Hard to believe one of the things I do adore about classic animation is just the way it continues to make me laugh. Back in the 80's, there were just so many different cartoons that were memorable from Ducktales, the Muppet Babies and Smurfs. But when it came down the comics from the time, no one did it any better than the great Jim Davis and his creation of Garfield. Garfield definitely still is today most loved comic strip, and one that continues to shine nicely. Back in the 80's though there were so many different cartoons with Garfield that worked well, and even launched one of the more enjoyable Saturday Morning Cartoons with Garfield & Friends from 1988-1995. Now there is a cavalcade of Garfield Specials on Amazon, and let me say they are mixed at the end.
Garfield Specials consists of several of the classic Garfield specials from the 80's. Some of them are memorable and some are easily forgotten about with time. The collection does include some of the classics, but leaves out others that were bigger watermarks on the furry feline ad his goofy-slobbering companion, Odie. Some of the specials were absolutely wonderful to watch with time like Garfield Goes Hollywood and Garfield In Paradise. But others on the compilation have been more forgotten with time like the detective noir Garfield's Babes & Bullets, and Garfield & HIs 9 Lives. The compilation is still a nice trip back in time to watch, but I still cannot help but think of the other memorable Garfield specials that were not included here like Garfield On The Town which won a Emmy in 1983, and the debut cartoon performance of Garfield with 1979's Here Comes Garfield. Overall, what I still liked was here, but felt there was more that could've been enjoyed in the package.
Garfield is still a loveable comic strip today, but also fun to watch still today with his classic cartoons and the recent The Garfield Show from the 2000's. Still, I did get a few good laughs out of the Garfield Specials, but just wanted a little bit more to recommend for his hardest core fans like the Garfield Halloween Adventure and Garfield Christmas special. I would still recommend this compilation for new fans of Garfield, but it could've had a bit more catnip to muster at the end.
