Baby Bear shares special moments with all the important people in his life. With Momma, he gets to spend time in the garden, picnicking and planting butterfly bushes. With Daddy, he spends time on the farm, helping to fix the tractor and dig holes for planting. With Big Brother, he goes to the beach where they sail kites and chase each other on the sand. Aunt Grace takes him to the aquarium and answers all his questions, while Uncle Roy shows him how to be a clown. And it's always a special day when Nana comes to visit. But while each day's activity and companion may be different, the routine at the end is always the same. Baby Bear is tucked into bed with a reading from a special book and always with a honey oatmeal raisin cookie. Having been involved in education for more than 30 years, Dr. Michael Shoulders travels extensively, visiting schools and speaking at conferences across the country. In addition to authoring the companion title, Say Daddy!, he has written several books for Sleeping Bear Press, including G is for Gladiator: An Ancient Rome Alphabet. Mike lives in Clarksville, Tennessee. A Rhode Island School of Design graduate, Teri Weidner has illustrated more than a dozen children's books. She works in watercolor, colored pencil, and a little of whatever else happens to be on her desk at the time. Teri lives in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

PreSchool-K—Five family members take turns spending a busy day with toddler Baby Bear and then tuck him in for the night by reading him one of his favorite books. They make notes in a diary to commemorate what they did with the little cub: he watched butterflies with Momma, gardened with Daddy, chased crabs with Brother, went to the aquarium with Aunt Grace, and did magic tricks with Uncle Roy. All of them love Baby Bear "more than they love honey oatmeal raisin cookies," a statement repeated throughout. This cozy day-in-the life flows well with Weidner's watercolor and colored-pencil pictures of these anthropomorphic brown bears. The pastel palette and simple details, like a hovering butterfly, are pretty and soothing. About the Author

Michael Shoulders has worked in the field of education for over thirty years. He is the author of several alphabet and counting books. He lives in Clarksville, Tennessee.

Teri Weidner got her big break working for CRICKET magazine in 1989, and since then has illustrated more than twenty children's books. She lives in New Hampshire.

Mike spent his childhood traveling in an army family to Fort Knox, KY, Fort Chaffee, AR, two visits to Germany, and Fort Campbell, KY. Mike graduated from Northwest High School (Clarksville, TN) in 1972 and earned a degree in education from Austin Peay State University (Clarksville, TN) in 1976. He taught for 14 years and then worked as an instructional supervisor until 2005. Mike earned his doctoral degree from Tennessee State University (Nashville, TN) in 2004.
Mike married Debbie Adams in 1974. They have three grown children: Jason, Ryan and Meghann. They have a standard poodle named Maggie, cat named Audrey, and a hedgehog named Dezi.
Mike attended the Governor's Academy for Teachers of Writing in 1995. He was bitten by the writing bug and has written for publication ever since! In 1997 he created a column called "Story Time" for Tennessee's oldest paper, The Clarksville Leaf-Chronicle. In that weekly column, Mike reviewed children's literature, with an educator's slant. The column continues today, but, because of a demanding traveling schedule, his wife took over the column in 2003.
Mike visits nearly one hundred schools each year spreading his message that "Reading IS Magic."

Amazing Bedtime Story!!

My kids love this book. It is their go to bedtime story. The rhythm of the story helps put them to sleep. I think the storyline about family love helps them fall asleep feeling safe and loved.
