ones. 1 - 8 were magnificent.
* Edit again....I do not understand this rating. Did I read a different book? Did they?
*Edit again.....seriously? Someone PLEASE tell me why they thought this book was worthy of this rating.
Edit x 3....how many 5 star friends does Janet have?
1) The storyline was interesting and not entirely over the top.
2) Less slapstick and more substance in the writing as it related to the plot.
3) Lula and Grandma were less annoying than some books
The cons:
1) The pacing was slow
2) Lacked the witty dialogue and humor of some of her other books. All the characters felt depressed and dull.
3) Her relationship/interaction with Morelli was flat. It not sexy, not funny, not annoying. Nothing. Diesel summed it up best. Tedious.
4) Ranger doesn't even show up until Chapter Twelve, and then it is lackluster. He's mostly just there to advance the story by providing something Stephanie needs. No heat, no sexy moments. One almost touching moment, but even that falls flat.
5) All the same gags, but somewhat subdued. Destroyed cars, Lula antics - clothes too small, obsession with food, mother tippling, father shoveling food into his mouth at the table, viewings.
6) Even the interaction with Diesel lacked interest.
7) The ending caused pain to shoot behind my eyeball, probably because I had spent money and wasted time on this completely uninspired book.
At least Wulf shows up for about a nanosecond, so I can only hope the reintroduction of Diesel and Wulf means there might be another Wicked book coming out down the line. That would be the only good thing coming out of this disappointing read. I keep saying I'm done with these books, and I keep getting sucked back in hoping for the magic. Sadly this one might have finally convinced me it's time to move on.

Over the years it's like catching up with old friends.
Love the books that Janet Evanovich writes.
