Gone Bamboo Kindle Edition
CIA-trained assassin Henry Denard is looking for the good life when he retires with his wife, Frances, to the Caribbean. He may have botched his last job a little--allowed Donnie Wicks, the guy Jimmy Pazz hired him to kill, to escape with his life--but Henry and Frances are determined to take it easy.
That is until Donnie agrees to testify against Jimmy Pazz, and gets relocated by the Federal Witness Protection Program to Saint Martin as well. Now Jimmy Pazz is after both men--the mobster, and the man who was supposed to kill him--and things in Henry's paradise are about to get a lot more complicated.
Written in Anthony Bourdain's signature style-raucous, funny, a bit vicious, and always fun-Gone Bamboo is a feast of murder, hitmen, and the hitwomen they love.
From Kirkus Reviews
A mystery in which plot takes a backseat to colorful characters and witty dialogue...Readers...who enjoy meeting interesting, quirky characters and listening to sharp dialogue will be pleased.-- "Booklist"
Bourdain serves up a delectable concoction sure to appeal.-- "Denver Post"
This rowdy beach story about an over-the-hill hit man and a retired Mafioso is charmingly narrated by Chris Patton, who lends subtle characterizations to most of the main players. To his credit, Patton doesn't fall into the trap of making the gangsters sound like The Sopranos.-- "AudioFile"
With another antic tale, Bourdain establishes himself as a new master of the wiseass crime comedy...A potentially routine mob caper is brought to life by tight plotting, appealing characters and a stylish mix of irony, snappy dialogue and amoral verve.-- "Publishers Weekly" --This text refers to an alternate kindle_edition edition.

When Henry is paid to carry out a hit on Mafia Boss, Charles "Charlie Wagons" Iannello, by one of his croonies, Henry agrees. When the hit doesn't quite go to plan Henry is in for a big surprise when one year later his tropical hideaway is under siege by an ill tempered Irish Man, a transvestite gangster, numerous US Marshalls and the man he was supposed to hit in the first place.....
Best read on a sizzling beach holiday, extrememly well written and thouroughly enjoyable. As the author himself urges you to do when you get bored, "...have another beer, take a dip...have sex...read another chapter. And please. Get sand between the pages".
