Enhance your purchase
Marion Zimmer Bradley’s Darkover remains one of the longest-running and best-loved series of all time, one that has touched the hearts and fired the imaginations of generations of readers. Now Darkover comes alive as never before in the hands of talented authors, many of whom found inspiration for their own careers in the world of the Bloody Sun. On a wondrous planet of telepaths and swordsmen, non-humans and ancient mysteries, a technologically advanced, star-faring civilization comes into inevitable conflict with one that has pursued psychic gifts and turned away from weapons of mass destruction. Darkover offers many gifts, asked for and unexpected. Those who come here, ignorant of what they will find, discover gifts outside themselves and within themselves. The door to Darkover’s magic swings both ways, however, and many a visitor leaves the people he encounters equally transformed. This anthology includes stories by Robin Wayne Bailey, Jane M. H. Bigelow, Barb Caffrey, Margaret L. Carter, Rosemary Edghill & Rebecca Fox, Jeremy Erman, Leslie Fish, Shariann Lewitt, Deborah Millitello, Ty Nolan, Diana L. Paxson, and Marella Sands.

Not bad. I at least liked all of the stories, and some I really liked. I only wish they had more funding to whatever they need to get some more polished authors. Ross is almost as good of an editor as MZB, and I started reading MZB when my mom had to cosign so I could get the subscription to the fantasy magazine. I like Ross as an author too (I have older editions of ther books) but that does not mean you can be an editor, and polish as a editor only comes with experience and time....and she is a good editor now. So if you like Darkover anthologies you should like this.

I have been a Darkover reader for 30 years. This latest anthology is superb, and Deborah Ross does such a great job of editing. She is also a wonderful Darkover author in her own right. It is wonderful to see that since Marion Zimmer Bradley's passing the impact of Darkover has not waned. That wonderful world is still out there tantalizing our imagination.

This anthology of stories about the world of failover was fun to read. I enjoyed the stories that emphasized the conflict between Terra and the seemingly medieval world they had rediscovered. Shoot, I enjoyed them all.

Just as Darkover is a gift given to us from MZB, so is this anthology a gift to help us get to know more about this beloved world and it's people. Thank you Deborah and all of you for carrying on Marion's legacy.

Mixed bag...Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 24, 2020
Some decent stories, of the darkover i like, some rather silly, and some simply bad; unstructured projections of nebulous feelings of gender-dislocation...it is weird how darkover has become an arena of trying on various gender configurations, with the chiery, the terrans, the renunciates and the comyn...cheap text, not much substance...hardly worth the time it took to read this...
