5.0 out of 5 starsBest Neck Reading Light
Reviewed in the United States on January 18, 2020
This is the 3rd neck reading light (other two are different) I've had. The Glocusent is BY FAR the nicest. First, when you put it around your neck, it's practically weightless. The other two had two double A batteries that sat on the back of my neck. Also, the way the arms lay, they automatically light up what I'm working on (I knit). At first I thought the arms were short & wouldn't be bright enough to reach where I hold my knitting. But that's not the case. The lighting is excellent. I like that the arms are short as one of my other lights has long arms & it's a pain to bend them up to light my knitting where I hold my work. And the others somehow shift as I'm knitting. These don't. I like that they are rechargeable. The adapter is a 'C', just like my Android phone which is handy. It comes with a cord. I use my own plug in adapter. I am so pleasantly surprised by these, I'm going to buy a back up & two more for my knitting friends as gifts. I can't get over the quality of the illumination. I can't comment on the battery life yet as this is the first time I'm using these. I wanted to get a review out right away. You will be happy with these. They look & feel well made. There is a small user manual. It explains the 3 lighting options. It says battery working time is 6-80 hours depending on mode & brightness. My husband likes to watch TV in our theater with no lights on. These are a lifesaver in that I can get knitting done in the dark. This light seems to concentrate the light so as not to be a bother to others nearby. Will test that when I get home & in the theater. Overall. I love this neck light. It's the nicest I've seen.

I absolutely loved this light until I went to charge it! It caught on fire less than an hour after plugged in! Luckily there was someone in the next room when the light caught fire on the kitchen counter, and thank God it was on a granite countertop and not on a soft flammable area! I’ve never had a problem with any chargeable device until this. The stench is still lingering in my house as I type this. Very frightened and disappointed.

2.0 out of 5 stars Non-standard "USB" charging connection-doesn't fit USB-C
Reviewed in the United States on March 3, 2020
Color: GrayVerified Purchase
I bought this device for an international trip and it worked wonderfully. The independent lights adjust nicely and I really liked the feature of variable brightness levels. It folded nicely to fit in my backpack and is lightweight.

HOWEVER, the description says that it charges on a USB-C port. This is not true. Most of my devices are USB-C, so I have a number of cables, most of which are OEM (not after-market). NONE of my USB-C cables worked on this device! I had to use the cable that came with the device. This seems to me to be a gimmick to make you buy an overpriced non-standard cable in the future whenever the original wears out or you lose it.

I thought we'd gotten beyond proprietary charging connections, but apparently these guys haven't gotten the word.

Addition to the original review:

I got an e-mail from the manufacturer after my first review. E-mail (partial), grammar errors and all:

====================================================================
I am reaching out to handle this for you and hope i am able to win a review delete or update,no matter if you already returned it or not or they have been trashed, please kindly read 3 solutions for you at the bottom of this email

solution 1---->>in case you received defective items,if you like,we can ship you a new set as replacement for free ,I will need your current shipping address to post them (no need to return the old items you purchased, absolutely free we will pay all the fees including shipping cost)

solution 2---->>in case you are too busy to return them for a refund or missed the return window,if you prefer (no need to return items you purchased),I can issue a full refund to your order through Amazon which the refund will go back to same credit card used to purchase them (you may need to wait about 3 business days before refund hit your account) or we can provide a same value of your purchase saying 19USD amazon gift card codes as refund which we can send over within a an hour after getting your reply

solution 3---->>if you already returned them and you have no need for the same item as replacement recently,we can provide a 10USD Amazon gift card codes as compensation(codes could be sent over within an hour after getting your reply )
==================================================================

The item isn't defective - it's intentionally NON STANDARD. It charges, just not with a USB-C charging cable. I could have gotten my money back on this item, but my sense of integrity wouldn't let me. I'm leaving my original review untouched and posting this as additional information for anyone persistent enough to read this far.

To the seller - if you make a good product with honest descriptions, you won't need "3 solutions" to lukewarm reviews.

1.0 out of 5 stars Love it [updated]--but lights shut off after about 10 min
Reviewed in the United States on September 13, 2020
Color: Lake BlueVerified Purchase
The first one I bought had this problem. I returned it and ordered another. Now the new one is doing the same thing. Just press the buttons again and the lights come back on. Actually I think I will keep it because I like it so much, I'll just tolerate the sudden lights-out.

But there's some quality control problem here. With anything made in China I expect inconsistent workmanship, which is why I thought I got a bad one and would order another. This company is located in Colorado but probably the product is not made there. Two bad ones in a row, what a waste of material to make things with such poor consistency. Otherwise it is well designed and seems put together with precision.

It is a great reading light--my eyes feel 20 years younger!

LATER - NOT WORKING AT ALL
The second one has the same problem but worse, lights do not stay on for more than a couple minutes once it has been on for a few minutes. Something overheating? I was willing to put up with 10 min re-sets (the first one went off, both bulbs, every 10 min or so) but this is unusable. And two in a row, different colors, with the same problem---serious quality control issues here. Returns are "easy" but still shoddy products are insulting and inconvenient.
I see criticisms from others that the thing is heavy. doesn't stay put on neck if you move around, and generates heat. All true. I loved the bright light right on my book, and was willing to overlook these things but now it just plain doesn't work.

These arrived on Feb 4. They really impressed me with how bright the light was and how lightweight they were, I WAS definitely happy with my purchase. 10 DAYS LATER THEY STOPPED WORKING. Although fully charged and turned on the highest setting, they don’t shine out more than a few inches away from the light. I am not happy that I wasted my money on these.

2.0 out of 5 stars Won't charge with USB-C charger, only with included cable.
Reviewed in the United States on June 21, 2020

The good part: as a light this device works well. It has three brightness levels and three color levels. All work well.

The bad news: I have migrated to USB-C chargers and bought this device specifically because it was advertised as USB Type-C. However, I tried multiple OEM certified USB-C chargers and USB-C to USB-C cables; when plugged in, none of these would power the device (see video/photos). The device comes with an included cable which appears to be USB-C on one end, but actually plugs into a USB-A charger on the other end. This included cable is the only thing that would successfully charge the device.

If you are choosing this model because it is USB-C, then don't. It will not work with normal USB chargers and cables, and will require you to travel with a USB-A wall charger in order to accommodate the included cable. If you don't mind using a USB-A charger, this device will likely work well for you with the included proprietary cable.

In the end, I tried three of these neck reading lights: Frishare, Glocusent (this one), and Vekkia. Of those three, I'm keeping the Vekkia.

The Frishare one is relatively light weight, the lights work well as advertised, and it comes with a nice hardened case, which is really it's primary benefit. However, the rubber arms are thicker than other models and it is a bit bulkier. Moreover, when you bend the flexible arms I immediately could see the rubber pull off of the battery casing, making the wiring visible (see photo).

As noted above, I tried the Glocusent. It worked well but had two main problems. It is less flexible with a bigger battery pack in the back, and it doesn't work with USB-C chargers (see above).

In the end I settled for the Vekkia neck light. It is light weight with thinner arms than the Frishare. Admittedly all of them are cheap lights, but the Vekkia appears better made at first glance, given that the Frishare had exposed wires. The Vekkia charged fine with my own USB-C to micro-USB cables. The lowest brightness setting on the Vekkia is also lower than the Frishare or Glocusent, meaning you have the option of less light when your spouse is sleeping.

1.0 out of 5 stars Does not stay on neck
Reviewed in the United States on February 25, 2020
Color: GrayVerified Purchase
If you’re stationary it may work for you. I got it to wear when I’m out back with my dogs at night so I could pick up the poops. I like the fact that I can change the light setting from dim to bright and warm to white. The warmer light is less likely to disturb neighboring windows. Unfortunately, it would not stay around my neck. The arms are not as flexible as some other available models and the part that is supposed to be stationary around my neck is quite large and heavier than I expected.

The product came in an open box, which didn't catch my attention until now that I see that it does not work at all and I wonder if I got a refurbished device or a faulty one.
It won't charge, the charging light never changes from red to blue/green whatever color that is supposed to have when is fully charged. I have tried with the original cable it came with and many others, as well as directly with the computer or at the wall. It just won't charge.
Once I unplug it, regardless if it was connected to the charger one or 10 hours, the lights just won't come off. The only way the lights will come on is if I have the device charging, which makes it totally useless.

The product was shipped to Costa Rica, so I can't even ask for a new one.
What a waste of money, very disappointed with this.
