Clean it up and you have a better Movie

A young attractive black singer/Christian turns his back on the teachings of Jesus; when he becomes very angry with his father. Many years later, the son returns to find many changes in the congregation that he once attended. With his childhood friend creating a "new vision" for the church; family adversity; career; and a relationship that puts the young man into a whirlwind chaos. The successful singer is desperately seeking life's answers for common world problems. Will he find the answers In a bottle of liquor or talk to the all-knowing and true God; for help.
I liked the story but the beginning of the movie: there are women dressed in scanty attire and it is a very long scene: I HATE IT!!! On one scene, there is a nude portrait of a woman, showing her bare skin and below the lower back and I hate it!!! There is one scene where the singer is in bed with a woman, that is bad to watch. I am grateful there was no nudity or sex shown. The gospel music that was sung by Boris Kodjoe (he played in "Madea's Family Reunion" movie) sang okay but this movie reminded me of a musical. I liked Senyo Amoaku in the "Brother White" movie, better gospel music, then, I wouldn't have mind listening to more.

Undeveloped Storyline

I saw this movie when it first came out several years ago and I had to see it again today to determine if my original opinion of the movie had changed. The music is very good.. The plot, however, is muddled, undefined and undeveloped. If this is the modern day retelling of the Prodigal Son, all the characters should be clearly defined. We know who the father, the prodigal son and the "son" who remained at home are. But who are all the others?.What is their role in the movie? The storyline, the characters, the subplots are murky and unclear.

The Gospel rocks the house

"The Gospel" is a marvelous film where gospel music has churchgoers singing, clapping, and dancing in the aisles. Gospel megastar, Kirk Franklin served as the music director using his songs. Other famous Gospel singers as Donnie McClurkin and Hezekiah Walker have acting roles. Fred Hammond and Yolanda Adams appear as themselves. If you aren't familiar with these gospel singers, please look for them in the Amazon music department. I also suggest buying the DVD of the film. The plot concerns. David Taylor (Boris Kodjoe}, in his role as an idolized hip-hop superstar, who visits his ailing father after many years as the prodigal son.His father is the a church that is falling on hard times. David has the connections in the music industry to hold a huge fundraising concert that can build a new church with a solid foundation. He also gives new life to the music, choir, and churchgoers as donations roll in. In opposition is the Rev. Charles Frank (Idris Elba) who is slotted to become the new pastor. Charles and David, who were once good friends in their younger days turn against each other like Cain and Abel.Frank argues David's participation in church business matters particularly after the demise of David's father. However, the concert is a huge success which further angers the new Rev. Charles. If for anything else, rock on with the pulsating, high-energy gospel music. Whether you are religious or not, "The Gospel" film is truly inspirational.

This was a worthy watch. There is so much wrong with the world today, it is so encouraging to see exemplar pictures that exhort us to pursue repentance, unity, forgiveness, reconciliation, restoration and worship of Christ.

The lord is good

I think this is a good church movie. It's very inspirational to watch. The lord Jesus is love and he's good all the time. He's also always right on time when something bad is about to happen to someone.

Boris is not good at lip syncing.

This movie actually turned out to be okay. The ending was not as predictable as I would have suspected, which was good. One point of criticism I have is that it was very obvious that Boris Kodjoe wasn't really singing. I understand that some actors can't sing, but it just looked awkward in this movie. They should have shot those scenes differently. Idris Elba was as sexy as he always is,
